Itinerary

Day 1 Ushuaia

Arrive in Ushuaia at any time. Arrival transfer included. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the world's most southerly city. Additional Notes: There will be a welcome desk in the lobby of the start hotel that will provide more specific information on the G Expedition and your upcoming adventure. Transport: Included arrival transfer. Private Vehicle

Day 2 Ushuaia/Beagle Channel (1B, 1D)

Enjoy a free morning in Ushuaia. Do any last minute shopping, explore the town, or visit the surrounding countryside. Embarkation on the G Expedition begins in the afternoon at the port in Ushuaia. Enjoy the evening sailing through the Beagle Channel. Additional Notes: Expedition travel can be full of surprises! While it is our intention of adhere to the itinerary described below, there is a certain amount of flexibility built into the itinerary and on occasion it may be necessary, or desirable to make alterations. On the first day onboard, the Expedition Leader will give an expedition overview outlining what the specific plans are for the trip. Opt to pre-book the "Tierra del Fuego National Park Visit" activity on the checkout page ahead of time to include this optional on your tour. Included Activities: Embarkation of the G Expedition Transport: G Expedition

Day 3 Beagle Channel/Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) (1B, 1L, 1D)

On the passage east visit the common areas that include the lounge, dining hall, library and lecture hall and meet the guides, ship’s crew and lecturers. Begin the lectures and information sessions to learn the extraordinary human and natural history of the Antarctic region. Included Activities: Daily lectures and educational program Transport: G Expedition

Days 4-5 Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas)/Southern Ocean

Catch our first glimpses of penguins, including the Magellanic, rockhopper, gentoo, and king penguins. With a little luck, spot elephant seals, sea lions, king cormorants, black-browed albatross, skuas, night herons, giant petrels, striated caracaras and of course sheep. Included Activities: Visit with Stanley Locals Transport: G Expedition

Days 6-7 Southern Ocean/South Georgia

Sailing east, set course for South Georgia. Days at sea are filled with lectures to prepare for landings. Watch for the many whales that inhabit these waters. Included Activities: Daily lectures and educational program Transport: G Expedition

Days 8-11 South Georgia/Scotia Sea

Weather permitting, four full days will be spent exploring this island. On nearby islands look out for the wandering albatross in their nesting grounds. Included Activities: South Georgia Island Exploration Transport: G Expedition

Days 12-13 Scotia Sea/Tierra de O'Higgins, Península

These waters are rich with nutrients and the long summer days provide the ingredient that is missing most of the year. The result is a complex food chain topped by several species of whales, seals, and seabirds. Included Activities: Daily lectures and educational program Transport: G Expedition

Days 14-18 Tierra de O'Higgins, Península/Drake Passage

Finally a chance to step foot on the Great White Continent! Over the next four days, the Expedition will navigate southwards making stops in the South Shetland Islands then through the Bransfield Strait and to the Antarctic Peninsula. Our goal is to attempt two excursions per day while we navigate through the area but our itinerary and daily schedule will be based on the local weather and ice conditions that we encounter. The Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands abound with wildlife activity. Take a chance to visit scientists working in modern research bases, with plenty of time to enjoy the sheer beauty and the breathtaking scenery of ice-choked waterways, blue and white icebergs, impressive glaciers and rugged snow-capped mountains. The Peninsula also has a remarkable history and, during the voyage, opt to learn about some of the most important and dramatic expeditions to this remote corner of the world. Included Activities: Scientific Research Station Visit Transport: G Expedition

Days 19-20 Drake Passage/Ushuaia

Heading north across the Drake Passage, spend two days enjoying the beauty of the sea while sailing for Ushuaia. In between bird watching, whale watching, and enjoying some final lectures by our expedition staff, this is a chance to relax and review the adventures of the past week before returning to Ushuaia. Remember, the best way to experience the wildlife of the Drake Passage is to be on deck keeping a look out for Albatross, Prions, and Whales! Included Activities: Daily lectures and educational program Transport: G Expedition

Day 21 Ushuaia (1B)

Our adventure comes to a close. Have a final breakfast on the ship before saying goodbyes before disembarking in Ushuaia in the morning. Included Activities: Departure Day

Although advertised as a National Geographic tour, this G Adventures tour cannot match the high standard one would expect from Nat Geo. Our young driver/ tour guide did her best, but was no naturalist. She gave a bare minimum of info on our long drives and mostly just played music inside our bus. A couple of activities actually led by naturalists (our Sequoia guide & Monterey Aquarium guide) were excellent. And the marine biologist on the booked Whale Watch was excellent too. But much of the rest of this tour was disappointing in comparison with other small group tours we've taken. I could go into extensive detail, but there is too much to say. I'll give just one example: the lack of specific dates, times and accommodations on our itinerary. We were promised the "Wuksachi Lodge or similar" in Sequoia National Park but arrived at John Muir Lodge in King's Canyon instead. Now, anyone who has visited Sequoia will know that the John Muir is in no way "similar" to the Wuksachi, Sequoia's signature lodge and one of the reasons I chose G Adventures for this tour. All in all, this trip was a big disappointment.

Poorly-chosen itinerary. Crappy hotels with no air-conditioning, broken fridges, clogged showers, and smoked-through "non-smoking" rooms. No meals, no transport: you want it, you have to pay for it. Treated like cattle in the "third-class" accommodations on the overnight train. What did we pay for???

The tour started in Bali and ended there. From day 1, it was full of adventures and wonderful vibes from everyone, all led by our knowledgeable guide Hans. He was at the center of everything and he knows the place and people everywhere which made all the visits and the daily tours fantastic.
The places we visited were well chosen and the timing was paced to everyone's ability. We had to get up early for a sunrise trip to Kelimutu and this remained memorable to all of us. The Komodo Island trip with the Komodo dragoons was equally fantastic.
We enjoyed the final parts of the tour with the beaches, among others the Pink Beach and the hotel on the beach in Labuan Bajo, Flores.
Overall, the tour was wonderful. I would end with a special word to the guide Hans: Thank you Hans, and good luck. Dave

The experience was great and our CEO had excellent knowledge on the sites we visited as well as Egypt in general. Our accommodation however was not close to the "3 star" as advertised. Albeit the staff was nice, the hotels were not really well maintained and it was more comfortable to sleep on the floor than on the bed. The breakfast was minimal - eggs were very oily in pans that looked like they were last cleaned a decade ago. I would definitely recommend taking the package but rather seeking your own accommodation.

This trip was a bucket list trip. We were thrilled with the amount of detail and planning that G Adventures put into this. It was amazing. there was a perfect mix of urban meets rural. The Safari's were spectacular. The wild life interaction was more than we bargained for. The lodges were very accommodating and the service beyond compare. Our CEO (guide) was very knowledgeable and in tune with everyone's needs. We chose to stay in Zambia a 3 days after the scheduled trip. Most of our souvenirs were found here. The night entertainment was great. We believe that group guided trips are not for every vacation. This one is definitely one to let G Adventures do the research and planning for you. Just go and relax there is a lot to enjoy.

You usually have to step from the Zodiac into water, which can be up to 1 ft or 30 cm high on most landings. Do not bring heavy, cumbersome boots that make it difficult to walk. CAMPING & KAYAKING EXCURSIONS For the more adventurous, our kayaking and camping trips provide the opportunity to encounter the intimacy and power of the polar regions in ways very few people can lay claim to having experienced. For details about these optional activities, including prep notes and full terms and conditions, please visit our Polar Excursions page.
