  • Spot wildlife while cruising the canals of tortuguero
  • Savour a local lunch at a g adventures-supported coffee co-op
  • Enjoy spectacular volcano views while soaking in hot springs
  • Hike the trails of reserves and national parks
  • Learn to make tortillas with a local family
  • Relax on the scenic pacific coast

Costa Rica has as many microclimates as it does opportunities for active adventures, and this 2-week journey will bring you the best of both. There's a visit to a cloud forest, but for a bigger jolt, opt to rappel down waterfalls or fly across ziplines above the treetops. For the caffeine connoisseur, we visit a coffee co-op and learn how it gets from bean to your cup. For a different pace, float through the canals of the Tortuguero National Park in search of wildlife. From the Caribbean beaches to the Pacific, this stunning tour embodies some of the best that Costa Rica has to offer.

As a first time G Adventure client. I thought the tour itself is very well planned. It gave an interesting overview of many areas- flora and fauna and physical features of the various areas of Costa Rica. Our tour guide provided a balance of directed activity and great suggestions for our "free" individual choice times for excursions. I felt as though I had a brush with the real culture of this country. A very positive experience.

I enjoyed the itinerary which gave a good overview of the great variety of scenery, flora and fauna according to altitude and coastal climate. Travelling overland in a minibus allowed us to appreciate even more the diversity as we went from one region to another. The contact with the local population is limited, but the evening spent at Dona Mara near La Fortuna gave us a chance of an insight into a Costa Rican family life. Equally the coffee plantation and the spice plantation were informative about production and rural life. We saw a lot without being rushed.

If you arrive early enough, you'll have time to head into the city to visit a museum, shop or visit the main plaza in the city centre. The plaza is a good place to people-watch. Solo Notes

We believe single travellers should not have to pay more to travel so our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travellers joining group trips are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip. Some of our Independent trips are designed differently and single travellers on these itineraries must pay the single trip price.
Comfort hotels (11 nts), rustic jungle lodge (2 nts).
In Tortuguerro National Park we stay in a remote jungle Lodge that is only reachable by boat. Rooms are simple, with ensuite, electricity and hotel water, but due to this remote location, there can sometimes be interruptions to services. There is no A/C but each room has large-screened windows and ceiling fans to catch the breeze off the Caribbean Sea. While at the lodge during your downtime, you can enjoy the pool, bar or beach. The stunning location, wildlife and natural beauty of the location more than makes up for a few minor inconveniences. Please also note that La Fortuna and Monteverde have fairly small centres with shopping and some great restaurants, but most of the upgraded accommodations in these areas are located outside of the main town/city centre - to take better advantage of the natural beauty of these areas. Taxis are readily available in both areas.

Eating is a big part of traveling. Travelling with G Adventures you experience the vast array of wonderful food that is available out in the world. Generally meals are not included in the trip price when there is a choice of eating options, to give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat. It also gives you more budgeting flexibility, though generally food is cheap. Our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There is no obligation to do this though. Your CEO will be able to suggest favourite restaurants during your trip. The above information applies to G Adventures group trips.
