Itinerary

Day 1: Yangon

We meet at the hotel reception at 18.00 for a welcome meet and greet. This city is no longer the capital of Myanmar, but is still by far the largest and most important in the country. And as soon as you start exploring you'll see  why. There's a lot to do today, if you arrve early you can visit the impressive Sule Pagoda, the Karaweik Hall, royal floating barge or see a massive reclining Buddha. After this wonderful assault on the senses join the group for dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2: Yangon

There’s no chance  you’ve exhausted all the things this city has to offer.  After your included breakfast, head out for another Yangon adventure. If you haven’t already noticed there’s a massive golden pagoda that dominates this skyline (Shwedagon Pagoda). This is worth a few hours of your time, as is the park and famous Kandawgyi Lake. If you’re knackered from your explorations, take a little seat and check out some of the cultural performances, such as impressive acrobatic dances or the famous puppet shows.

Day 3: Yangon To Mandalay

In the morning we hop on a flight and head over to Mandalay. This place was also once a capital, and boasts incredible sights. At first it may seem like a concrete jungle, but as soon as you get below the surface and see some of the incredible relics you’ll not want to leave. Take a short boat trip up the Ayeryarwaddy river to Mingun and Get a photo beside the world’s largest Bronze bell (definitely a holiday bragging point). A favourite thing to do is to grab a bike and get to the outskirts. The people are friendly and you’ll see daily farming rituals in that have gone unchanged for centuries. Tomorrow we have another day here, so make your plans.

Day 4: Mandalay

After Breakfasts its time to put your exploring shoes on again. Today is a great day for a trip to the outskirts of Mandalay. Amarapuru is the hub for all sorts of structures and sights including the U Bein Bridge. It’s best to head there first thing in the morning to make the most this place. Once you’re finished here, head to the former royal island capital of Innwa (Ava) and find the remains of an illustrious royal palace.

Day 5: Mandalay To Bagan

We leave in the morning to Bagan with a few cultural stops along the way. We'll stop by an unspoilt  town famous as a tobacco trading centre and for its weaving shops.  Later on there are famous pagodas in Pakokku.  Visit local market and a cheroot factory, and continue to small Thanatkha market (traditional make up for Myanmar people).  Later in the afternoon, we continue to Bagan, hopefully arriving in time for the sunset.

Day 6: Bagan

This is the money shot. Get up at sunrise, board a hot air balloon and see the morning mist unveil a beautiful stupa littered landscape. There’s no place like it. The most dense and largest concentration of Buddhist temples in the world. Roam around today seeing some of the most impressive buddhest temples. You’ll ponder over what the people must have done other than just build temples all day! This is a place that will be etched into your memory forever.

Day 7: Bagan To Kalaw

Depart Bagan early morning for a full day's drive to Kalaw. This is undoubtedly one of the most scenic drives in Myanmar.  Not far from Bagan, we’ll stop off for at Mount Popa, it's an energetic climb, but the stunning view make it well worth it. From here onwards, the road to Kalaw is very bumpy but the scenery is wonderful - endless paddy fields and rolling hills.

Day 8: Kalaw

This is where real rural Myanmar Lies. We take a trek up through local villages and local markets, and witness some of the traditional tribal life. Experience beautiful fresh food, learn about the local spiritual belief, and see some splendid caves. We will spend the evening back in Kalaw.

Day 9: Kalaw To Inle Lake

No trip in Myanmar is complete without a visit to Inle Lake. This is one of the largest in the country and boasts some exceptionally exotic animals and plant life. Today you’ll have time to take a boat trip and see some of the local life at the floating villages and visit the huge Phaung Daw Oo pagoda complex. Return to your hotel in the evening where you can enjoy the cooler temperatures.

Day 10: Inle Lake

Another beautiful day on the lake! You’d be a fool not to take a boat trip today. Take a boat trip and get close to all the floating flowers, the fishermen and possibly catch the rotating market. One of the highlights of this trip is the ancient monastery on the river bank. Here you can see many ancient Buddha statues. This is the last day of the trip, so let’s all finish with a massive farewell feast!

Day 11: End Of Tour

Transfer and flight to Yangon. Tour ends

Horrible accommodation at Villa Fortunata Camp

We were booked for an Italian Adventure in Capri and were booked at the Camp Santa Fortunata in Sorrento which turned out to be a nightmare. We paid for an upgrade and the cabin we were placed in had no air conditioning, windows had no mosquito net, the bathroom had no toilet paper. I have contacted them for a refund, of at least the upgrade that we paid, and they have refused. We ended up having to book a hotel in Sorrento because we just couldn't sleep at the cabin they placed us in.

We hated the accommodation and their communication was poor and underserved to their clients.

We booked early and got a great deal at the TNT Travel Show in London. Most of our accommodation we booked at either hotels or AirBnB. Loved that fact that we could be flexible, go off route for a few days then jump back on again. The guides, drivers and booking staff have all been amazing. Did some of the optional extras and loved them all. I can't recommend Busabout enough. So much that we have done a tour with them and will be doing 3 more next year.

We did 2 festivals with Busabout and I'm not quite sure what we actually paid for...

Both tours were marketed as '4 day tours' (La Tomatina & Oktoberfest) - despite check in on 'Day 1' not starting until 2pm, and 'Day 4' ending at 8am - really a 3 night, 2 day tour. On the 2 days of the tour, the guides didn't do much guiding - they jumped on the bus, maybe said 3 sentences about the festival we were going to, told us what time to be back on the bus and that was it. Oktoberfest is actually free entrance, so literally all we paid for was accommodation and breakfast - not sure a 6 bed dorm is worth approx. $100aud each per night.
Breakfast on our first tour was simply toast with strawberry jam, the worst coffee in the world (or tea) and juice. Our second tour's breakfast was actually quite good which was surprising - although they took us to oktoberfest so early on the first day that breakfast actually wasn't open yet so we missed out. The optional activities sound exciting but you would be better off paying to do them with a different company who might actually tell you about the places you are going to.
All in all, we could have booked the same accommodation ourselves and booked day tours with companies who actually know what they are talking about for less money and a better experience overall.

My boyfriend and I travelled with Busabout for just over three months this summer (July - October) The company are brilliant & the hosts certainly know their stuff and are so helpful. The bus trip days were fantastic, it was our opportunity to unwind, watch a movie (that was always themed to the place you were heading) look at the gorgeous sights, meet new people. The buses are really comfy and clean too.
We did Sail Croatia in September with Busabout also (Our host was the amazing Kelly, who made the trip smooth sailing and so much fun) this was a 5* trip - one we both won't ever forget.
We are so excited that Busabout are offering a Eastern Europe loop next year and can't wait to do it next summer.
We bought the North, south, west loop with 30 stops - it was money worth spent.
If you have the time and flexibility then honestly you would be silly not to book on Busabout.
We absolutely loved the excursions that Busabout offer as a extra purchase on the trips, my favorites were the Spanish cooking class in Barcelona and the bike tour in Berlin.
We had absolutely no issues whatsoever and met some absolutely amazing fellow Aussies and kiwis along the way! Book for next summer, no regrets smile emoticon Well most likely be joining you on an adventure of a life time.

I have met so many wonderful people around the world and Australia and several of them have become my new friends now. Most Trip Guiders are great and helpful with tips. I like the fact that it is a combination of everything such as exploring towns and parties and relaxation and making new friends. It's highly recommend.
