Overview

Highlights

  • Enjoy the wonderful view of the Kenyan interior.
  • Views overlooking Mawenzi, Kibo and the wide plain of the Masai steppe.
  • See the main summit Kibo with Mawenzi.

Short Description

The Marangu Route has been referred to as the ‘Coca Cola’ route and this has led potential climbers to think that it is an easy route to the summit. This is far from the truth to be honest! The fact that it requires a minimum of 7 days to complete it does not mean that it is easier than any other route. The only reason that people say it is easier is because it is the only route up Kilimanjaro where you sleep in huts as opposed to tents.

After back from Kilimanjaro you will overnight in hotel at Arusha and after breakfast and transfer to Tarangire National Park for a full day safari with picnic lunch. Tarangire National Park is famous for is large herds up to 300 hundred elephants and majestic Baobab trees. The rolling hills will provide you with magnificent views over the landscape.

Private tours give you the undivided attention of a guide, and often involve special access to sites and unique experiences not available to larger groups. This is a great option for families, couples, and small friend groups. Expect to pay a bit more for the extra service.

Passing the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m, the climb slowly but surely goes upwards. At sunrise, you will reach Gillman’s Point (5681m) – the crater rim of Kilimanjaro – where the sun will slowly start to warm up the land. You will have soon forgotten the cold of the night and after a further hike of 1 - 2 hours, you will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m. On your return to Kibo Hut, a warm meal awaits you followed by a 1 - 2 hour break before proceeding back down to Horombo Hut.

After saying goodbye to your mountain guides, a short transfer follows to take you back to your hotel in Arusha. Our group of seven’s safari experience was nothing short of spectacular!
We cover Arusha, Tarangire and Serengeti National Parks as well as Ngorongoro Conservation Area over a 7 day period. A lot of ground to cover, but what an experience.
Not only did we see the Big 5 but we saw them in spades. We had fantastic looks at some of the large predators like lions, leopards and cheetahs; large grazing herds of wildebeests, gazelles, buffalo and antelopes as well as wallowing hippopotamus, lumbering elephants and stately giraffes.

Our guide worked hard and seemed to have a 6th sense in terms of locating wildlife. Not only were we very close to large herbivores, carnivores and birds but we viewed them in a setting where they seemed quite oblivious to us. They continued to hunt, graze, scavenge, dabble, court and even copulate in a stunning landscape. It was straight out of a National Geographic documentary.
Nothing seemed to escape our guide’s keen eye. He was an avid bird watcher and not only able to spot and identify the many spectacular bird species we saw, but speak to their natural history and behaviour as well. Same went for the mammals large and small, reptiles like Nile crocodiles, lizards and turtles/tortoises. His passion for wildlife was undeniable.

Our accommodation and meals during the safari/game drives were great. Three nights in a ‘bush camp’ in a spacious tent with 2 queen sized beds and a three piece bathroom was hardly roughing it. It was quite luxurious actually. Staff were welcoming, friendly and accommodating. A hot towel and cold drink on our arrival offered another touch of class.

Both our guide, Raymond and his brother Lawrence were shining examples of competent, caring and professional entrepreneurs with a small fledgling company. I highly recommend you consider them if you are looking for a safari trip of a lifetime. It was an epic trip for me that I will never forget!

Expect in Africa Safari also organized a 6 day climb up Mount Kilimanjaro. I’m happy to report all 7 ladies in the group made the summit. Our success had everything to do with the care, support and professionalism of our guides, cook and porters. We climb the Marangu route and stayed in rustic “chalets”. Food was hot and plentiful and our cook dropped by every evening during dinner. Our guides actually sang songs to keep us motivated on the final climb to the summit. It was a total grind but we made it. A huge “Thank you” to our devoted entourage of 21 as well as Expect in Africa Safari organizers. Another trip of a lifetime that I can boost about for decades.

I used them for Kilimanjaro and had a fantastic experience. The guides Ellie, Richard and Paul were very professional and fun to be around. They pushed us when we needed pushing and I don't think we would have summited without them! Ellie has been a guide for over 20 years and was summited literally hundreds of times. I would highly recommend them for anyone wanting to summit the mountain. And use the acclimattion day :)

Nothing but great things to say about this company and our time in Tanzania on safari. They did a great job arranging our accommodations and we liked every place that we stayed. The camping in the Serengeti was beautiful and the lodging at each stop was very nice. Our guide, Raymond, was also phenomenal. His knowledge and expertise really was a game changer in our experience. Not only did we see every animal
Imaginable, but he knew so much about the ecosystem, animals, plant life, etc. I would definitely recommend this company to friends, families, or couples.

The safari guide was very knowledgeable about culture, as well as African flora and fauna. It was never a problem to adopt what the team desired to do into the safari. The guide was enthusiastic to share African culture and wildlife information and was as excited for us to see things, as we were to see it. The guide respected the wildlife and was always looking for our safety

Some good things which made the difference:

Raymond, the best guide ever: expert and very sensitive;
We were the only one who have a Masai's blanket to have lunch..simple perfect!
We stayed in a gorgeous tent in the middle of Serengeti!

Max Age: 80

Additional Information:

The following is very important to consider

You will need visas for entry to Tanzania. Though you can get these in Africa, your travel will go smoother if you get them in advance through the respective embassies.

Make a photocopy or list of the following items: Passports (including the page with the visa stamped in them and the pages with photos and data), plane tickets, yellow booklet showing your yellow fever vaccination, list of all medications you might require, listing of all travelers' cheque numbers and money if possible, list of serial numbers for cameras, etc. Keep this list someplace apart from where you keep these other items

Keep track of your passport above all. Loss of a passport can destroy your trip and cost considerable money during the time required to replace it. On your international flight, pack as if the airline might misplace your bags. Keep things you will need right away in your carry-on. It seldom happens, and almost always the bags arrive a couple of days later, but this way, if the bags do not arrive with you, you will be able to continue on your safari while the airline finds them
If bags get misplaced at the airport

We hope you don't lose your bags, but this happens sometimes. If your bags do not show up, do the following:

Report the problem to your air carrier inside the airport at the Baggage Claim before passing the CUSTOM and fill out the required paperwork. Request compensation for your inconvenience (often $50.00 for emergency purchases and a bag with simple toiletries and a tee shirt). Ask them when they expect the bag will arrive and tell them where you will be based on your itinerary. Leave the keys with the airline so they can clear the bags through customs. Ask the airline to go with you to advise Customs Officer that bags were lost so there will be no problems further in getting your bags cleared when they arrive. Inform our staff so we can work with the airline to get your bags to you at the earliest convenience.
