Itinerary

Day 1 - Bangkok

The largest city and capital of Thailand, Bangkok is known not only as the gateway to Thailand but to all of Southeast Asia. At around 10 million people, Bangkok is a hive of activity and is full of people from all over the world. Its eclectic mix of residents and travellers creates one of the most international and diverse major cities in the world. Despite its diversity in people, Bangkok is very traditionally Thai - some of the most elaborate and extraordinary Buddhist temples lie within Bangkok and the city is filled with beautiful dedications to the King and the Royal Family, including The Grand Palace. There is an infinity of places to explore in this city and things to do, but most people will spend their time doing what Bangkok has become infamous with travellers for: shopping, eating amazing food and epic partying!

Day 2 - Chiang Mai

Nestled along the lush northern foothills of Thailand, brightened by hundreds of sacred temples and made festive by the fun-loving population, Chiang Mai embodies the heart and soul of Thai culture: holy and happy. Built around the old moated town centre, still outlined by a massive and crumbling stone wall, Chiang Mai is a progressive city that holds on tightly to its rich history. The peaceful nature of the city carries right into the night-time as Chiang Mai boasts one of the most devout and lively reggae music scenes outside of Jamaica. And with an endless amount of bucket-list activities within the city, from bungee jumping to climbing up to Doi Suthep, the lure of Chiang Mai and its world-famous food will make it very difficult for you to leave!

Day 3 - Jungle Trek

Hiking through the lush, green jungles of northern Thailand is no joking matter, but it’s an experience not to be missed. We get to spend 3 days trekking in the Thai backcountry, experiencing everything from muddy paths to thick vegetation and incredibly beautiful waterfalls. At night we’ll camp out in tribal villages where the whole group will sleep in a massive hut and eat and drink with the locals. From ethically interacting with elephants to bamboo rafting down a river and sipping on Thai ‘happy water,’ these three days will be some of the toughest, most adventurous and rewarding of your LTC.

Day 4 - Mae Ngat Dam

This hydroelectric dam has created a huge reservoir that is essentially a gorgeous lake surrounded by lush jungle hills…and it’s only 30 mins from Chiang Mai. There we will be retreating to our own secluded lake house to wash off the muck after our multi day jungle trek and relax in this off-the-beaten-path paradise. This will be an experience like no other. Spend your days tanning on the deck, swimming in the cool waters, going for a paddle in a kayak to a super cool local temple, or drinking beers with your TFFs as you watch the sun set. All your meals will be included, so after your trek through the jungles of Northern Thailand, all you will need to worry about is whether you put on enough sunscreen or should really have another beer (the answer to this one is always yes). Your days at the lake house will be some of the best of your life.

Day 5 - Luang Prabang

High up in the mountains of Laos, at the confluence of the Nam Khan and Mekong River rises the majestic city of Luang Prabang. Its golden temples, colourful markets and French architecture make this place a constant source of visual wonder. Thousands of saffron robed Buddhist monks reside in Luang Prabang and can be seen every morning walking the streets in lines receiving alms from the local people. The entire city is a Unesco World Heritage site and it is easy to see why, as it as much of a must-see place as anywhere on Earth.

Day 6 - Vang Vieng

Deep in the jungle of Laos, surrounded by soaring limestone cliffs and rice terraces lies the gorgeous town of Vang Vieng. At times existing dubiously outside the strict laws of Laos, Vang Vieng has been known to throw some of the craziest parties in the world. Although the famous tubing experience down the Nam Song river has been more or less closed off with the government demolition of nearly every riverside bar due to a large disregard in safety standards, taking a trip down the picturesque river by tube or kayak is still a great experience and provides stunning views of the surreal landscapes surrounding Vang Vieng. Rock climbing the cliffs, exploring the caves, viewing the temples, hiking through the hills and enjoying this classic backpacker town are all part of the experience of Vang Vieng. And although the party level may never be the same as years past, not being cross-eyed drunk the entire time you're in Vang Vieng provides more opportunity to enjoy this incredibly beautiful place and leave town with more than just a hangover!

Day 7 - Nong Khai

Nong Khai is a very relaxed town where you can choose your own adventure. With a ton of fun activities to try out, and a great chill vibe, you can spend your days here relaxing and resting, or hitting up historical sites and exploring the town. It is a truly beautiful stop on our trip. You’ll hardly be able to look away, or put your camera down. Our accommodations are right along the great Mekong River, making it easy to hit the promenade along the lake, check out the nearby market, and try some of the restaurants close by. There are some very fun and uniquely Thai activities available here that will make your trip even more memorable. Settle into Nong Khai and take in the beauty of Thailand!

