Itinerary

Day 1 New Orleans, LA
Welcome to New Orleans. This vibrant city aka the Big Easy is the perfect destination to begin your Mississippi River voyage. Arrive the day before your cruise and American Cruise Lines will handle the rest. With thoughtfully planned excursions encompassing the biggest attractions and cultural highlights of New Orleans, and complimentary transportation to the ship, we make sure your tour is as worry-free as possible.

Day 2 Houmas House, LA
Become acquainted with the Houmas House and its history as well as its 38 acres of gardens, ponds and majestic live oak alley during this port stop. Make sure to explore the Southern splendor of "The Sugar Palace" through 16 rooms filled with period antiques and Louisiana artwork.

Houmas House Plantation Tour - Complimentary Excursion
The stately grandeur of Houmas House is complemented by its eclectic flair as our guide, Ms.Judy Davis who has a personality as magnificent as the mansion itself. As we arrive, we will be greeted on the riverbank and begin our private tour through the gardens to the 16 room plantation home. Once inside, the velvet ropes are removed and permission is granted to use the home’s furniture for a truly authentic experience. During the tour she brings stories of the home’s many inhabitants to life through the unique collection of Louisiana art. After the tour, you have time to wind through the gardens on your own. Later Ms. Davis joins us aboard for an entertaining evening of humor and songs of the South.

Day 3 Baton Rouge, LA
Baton Rouge features all the history and wonder you would expect in a state capital, but with an added down home flavor that makes it truly unique. Our private guides will take you on a tour of the cities' most famous attractions including the Old and New State Capitals and the interactive Louisiana State Museum.

Historic Baton Rouge Tour - Complimentary Excursion
The vibrant history of Louisiana is evident throughout the state’s capital. After breakfast, you will be greeted at the ship by Philippa Blair and her visitor center representatives as they welcome you to Baton Rouge with vibrant Mardi Gras beads. Your first stop is the Louisiana Old State Capitol where you will experience a one-of-a-kind interactive film, made with the help of Disney, which will bring you face-to-face with the ghost of the castle, Sarah Morgan. Afterward, Baton Rouge native, Ira Bobin, will serve as our tour guide and will bring you to the Louisiana State Museum, a completely interactive museum with three floors of displays detailing each different region of Louisiana.

Day 4 Oak Alley, LA
Once serving as an antebellum sugar cane homestead, Oak Alley Plantation is named after its most distinguishing feature, a row of 300 year old oak trees. This leafy canopy forms a quarter-mile path leading to the Mississippi River. Restored to its 19th Century grandeur, this classic Greek revival-style antebellum mansion is breathtaking.

Oak Alley Plantation - Complimentary Excursion
The famous ancient oaks bordering your path to the mansion are your first sight upon stepping ashore. The perfectly aligned 300 year old trees form a canopy which set a particularly grand entrance for our arrival. Southern belles enjoying the shade of the leafy canopy greet us on arrival and are our guides for the day. In small groups, we bring you through the antebellum plantation’s many stately rooms and show you why it has earned the name “Grande Dame of The Great River Road.” After the tour, we invite you to join us for a special gathering with mint juleps on the west lawn before a visit to their popular gift shop which is known for their world-famous pralines.

Day 5 New Orleans, LA
Welcome back to New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. Culture and arts abound around every corner of this unique city. The open air artist colony proudly displays local works on the iron fence in Jackson Square, while the city’s 45 museums carefully preserve its rich history. Stay an extra day or even a few nights to enjoy the famed French Quarter.

New Orleans City Tour
New Orleans is a city full of history, intrigue, and colorful characters. After a Cajun inspired breakfast, we’ll begin your journey through the “Big Easy” with a private tour guide, who will give you a local’s look into the area’s most famous attractions. We’ll explore the most popular areas including the French Quarter, the colorful garden district, and the famous stately mansions which still remain in period form. We’ll allow plenty of time for you to enjoy the local flavors, like chicory coffee, sweet beignets, and famous New Orleans jazz music.

Staterooms are comfortable, dining is excellent without exception. The tours are well planned and off-ship experiences are very well organized and of high historical importance. Best of all, these are small, intimate and friendly touring experiences.

We have cruised with American Cruise Lines 3 times now -- to Alaska, the Upper Mississippi River and the New England Islands - soon to take our fourth cruise to Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. Each cruise has been a delightful experience; comfortable cabins and lounges, good food and good programs. All personnel have been friendly and accommodating, whatever the needs were.

We had a great time. The staff was superb, the food excellent and we really enjoyed the speakers each day. We have told numerous couples of our experience and several have either looked into or actually booked a trip. We really like the all inclusive cost as opposed to a base cost and numerous extras.

We took our first American Cruise Lines cruise and tour to New England on the inaugural voyage (American Constellation) and had a wonderful time! We’ve been in the group tour business for 26 years and sailed on more cruises than we can count. Now we are retired and took this cruise (minus the 50 people who usually travel with us!). This cruise was incredibly well organized and the staff was above and beyond well trained in hospitality and customer care. The staterooms were very comfortable with every detail well considered. Being on the inaugural trip, we were bestowed with numerous high end gifts almost daily! I Facebooked photos of our daily itinerary and friends coaxed us into taking another cruise on the Queen of the West (Snake and Columbia River) departing next week (July 2018)! I can’t say enough good things about American Cruise Lines and we are looking forward to more journeys in the future!

This was my first cruise with ACL and I enjoyed it so much I booked a second. Fewer people on board which means you get a lot of personal attention from the crew. Food was excellent. There were a variety of excursions to choose from. I would have liked to have more information about them before the cruise. Very positive experience.

For someone who is in a wheelchair, this cruise line is not accessible, even though when you book a trip with them, they tell you they are to get your money. Very dissatisfied and would never recommend this to anyone I know.
