Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Tokyo, Japan. Welcome to Japan’s capital city. Hotel rooms are available for mid-afternoon check-in.

Day 2

Tokyo. Meet your Tour Director and traveling companions prior to morning sightseeing in Tokyo. Your tour starts with a visit to MEIJI SHRINE, a magnificent 20th-century Shinto monument set in a man-made forest. Next, stop at the IMPERIAL PALACE, a large complex consisting of a park area and moats carved out by stone walls. Last stop is the ASAKUSA KANNON TEMPLE and the NAKAMISE SHOPPING ARCADE. The balance of the afternoon is at leisure. Tonight, join your traveling companions at a welcome dinner hosted by your Tour Director. After dinner, take a WALKING TOUR with your Tour Director among the dazzling neon lights of Shinjuku. (B,L,D)

Day 3

Tokyo. Today, start your sightseeing at the TOKYO SKYTREE, the world’s largest freestanding tower, where you will ascend to one of the observation decks for spectacular views of the city. Next, visit an artist’s studio and learn to write like a local during a CALLIGRAPHY CLASS with a master calligrapher. Here, you’ll also have the opportunity to try on a traditional KIMONO and partake in a [LF] TRADITIONAL TEA CEREMONY, a wonderfully choreographed ritual of preparing and serving Japanese green tea. The remainder of the day is at leisure. (B)

Day 4

Tokyo–Kamakura–Mount Fuji Area. This morning, leave Tokyo and head south along the coast to Kamakura to see the 750-year-old Great Buddha. Continue on to the Mount Fuji area for a CRUISE on Lake Ashi, followed by a CABLE-CAR RIDE (weather permitting) for panoramic views of spectacular Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest mountain. (B,L,D)

Day 5

Mount Fuji Area–Kyoto. This morning, board one of Japan’s famous BULLET TRAINS bound for Kyoto. Upon arrival, visit the FUSHIMI INARI SHRINE, renowned for the thousands of brightly colored Torii Gates. After lunch in a local restaurant, continue on to the Higashiyama District to visit KIYOMIZU TEMPLE, the “Pure Water Temple,” with stunning views over Kyoto. Along the way, walk through the busy streets where shops and restaurants have been catering to pilgrims for centuries. This evening, you may choose to stay in a traditional Japanese ryokan. (B,L)

Traditional Ryokan Stay
Immerse yourself in the Japanese culture and hospitality at a ryokan (Japanese inn). Your ryokan, Gion Hatanaka, features traditional touches—tatami mat floors, a thin sleeping mattress on the floor, and the chance to experience a Japanese-style bath—as well as the modern convenience of a private bathroom. Included: transfers to/from ryokan from/to hotel in Kyoto; traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast.

Note:
Space is limited. Ask for price at time of booking.

Day 6

Kyoto. This morning starts with a visit to stunning Kinkakuji, the TEMPLE OF THE GOLD PAVILION. Next, visit YUZEN HANDMADE CORNER to learn about the Yuzen dyeing technique used to decorate kimonos by painting dye directly on the cloth. You will be invited to participate in making your own souvenir using this traditional method. For lunch, participate in a special [LF] JAPANESE COOKING CLASS. Under the instruction of a local chef you will learn how to make miso soup, teriyaki chicken, and makizushi, more commonly known as a sushi roll. The afternoon is at your leisure to explore this fascinating city on your own. (B,L)

Day 7

Kyoto. Nara Excursion. This morning, stop at SANJUSANGENDO TEMPLE, famous for its 1,001 statues of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. Flanking the main statue are 1,000 more life-sized statues, covered in gold leaf, with 40 arms said to have the power to save 25 worlds. Then, depart Kyoto for NARA, the oldest capital of Japan. Here, visit two separate UNESCO World Heritage Sites. First, at Nara Park, is TODAIJI TEMPLE, built in 752 AD and one of Japan’s most famous significant temples. Rebuilt after a fire in 1692, the temple is only two-thirds its original size, yet remains the world’s largest wooden building. The Daibutsu (Giant Buddha) inside the main hall is made of copper and bronze, and is the largest in all of Japan, weighing in at 250 tons and standing some 49 feet tall! Nearby is KASUGA SHRINE, known for its 3,000 stone and bronze lanterns. Return to Kyoto for some leisure time. Tonight, your Tour Director hosts a farewell dinner to celebrate your discovery of Japan. (B,D)

