Morocco is one of our oldest friends—the land, in fact, where the idea of a B&R expedition was born. We saw a foreign, exotic, stunning country beautifully suited to our penchant for pedalling and knew we absolutely had to introduce B&R travellers to it, young and old alike. On this Family trip, we give you the best of Morocco: magical Marrakech, Berber villages, stunning oases, camel and donkey rides, kid-friendly kite surfing, a ropes course, fabulous food, the High Atlas Mountains and an absolutely unforgettable stay in the magical city of Essaouira.

Day 1

Upon your arrival at the Marrakech Menara International airport, you will be met by your driver and taken to the grand Royal Palm hotel located in the Palmerie outside of Marrakech. Take the rest of the day to relax in the stunning grounds of the property.

Day 2

Head out towards the peaks of the High Atlas Mountains this morning. On the way, make a stop at “Terres d’Amanares,” an impressive complex of climbing structures in the trees, zip lines and lots of fun for the whole family! After lunch, drive from the desert plains of Marrakech to rich red soil and snowy mountains peaks.

Day 3

Meet your guide for an easy trek in the High Atlas Mountains this morning. Walk right from your hotel and head south through juniper and oak forests. Enjoy a picnic lunch in this glorious setting before heading back towards the Kasbah and enjoying the rest of your afternoon—perhaps it’s time to try your first hamman?

Day 4

Our destination today is the Agafay Desert—long called the “Sahara at the Door of Marrakech.” Along the road, camels await to take you for a ride to the oasis of La Pause. Jump in the refreshing waters before an afternoon at your leisure and an evening spent in true desert fashion—under the stars!

Day 5

Travel down the coast to the relaxed seaside town and millennia-old trading post of Essaouira. Stop for lunch at a French-owned vineyard, Val d’Argan and partake in a wine tasting before heading to our Riad, located within the walls of the ancient town and just steps from the sea.

Explore the lively port, fish markets and narrow streets lined with whitewashed buildings this morning. The Sqala of the Kasbah—the artillery platform on the ramparts—offers incomparable views of the ocean. Enjoy lunch at a waterside café and later explore local artisan studios.

Day 6

Arrive back to Marrakech and enjoy lunch at Café de la Poste before exploring the city. Visit the exquisite Bahia Palace and the Museum of Art of Marrakech before meeting with our friend Mohammed who will lead us through the amazing garden of Jacques Majorelle, once owned by Yves Saint-Laurent.

Day 7

Delve into the chaos of the city again with a crafts-focused tour through Djemaa el Fna square, a labyrinth of stalls and artisan workshops bringing together more than 2,600 craftsmen. In the late afternoon, shop for fresh ingredients for your cooking class, culminating in a fantastic homemade dinner.

Day 8

Enjoy breakfast and a morning to yourself as you await your ride to the Marrakech International airport. Bon voyage!

Royal Palm, Marrakech

Located just 12 km away from Marrakech’s ancient Medina, in the heart of a 231-hectares estate planted with olive trees. Boasting 4 restaurants led by multiple-starred Michelin chef Philippe Jourdin, a 2,000 sqm heated pool, Clarins Spa and a private golf course with incredible views of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains.

Kasbah Bab Ourika, Ourika Valley

With 360-degree panoramic views of the Ourika Valley and the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, the Bab Ourika receives warm sunlight all day, ending in spectacular sunsets. From its unique eyrie-like position, it offers a bird’s-eye view of the Atlas range, traditional Berber villages and the lush river valley below.

La Pause, Agafay Desert

La Pause is a green oasis, set beside a riverbed, in startling contrast to the arid land surrounding it. Conceived when Frenchman Frederic Alaime came to the area, Alaime hired workmen from the local village to build his dream rustic home.

Villa de L’O, Essaouira

Perfectly located just inside the city gates, the Villa de l’O is a 18thC palace which been tastefully restored a few years ago. The theme there is a mix in between a very original “Colonial style” and a certain idea of Moroccan luxury. The roof top terrace offers the most beautiful views on the bay and enjoying a breakfast is a pure delight!

La Sultana, Marrakech

This palace is formed by four riads with different character and charm. Craftsmen and local artists worked three years to give this property all the authenticity and luxury Morocco could offer. Located in the heart of the medina inside the wall near the Royal Palace in the Kasbah neighborhood, you can see and almost “visit” the Saadians Tombs from the rooftop!
