Twice each day, one hundred billion tons of water flow into the Bay of Fundy, overpowering the Bay's rivers and reversing their direction. Next, traverse the 8 mile Confederation Bridge to the picturesque province of Prince Edward Island. Pass over gently rolling farmlands en route to Prince Edward Island National Seashore. Enjoy vistas of red sand beaches and bluffs. Watch for red fox and great blue heron. Enjoy a relaxing two night stay at your country inn. Dinner tonight.

Day 3: Prince Edward Island

Meals: Breakfast

This morning enter the magical and enchanting world of Anne of Green Gables. Visit the Anne of Green Gables House in Cavendish. This afternoon, join Caravan for a brief sightseeing tour of Charlottetown, followed by leisure time in the downtown.

Day 4: Cape Breton Island

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Enjoy a morning ferry ride from Prince Edward Island back to Nova Scotia. Continue to Cape Breton Island and the Cabot Trail, one of the most beautiful drives in the world. See inspiring mountain and coastal scenery en route to Cheticamp. Enjoy a relaxing two night stay at this French-speaking Acadian fishing village, in the heart of the Cabot Trail. The fun-loving Cape Bretoners are renowned for celebrating with traditional Celtic and Acadian music and dance. Dinner.

A grand adventure awaits you today on the Cabot Trail. Drive through forests, mountains and valleys in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Breathtaking ocean scenery unfolds as you follow the trail from Pleasant Bay to Cape Smokey. See rugged cliffs and wonderful ocean views. Then to Baddeck. Visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, dedicated to the inventor of the telephone. Bell once said, "I have traveled around the globe... and for simple beauty, Cape Breton Island outrivals them all." Bell made his home here. Stay a relaxing two nights in the resort town of Baddeck on Cape Breton Island.

Day 7: Fortress of Louisbourg

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Morning visit to the crown jewel of the Canadian Park Service, the Fortress of Louisbourg. Stroll through this 18th century fortress. During July and August, actors bring to life colorful characters and events from Louisbourg's past (limited services in October). Return to charming Baddeck. Enjoy a scenic cruise on Bras d' Or Lakes. Look for bald eagles. Dinner tonight.

Day 8: Peggy's Cove, Halifax

Meals: Breakfast

You drive south this morning across the Canso Causeway and return to mainland Nova Scotia. Visit with the First Nation people at the Mi’kmaq heritage center. Fall foliage arrives later in Nova Scotia than in New England. The best departure dates for viewing fall colors are usually all of the October dates. Have your camera ready on the Cabot Trail, where fall foliage can be spectacular.

The trip we took with Caravan tours was very nice. The tour guide was very informative and pleasant. All the accommodations were satisfactory to great, however, I did call ahead to hotels and ask for hotel upgrades at each stop. Doing that was very worthwhile in Prince Edwards Island and Breton. We were fortunate that we got very lucky with weather. We stayed an extra day on our own in Lunenburg. I think restful time on the Southeast coast was a nice capper to another well done Caravan tour.

It was a terrific experience. I would do it again in a heart beat. Our tour guide, Rolando Meneses, was the best. We couldn't have asked for a better tour guide. I went with my wife, her brother and my mother-in-law. Ages, 60 to 85. We had no problem getting around. Our ages and various problems like arthritis were not a problem. Every place we stayed was very good. Some were exceptionally good.

All meals and tips were paid for by the tour company. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. All included. I've been on other tours with a different company but Caravan was definitely better in every way.

Wonderful tour to Costa Rica

I wanted to give some feedback on our Caravan tour to Costa Rica. We went this route for the following reasons:

1. Price – most other companies quoted a much higher price for a similar itinerary and accommodations. Caravan was priced extremely reasonably.

2. Ease – no worries about how to get from A to B. I wouldn’t want to drive on some of those mountain roads and I felt safer in a larger vehicle. Bus was secure so we could bring whatever we needed for the day and just take with us what was necessary for each outing and leave everything else safely on the bus. Check-in, baggage, and entrance fees – everything was taken care of for us. We didn’t have to think twice about what we were eating or drinking – important when traveling with kids! The itinerary included rest stops at least every two hours so we knew would have food or a bathroom before it became an emergency.

3. Tour guides – our Caravan tour director was a nature specialist (which was especially wonderful) and we had excellent local guides in each location.

4. Company – I really enjoyed traveling with a group of people all of whom loved to travel. Hubby and I don’t see eye to eye on how to vacation so this took a lot of the stress away. My mother and brother also joined us so this way I didn’t have to worry that each person in our party wanted to do something else – it was already planned for us!

Drawbacks:

1. Loss of flexibility – can’t stop anywhere for a picture or can’t linger – always on a schedule.

2. Up early every morning to cover the distances and beat the crowds (though the latter was a plus in my book)

3. Exposed to a lesser variety of local food though Caravan doesn’t do a bad job on the whole.

This tour was a 10-day trip covering San Jose to Tortuguero to Arenal to Manuel Antonio and many places in between (It has been a while since I was on the tour, so the exact route may have changed by now). Although the bus fits 44 people we had just 34 due to last minute cancellations (another plus is an inexpensive trip insurance of $100 which allows you to cancel with almost no penalty). Age ranged from 6 (my younger son) to a very fit 88-year-old woman. Most people were over 50 and well traveled. This made for a very laid-back group with an open mind. Food was great for lunches when were served ‘tipico’ Costa Rican food and just okay for dinners when it was mostly Americanized food. Fruit was always available – just wish we had mangoes and papaya more often. Desserts are not a fine culinary skill here but that was okay with me. Lots of variety for vegetarians, mostly chicken and fish served (almost always a choice in meats) and beef was rarely served. Loved the variety and freshness of all the fruit juices served at meals – mango, soursop, tamarind, strawberry, blackberry, guava, fruit punch. My family and I really enjoyed this trip with Caravan Tours, and we would definitely look at taking another trip with them in the future.

I first did a bit of research on Costa Rica before looking at any tour companies and made a list of the places I really wanted to visit. Initially, I was looking at smaller tour companies that would have more of a personalized tour for our family but the prices were quite high. I came across the Caravan tour package and it included the places on my list and it was at a very good price. I must also add here that our family is not highly adventurous in the sense that we were not looking for activities like zip-lines, rafting or off the beaten path wilderness experiences. You really make the most of your time on an organized tour but you do lose a bit in terms in getting closer in with the local culture. We like to travel a lot so in the end the deciding factor was price and the fact that I had not found any negative reviews for this company.

The Caravan team was super organized in planning my trip- a 10 day tour of Costa Rica. I traveled during the month December and had a most memorable time in this natural paradise. They were a pleasure to plan with and were A-mazing from start to finish. They offer a variety of all inclusive tours in natural paradises throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, and more. Prices are affordable and you can opt to price your trip according to the "Value" dates price table and occupancy rate. Fantastic accommodations, dining, and service. Great for friends, families, coworkers, and colleagues. If you're single and want to travel, you'll enjoy the privacy and alone time you crave while getting a healthy dose of interaction... you'll be in good company on this trip. Caravan gets my stamp of approval- highly recommended.
