Started over 50 years ago, and still under construction, the memorial is the world’s largest sculpture in progress. Chief Standing Bear told the sculptor, Korczak Ziolkowski, “My fellow chiefs and I would like the white man to know the red man has great heroes, too.” The monument is a tribute to the Sioux Lakota Indian leader known as Crazy Horse. Free time to explore the historic district and stroll the Presidential Walk with life-size statues of American Presidents.

Enter the range lands and oil fields of Wyoming and head west across the high plains. Visit the old western cowboy town of Sheridan. Enjoy lunch. Next, enter Montana, “Big Sky Country.” Brief visit to Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in the Crow Nation. Here, in 1876, in the Valley of Little Big Horn, combined Sioux and Northern Cheyenne forces led by Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse overwhelmed General Custer and his cavalry. Continue to Billings, nestled between the Yellowstone River and the Rimrocks. Explorers Lewis & Clark camped near here in 1806.

Meals: Breakfast

Journey alongside the Yellowstone River in Montana as you follow the Lewis and Clark Trail to Livingston, Montana film location of "A River Runs Through It" and "The Horse Whisperer." Continue following the Yellowstone River south through Paradise Valley into Yellowstone National Park. Established in 1872, Yellowstone became the first national park in the world. Now over 90 countries have national parks. This 2,219,766 acre park contains almost 300 geysers and over 10,000 hot springs, fumaroles and mud pots. Look for moose, elk, bison, bears and wolves. You will visit the major attractions of both Yellowstone’s upper and lower loops on your leisurely visit to the park. Visit Mammoth Hot Springs, one of the best areas in the park for close-up viewing of elk. See the unique terraced pools at Mammoth. Enjoy a relaxing two night stay at your lodge, Old Faithful Inn. Old Faithful Geyser is within easy viewing and walking distance of Old Faithful Inn. Every 90 minutes, Old Faithful Geyser shoots thousands of gallons of steaming water into the air. Elevation at Old Faithful is approximately 7,300 feet.

Day 5: Yellowstone National Park

Meals: Breakfast

Continue your exploration of Yellowstone Park today on the lower loop. Visit Norris Geyser Basin, stop at Fishing Bridge Visitor Center alongside Yellowstone Lake and visit Yellowstone’s Grand Canyon, where you can marvel at the rushing waters of Yellowstone Falls, twice the height of Niagara Falls. Look for waterfowl, beaver, osprey and eagles. Then, to Jackson. Free time to explore the charming downtown. Stroll the art galleries and western shops. Mt Rushmore, Grand Tetons & Yellowstone

Write a Review

Excellent, with a few minor exceptions.

We just returned from a Caravan tour of Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, and Grand Tetons. Although there were just a couple of things we did not like, overall it was a very enjoyable seven days. The tour director was superb, very helpful, always available, friendly, and a pleasant person. The driver was very good at his job, extremely experienced and knowledgable. The trip was well planned, most of the hotels were above average in quality, the bus was comfortable, the included meals were good.

Financially, it was a good buy overall. However, it did cost somewhat more than expected based on the advertisements. Although Caravan advertises that "most or all" meals are included, in this particular tour only nine of the twenty meals were included, and of these, only one of the seven dinners. In addition, there was heavy emphasis on gratuities, with too-frequent reminders. Suggested amounts were given, and even the minimum suggested amounts seemed rather high to me. We were given to feel obligated, rather than left to decide on our own based on the quality of the service. Caravan stated that the only gratuities not included in the price were those to the tour director and driver. However, gratuities to hotel maids and local guides, and shuttle drivers were also not included, and suggested amounts for these were given by the tour director. Overall we spent about $150 on gratuities, even though staying in the lower range of the suggested amounts.

But we are glad we went, and will consider Caravan again when planning another trip.

Company Reviews

Go on this trip, you won't be dissapointed!

It was a terrific experience. I would do it again in a heart beat. Our tour guide, Rolando Meneses, was the best. We couldn't have asked for a better tour guide. I went with my wife, her brother and my mother-in-law. Ages, 60 to 85. We had no problem getting around. Our ages and various problems like arthritis were not a problem. Every place we stayed was very good. Some were exceptionally good.

