My tour with G Adventures to Japan was spectacular! The focus was on an immersive experience, and I worried this might mean an elimination of classic sights. Since I'd never been to Japan, it was important to me to have both a local experience as well as learn the history and see what "tourists" see.

My reservations were quickly abated, as the tours was a wonderful balance of both. We ate in local restaurants and took public transportation, visited famous temples, and took walking tours through monasteries. One of the most amazing experiences was chanting with Buddhist monks high in the mountains at a traditional Buddhist Monastery in Koyasan, as rain poured down outside adding to the mystical feeling of being out of place and time. Truly spectacular and something I'll never forget.

Our guide, Kozo was amazing. Incredibly knowledgable and as a local himself, eager to share his culture with all of us. I also very much appreciated having someone who spoke the language along with us.

I would highly recommend this tour! My one warning would be to say that you will be lugging your suitcase around on public transportation, which can be a bit of a drag. Pack light!

Just returned from this Indochina Encompassed, best month of my life! I've visited over 20 countries and have to say this is by far the best trip I've ever done! So many unbelievable moments it would be impossible to list my favorites. I felt like I've been away months, I still can't believe how much we packed into 29 nights. If you're looking for a true adventure, this trip is amazing! Huge thanks to Ratha for being an amazing CEO! Made friends and memories that will last a lifetime! Already planning my next trip with my roomie! Awesome trip! Thanks G Adventures!

From my personal experience, if it’s your first time travelling solo (male or female), I would highly recommend a G-Adventures tour. They give you the chance to experience the country at a deeper level, particularly if your time there is limited.

Already having transport and accommodation organised, accompanied with a flexible itinerary, enables you to completely lose yourself in what the country has to offer.

Additional Information:

Important Notes

1. CULTURE Uzbekistan is a country which may be very different to anything you have experienced before. Mixture of Soviet heritage and Islam, summer heat and winter cold, religious conservatism, traffic and crowds can result in initial culture shock but should be seen as an exciting new challenge. During our time here we have come to love this wonderfully different country but we know that we should always expect to encounter some difficulties along the way. 2. FLIGHT G Adventures CEO does not accompany passengers on their flight from Khiva to Tashkent on the Departure day if the rest of the group continue travelling to Turkmenistan and Iran. 3. DRESS CODE Though you can see lots of people in traditional clothes, UZBEKISTAN has adopted western style clothing as well. Don't hesitate to pack your usual travel clothes: in Summer it can be shorts and T-shorts, sandals etc. We recommend to forget about singlets, single tops and any types of clothes with bare shoulders and backs - it is unacceptable in most areas, and even in big cities. Our tours take us to many religious sights, where dress code is very strict. We recommend women to have a headscarf in their bags - to cover head when going inside mosques (it's also a great help in the heat in summer). Best things to pack for hot Central Asian climate are loose, long clothing - long trousers and sarongs or long skirts for women. In cold season (from end of October till end of April) it can rain and snow - bring warm clothes, jackets and comfortable warm shoes for walking. Good idea is to check weather web sties about a week before you depart home - to know what type of weather to expect. 4. MONEY Due to the restrictions on changing money in Central Asia region, in Uzbekistan only notes/bills printed after 1996 and in good condition will be accepted for exchange. Usually 50 and 100 USD/EUR notes get better exchange rate. We recommend to bring smaller denominations as well - many vendors accept them if you don't have local currency. 5. RAMADAN According to the lunar cycle, Ramadan will fall between May 27th and June 25th, 2017. Please note that Ramadan is a month of fasting observed by Muslims throughout the world, during which time the followers of Islam should not eat or drink between sunrise and sunset. There may be some limitations to services and disruptions to schedules during Ramadan, but generally our tours still operate effectively during this period and food is available to non-Muslims throughout the day. It is very important to display increased cultural sensitivity during Ramadan. Please wear loose fitting clothes, that cover knees and shoulders, and try to avoid eating, drinking or smoking in public out of respect for those who can't at that time.

Meals

While traveling with us you will experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. Generally, to give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat, not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There is no obligation to do this though. Your CEO will be able to suggest favorite restaurants during your trip. Please check the 'meal inclusions' section below for details of meals included.

Physical Requirements Our small group adventures bring together people of all ages. It is very important you are aware that, as a minimum, an average level of fitness and mobility' is required to undertake our easiest programs. Travellers must be able to walk without the aid of another person, climb 3-4 flights of stairs, step on and off small boats, and carry their own luggage at a minimum. Travellers with a pre-existing medical condition are required to complete a short medical questionnaire, which must be signed by their physician. This is to ensure that travellers have the necessary fitness and mobility to comfortably complete their chosen trip. While our CEOs work hard to ensure that all our travellers are catered for equally, it is not their responsibility to help individuals who cannot complete the day's activities unaided. Please refer to the physical ratings in this Trip Details document for more information. The medical questionnaire can be found online at: www.gadventures.com/medical-form.
Rules & Other Requirements Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts the rest of the group at risk. Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for our travellers. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter, and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is. The exploitation of prostitutes is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our CEOs have the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession or if they use prostitutes.