Day 8 - Siem Reap

Not far from the fun-filled and raucous Pub Street in the charming Cambodian town of Siem Reap lies arguably the most fascinating ancient structure in the world, the massive temple city of Angkor Wat. Besides the largest and one of the most intricate religious temples in the world, Angkor Wat holds a world of wonder inside its ancient walls from towering trees wrapping their roots around Buddhist statues to mysterious Hindu and Buddhist temples stretching for hundreds of meters. Siem Reap is the jumping point to explore Angkor Wat during the day, but at night your time is spent enjoying the cheap pubs, friendly locals, tasty food and street-lined boulevards of Siem Reap.

Day 9 - Phnom Penh

Situated along the banks of the massive Mekong River, Phnom Penh is an old Asian city that despite being through large-scale wars and revolutions still maintains a charm that is deserved of the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The spectacular spires of the Royal Palace reach into the sky and the crowded streets are coloured by the saffron robes of Buddhist monks and always, the river flows through the city. However, poverty is prevalent and evidence of the brutal civil wars can be seen in the people and places throughout the city, but that will not and should not ever be forgotten. Learning about the terrible atrocities committed during the wars in Cambodia are an important part of visiting Phnom Penh and going to the very informative museums and visiting the killing fields are sad experiences, but they will give you a deeper understanding of the history of the country and its people.

Day 10 - Sihanoukville

Sihanoukville puts on display the wonderful and little-visited Cambodian coastline, which is covered in white-sand beaches and undeveloped tropical islands. And Sihanoukville is arguably the cream of the crop when it comes to Cambodia’s beaches, its as laid-back as a place can be. The people that come to visit are often looking for nothing more than a perfect place to relax, and there aren’t many places more peaceful than Sihanoukville.

Day 11 - Koh Ta Kiev

Existing within squinting distance of Sihanoukville, Koh Ta Kiev glimmers on the horizon as a mirage of paradise that appears to have separated itself from the mainland and drifted out to sea. Arriving by boat, the surreal elements of this island come into focus and you have now become privy to one of Cambodia’s best-kept secrets. The lush nature beckons with life, the calm turquoise water pats at the shore invitingly, and seemingly everywhere you look is the most idyllic spot to set-up shop and enjoy the serenity of beach life. Virtually pulled right from the best parts of our imagination, Koh Ta Kiev will give you the chance to soak up a picture-perfect tropical paradise in its most pristine form. Take yourself away from the grid, away from the mainland, away from all the troubles of the world, and into one of Southeast Asia’s greatest treasures!

Day 12 - Koh Chang

Koh Chang (which means Elephant Island) is covered in gorgeous cliffs and peaks that rise steeply from the sea and are covered in lush jungle vegetation. The peaks drop down in places to give-way to small fields of sand that create picturesque beaches, which may not be as nice as those found on some of the other islands in Thailand but are still remarkable places to relax for the day and enjoy the incredible natural beauty surrounding Koh Chang. A raucous but still laid-back party scene is widespread through Koh Chang, as like many places in Thailand the number one priority here is fun and come night time, there is just as much fun to be had as during the day!

I just did 40 days in Central America with Josh, Kyle, and Karina. It was an amazing experience. The places you get to see, the things you get to experience, and the knowledge of the guides ensures that you will have an amazing time even if Mother Nature is not on your side. Free and Easy streamlined everything so that all I had to do was show up. These trips would be perfect for someone looking to get into travel, but I also think that anyone who - like myself - has already travelled some can still have a really awesome time. There's enough freedom in the trips to do whatever you want, but you have a built in family behind you if needed. I made some lifelong friends on my 40 days and it is all thanks to Free and Easy.

Went on my first Free and Easy trip in November to Nicaragua and it was such an amazing trip! Having never gone a backpacking trip before I had my worries but my leaders(Josh, Karina and Kyle) were amazing and did everything in their power to make sure everyone on our trip was always having a good time. I can honestly say there wasn't a single bad moment on the trip with the highlight having been able to experience not one but two Sunday Fundays in San Juan!! The memories I made with my fnez family will last a lifetime and I cannot wait to go on another trip with fnez!!

Went to Costa Rica and Panama. This was my first Free and Easy trip, and I had no idea what to expect. I was a little nervous because I was traveling solo, but I honestly could not be happier with my decision! Everyday was a new experience, and the trip's itinerary was planned for the perfect mixture of adventure and relaxation. Kyle, Josh and Karina are awesome guides!! As much fun as they had with us, they were up every morning and enthusiastically ready for the day's activities. They were extremely helpful for those needing any special accommodations, recommendations, etc. I just got home and already miss my FnEZ family. I will definitely be booking another trip with FnEZ in the future.

My first adventure with Free and Easy was the 12 day yoga trip to Nicaragua with my daughter. I was a bit apprehensive traveling with a much younger crowd however I had nothing to fret about. This was an absolutely amazing 12 days of relaxing, yoga, healthy eating and enjoying the sunshine on our own private beach. This may very well become a yearly recharging trip for me - with or without my daughter. I would highly recommend this trip for anyone who wants to escape from the crazy world we live in. Thanks Free and Easy for a fabulous time!!