All meals and tips were paid for by the tour company. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. All included. I've been on other tours with a different company but Caravan was definitely better in every way.

Wonderful tour to Costa Rica

I wanted to give some feedback on our Caravan tour to Costa Rica. We went this route for the following reasons:

1. Price – most other companies quoted a much higher price for a similar itinerary and accommodations. Caravan was priced extremely reasonably.

2. Ease – no worries about how to get from A to B. I wouldn’t want to drive on some of those mountain roads and I felt safer in a larger vehicle. Bus was secure so we could bring whatever we needed for the day and just take with us what was necessary for each outing and leave everything else safely on the bus. Check-in, baggage, and entrance fees – everything was taken care of for us. We didn’t have to think twice about what we were eating or drinking – important when traveling with kids! The itinerary included rest stops at least every two hours so we knew would have food or a bathroom before it became an emergency.

3. Tour guides – our Caravan tour director was a nature specialist (which was especially wonderful) and we had excellent local guides in each location.

4. Company – I really enjoyed traveling with a group of people all of whom loved to travel. Hubby and I don’t see eye to eye on how to vacation so this took a lot of the stress away. My mother and brother also joined us so this way I didn’t have to worry that each person in our party wanted to do something else – it was already planned for us!

1. Loss of flexibility – can’t stop anywhere for a picture or can’t linger – always on a schedule.

2. Up early every morning to cover the distances and beat the crowds (though the latter was a plus in my book)

3. Exposed to a lesser variety of local food though Caravan doesn’t do a bad job on the whole.

Fun trip with Caravan Tours!

This tour was a 10-day trip covering San Jose to Tortuguero to Arenal to Manuel Antonio and many places in between (It has been a while since I was on the tour, so the exact route may have changed by now). Although the bus fits 44 people we had just 34 due to last minute cancellations (another plus is an inexpensive trip insurance of $100 which allows you to cancel with almost no penalty). Age ranged from 6 (my younger son) to a very fit 88-year-old woman. Most people were over 50 and well traveled. This made for a very laid-back group with an open mind. Food was great for lunches when were served ‘tipico’ Costa Rican food and just okay for dinners when it was mostly Americanized food. Fruit was always available – just wish we had mangoes and papaya more often. Desserts are not a fine culinary skill here but that was okay with me. Lots of variety for vegetarians, mostly chicken and fish served (almost always a choice in meats) and beef was rarely served. Loved the variety and freshness of all the fruit juices served at meals – mango, soursop, tamarind, strawberry, blackberry, guava, fruit punch. My family and I really enjoyed this trip with Caravan Tours, and we would definitely look at taking another trip with them in the future.

Worth the cost

I first did a bit of research on Costa Rica before looking at any tour companies and made a list of the places I really wanted to visit. Initially, I was looking at smaller tour companies that would have more of a personalized tour for our family but the prices were quite high. I came across the Caravan tour package and it included the places on my list and it was at a very good price. I must also add here that our family is not highly adventurous in the sense that we were not looking for activities like zip-lines, rafting or off the beaten path wilderness experiences. You really make the most of your time on an organized tour but you do lose a bit in terms in getting closer in with the local culture. We like to travel a lot so in the end the deciding factor was price and the fact that I had not found any negative reviews for this company.

Caravan gets my stamp of approval!

The Caravan team was super organized in planning my trip- a 10 day tour of Costa Rica. I traveled during the month December and had a most memorable time in this natural paradise. They were a pleasure to plan with and were A-mazing from start to finish. They offer a variety of all inclusive tours in natural paradises throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, and more. Prices are affordable and you can opt to price your trip according to the "Value" dates price table and occupancy rate. Fantastic accommodations, dining, and service. Great for friends, families, coworkers, and colleagues. If you're single and want to travel, you'll enjoy the privacy and alone time you crave while getting a healthy dose of interaction... you'll be in good company on this trip. Caravan gets my stamp of approval- highly recommended.
