This is exactly what you are going to do this evening – live like a local Yangonian. Highlights will be your visit to the illuminated Shwedagon Pagoda, where you can experience a magical and mystical moment at a time when it’s not very busy. After the pagoda visit, stop to try out some local snacks, local draft beer, or some fresh lime juice on your way back to your hotel. Day 2:  Yongon and Spiritual Shwedagon Pagoda

Accommodation: Governor’s Residence, Deluxe Garden Room

This morning, discover what is behind the golden façade of the Shwedagon Pagoda. During this interactive, half-day tour, you head through the back door and learn about the history of the pagoda and the daily life of locals, and gain deeper insight in the Buddhist religion and how the spiritual belief is blended with nats – the Myanmar spirits. It all starts at the bottom of the hill where by you pass by interesting workshops, markets, and monasteries. Insight into these integral and daily activities will enhance your understanding of the country and add to your journey. Enjoy a traditional Burmese breakfast and the experience of making offerings to monks and the pagoda. In the afternoon, see a local fortune teller and take time for a nice Burmese lunch.

In the afternoon, take part in a great program by donating your time to an important cause.  Visit a local orphanage in Yangon where over 100 kids live, play, and study at a simple compound. The orphanage has just enough money to feed everybody a simple meal with steamed rice, some fish paste, and maybe a small spoon of vegetables each day. However, today, you are going to make sure they get a well-rounded, balanced meal! Together with a translator, visit a colorful, local vegetable market to buy fruits or vegetables, then travel back to the orphanage to start cooking! Help to clean and prepare fruits or vegetables for the kids and serve a delicious, wholesome lunch.
