  • Visit the wine center of Naoussa
  • Discover Vergina, archaeological sites
  • Explore island of Antipaxoi

With its astonishing wealth of natural attractions and a unique blend of histories and cultures, Northern Greece is arguably the country’s most fascinating region, yet one that remains relatively undiscovered. Its major center, Thessaloniki, offers exceptional gastronomic opportunities, nightlife and shopping, while the secondary towns and cities offer a blend of traditional architecture, historical sites and welcoming local characters. Indeed, getting off the beaten track in Greece’s Balkan north brings many unexpected rewards for the curious traveller.

Itinerary

Day 1

With your guide, walk with the locals through some of the oldest food markets in Europe and into the restaurant and café quarter, a spirited pedestrian zone. Enjoy the lively street music, more reminiscent of Romania and Bulgaria than Greece!

Day 2

Embark on a drive to the seaside town of Litochoro, beneath Mt. Olympus, where we’ll begin our hike. Today’s walk leads gently uphill along a mountain stream and under a shady canopy of pines, before breaking into the alpine region.

Day 3

Set out on a short drive to our next hike in another part of the park. Wander through some of the region's old villages and return to the hotel in the afternoon to relax at the spa, swim in the pool or the Aegean Sea and relax on the terraces with a cool drink before dinner.

Day 4

Visit the wine center of Naoussa, one of the most beautiful cities of Macedonia and the largest and most important city of the prefecture after Veria. Here, vine-growing and winemaking industries are flourishing and we’ll head straight out into the vineyards for a walk through the lush hills and several tastings.

Day 5

Drive to Vergina, one of Greece's most famous archaeological sites, and visit Persephone's Tomb among others. Continue westwards to Zagorohoria, a complex of beautiful stone villages set among forests and arid peaks, crystal clear rivers and alpine lakes.

Day 6

Meet our local friend Thucydides, a well-known wild food expert and healer, who will guide you on a walk to collect a variety of local mushrooms, plants and herbs. Later, walk along an ancient path and over incredibly beautiful stone bridges the region is famous for.

Day 7

From Zagorochoria drive to Igoumenitsa Port to take the boat to Paxoi, the smallest and most enchanting of the Ionian Islands. Take a short walk upon arrival followed by some time to relax and enjoy the surroundings of your lovely hotel, Torri e Merli.

Day 8

Start today’s walk from the hotel and wander past tiny villages, old churches, olive groves and breathtaking cliffs. Later, board a small boat and head to the island of Antipaxoi, famous for its renowned beaches and a perfect place to relax, swim or snorkel in the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea.

Day 9

This morning after a final breakfast your guide will arrange a water taxi to take you to the island of Corfu, where you can catch your flight to points beyond.