Day 8

Kyoto. Your tour ends with breakfast this morning. Homebound flights from Kansai International Airport in Osaka should not depart prior to 11 am. (B)

The Globus vacation, "Kenya: A Classic Safari", was the best vacation I ever had! Globus has a knack for putting the special touches on each trip and, coupled with the EXCELLENT travel guide assigned to our trip, succeeded in making this a trip to be remembered. The breakfast in the bush on the last day was magnificent. The Sundowner, mimosas to watch the sunset as well as the Maasai dance performance, was so memorable! Top notch! I wouldn't hesitate to do this trip again. Thank you, Globus!

Rate 0, would never touch Globus or Cosmos tour again. Be warned if there is an issue with your tour - Don't expect Globus to help you or provide a resolution – care factor is nil. Don't risk it - don't buy Globus or Cosmos. Globus and CEO of Globus accepts and approves employee bad behavior - including lying, disrespect and mock client in front of them and putting the client health and safety at risk - I have proof in emails that support this. Had major trouble on a Cosmos 15 night trip in Sicily - 10 nights of 15 nights trip went through extreme stress and no resolution (not during the trip or after rectification).

The tour guide was extremely unprofessional in behavior - lying to clients repeating, tour guide was disrespectful, mock, belittle, laugh about and downgrade clients in front of them in Italian thinking they don't understand what you are saying (clients understood what was said and extremely upset), the tour guide and company ignore risks and forced two of the shared clients to share with another that was an issue (that person should not been allowed to purchase a twin share or should of been told to get own room on tour - sharing with this person posed WHS hazards with power cords hanging mid high across room for their medical equipment (trip hazard) and breach of privacy and access to basic amenities (sharing with a stranger twin share - where can't shut bathroom door to go to toilet or shower - as the only power point is in bathroom and her equipment had to be plugged in for life support). Multiple clients on tour complained to tour guide for 10 days and demanded another room, the tour guide did not deal with it and lied, also mocked and disrespected clients in front of them. While on tour multiple complaints emailed direct to Globus as governing body did nothing and swept it under the table and ignored it. Multiple complaints was lodge after trip as well - still no action or resolution, Multiple complaints alerting CEO of Globus (12 pages letter full examples, photos and correspondence - still no action and I specifically ask CEO questions Does the CEO accept staff bad behaviour and breach of code of conduct - approving Globus staff lying, disrespectful, mocking clients and in Italian too and a whole heap more - I received a call today and YES the CEO of Globus approves the bad behaviour of staff and clients being disrespecting, mocking, lying and more. I travel extensively all over the world for 28 years, no other Tour company does this - all other companies will resolve it. Don't risk it - don't use Globus or Cosmos - if you have an issue you wont get help. Use another tour company - there are plenty of good ones out there who will stand by their service.

My husband and I and a good friend just returned from the Italian Escape in March. We travelled to Rome, Assisi, Florence, Pisa and Venice. What a great trip! Our excursions were wonderful- the Uffizi gallery, Tuscan dinner, Roman walking tour and Venice gondola ride. The tour guide Luca and Lucianna our bus driver did a very nice job. Our hotels, the Cicerone in Rome, the Grand Mediterraneo in Florence and Carlton on the Grand were very nice. (My favorite was the Grand Mediterraneo.)
Our travel connection was Steve in Littleton, Colorado and he was outstanding making our flight AND trip plans.
I was especially impressed with the expert planning on the part of a Globus. We saw so much in a weeks time, yet had plenty of time to experience Rome, Venice and Florence on our own.
We arrived in Rome early the 1st day so we scheduled a Skip the Line tour to visit the inside of the Coloseum, as that wasn’t scheduled on the Globus tour. We are really glad we were proactive in that way.
We HIGHLY recommend this Escape with Globus; we enjoyed it so much the week we got back we scheduled an Ireland Escape for later this year!

I sent an email to you about 2 weeks ago. I have lost faith and trust with Globus. Eleven of your travelers could easily have filed a suit for being stranded in a foreign country without ability to contact Globus. Shame on you.
Twice, I have traveled with you and twice I have found myself lost and alone in a foreign country.
