Learn about America's history in Philadelphia and Washington DC, visit an Amish community and the stunning Finger Lakes region. Soak up the French heritage of Quebec and the proud history of Boston, enjoy the rugged White Mountains National Forest and an included Maid of the Mist Cruise at Niagara Falls. Featuring cosmopolitan cities, small country towns and picturesque landscapes, colonial New England and French Canadian culture offer a perfect blend of cultures and experiences.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival day in New York City

Welcome to the 'Big Apple', the city that never sleeps on the bustling island of Manhattan in New York State. This city needs no introduction and there's plenty to keep you entertained ahead of your welcome meeting at 18:00 hrs in your hotel. Wander around on foot, explore Manhattan and Brooklyn on a cruise, or simply grab yourself a central Manhattan view for a spot of people watching to acquaint yourself with this lively city.

Day 2-3: New York City, Philadelphia and Washington DC

Departing New York City, your first stop is Philadelphia, or 'Philly' as the locals call it. Visit the Liberty Bell, climb the famous 'Rocky Steps' and enjoy some free time to peruse the colourful Reading Terminal Market. Why not cast your eyes on Independence Hall where brave men gathered at the Pennsylvania State House and defied the King of England; an event which helped shape the US Constitution? Visit Washington DC where you may opt for an illuminated view of the famous icons such as the White House, Jefferson Monument and Capitol Hill - the perfect introduction to the city. When it comes to DC's museums, 'Land of the Free' and the sensational Smithsonian are well worth a stop. Sports fans can opt to watch a baseball game (in season) for an authentic American experience.

Day 4: Lancaster and Finger Lakes

Leaving DC behind you make your way towards the beloved Finger Lakes, a beautiful forested region filled with lakes and inland waterways - some of the deepest in USA. The area is also New York State's largest wine producing region with over 100 vineyards located around the lakes. A wine tasting experience at one of the vineyards is included and there's also a chance to take a dip in the cool waters of one of the lakes.

Day 5: Niagara Falls and Toronto

You reach the border Canadian border, stopping to feel the thunder and bask in the spray of one of North America's best known natural attractions, Niagara Falls. These famous falls are located on the Niagara River, which drains from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario; forming the actual border between USA and Canada. There are two major falls - the American Falls and the iconic Horseshoe Falls, also known as the Canadian Falls. The Horseshoe Falls has a drop of 53 metres (173 feet) and the American Falls has a drop of between 21-30 metres (70-100ft.). You can enjoy an included cruise on the 'Canadian Hornblower', which takes you right up to the base of the falls. Afterwards, continue along the shores of Lake Ontario to Canada's largest city, Toronto.

Day 6: Toronto

Enjoy a free day exploring the cosmopolitan city of Toronto, which has a city population of 2.5 million and a metropolitan population of over 5 million, making it one of the largest cities in North America. Those with a head for heights and a passion for panoramic views can head up to the observation deck at the top of the CN Tower. When completed in 1976 it was the world's tallest tower with a height of 553 metres (1815 feet) - a status it held for 34 years. Enjoying a lunch of dim sum in Chinatown and dinner in Greektown, visiting key sights in between including the Royal Ontario Museum, Art Gallery of Ontario, Hockey Hall of Fame, Eaton's Shopping Complex and Toronto Zoo. There is so much to do here, you won't know where to start!

Day 7-8: Montreal

Travel from Ontario to the French speaking province of Quebec and Canada's cultural capital, Montreal. Well known for its music, museums and avant-garde artistic flair, Montreal is one classy city and in the summer you can enjoy a huge selection of lively festivals. Montreal was also the site of the 1976 Olympic Games and you can visit the stadium, which is the largest in Canada. One of the highlights is an optional dinner in the dark at 'O'Noir', where you eat in the pitch black for a unique culinary experience. Soak up the atmosphere of the narrow lanes, quirky cafes and world class shopping, or scream across the Lachine Rapids on an extreme jet-boat tour! Why not try a classic local meal of poutine, cheesy curds on top of thin French fries, topped with thick Canadian gravy? You'll be quick to realise why this is a favourite with locals and tourists alike.

Day 9: Quebec City

Continue your journey of historic discovery by spending a day exploring the streets of North America's only surviving walled city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Quebec City. Founded in 1608 on the banks of the St Lawrence River, it's one of the oldest cities in North America and as a major French speaking cultural centre, arguably one of its most European. Strolling around the Old Town feels like stepping back in time and along the way you can check out some of the local delicacies on sale. Old Quebec has many important and iconic places including Place Royale, Plains of Abraham, Place d'Armes, the Chateau Frontenac Hotel and the old city walls. Eight miles (12km) from Quebec City are the mighty Montmorency Falls, which are higher than Niagara Falls and well worth a visit. To see another side of Quebec, why not try a ghost walking tour where storytellers lead you through the streets of the Old Town by lantern, recounting the hangings and hauntings of days gone by.

Day 10: White Mountains National Forest

The White Mountains National Forest is a mountain range covering a quarter of the state of New Hampshire and are especially beautiful to visit in autumn when the leaves turn from green to golden hues. Situated on the Appalachian Trail, this national forest boasts some incredible mountain scenery, which never fails to impress. The most famous of the mountains is Mount Washington (1,917 meters / 6,288ft.), which is the highest peak in the Northeastern US and sits in a line of summits called the Presidential Range named after former US presidents. Upon arrival you'll enjoy half a day to hit the walking trails that are dotted around the forest.

Day 11-12: Boston

In Boston, retrace the steps of the nation's forefathers with an included tour of the Freedom Trail or stroll the shops and stalls of Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. Harvard University is nearby and as the oldest institution of higher learning in America, has plenty for history buffs to enjoy. After all this exploring why not hit the waterfront for a traditional seafood dinner?

Day 13: Boston and New York City

Saying goodbye to Beantown, you make your way back towards the city that never sleeps for the end of the tour and one last chance to explore this eclectic city at your leisure.

This tour ends at our gateway hotel at approximately 17:00 hrs. We can book you post-tour accommodation at our gateway hotel if required. If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 21:00 hrs.

My tour guide, Ned (Edward) did and exceptional job of making my experience the best it could be. He regularly went above and beyond his job description and helped cater for persons of all ages and fitness levels. He had a great attitude towards his job.
I cannot think of any negatives about this tour. It was a lot better than I had expected. It is a great way to see so much if you are on a restrictive time line. I cannot recommend this tour enough!

Cancellation Policy:

If you Change or Cancel your Booking

If, after our confirmation has been issued, you

(i) make a change to your existing booking, we will charge an amendment fee of US$90 per booking for each change , or

(ii) wish to change to another of our holidays or change departure date, we will try to make the changes subject to availability, provided that notification is received in writing at our offices from the lead name at least 56 days before departure

In addition to the fee we charge, any alteration, whether a change to an existing booking or a change to another holiday or departure date, will also be subject to payment by you of any costs imposed by any of the suppliers providing the component parts of the holiday. If the holiday to which you transfer is more expensive than the one you originally booked, a further deposit will also be payable. Any alteration by you within 56 days of departure (90 days for Antarctica tours, 84 days for Ultimate Transcontinental) will be treated as a cancellation of the original booking and will be subject to cancellation charges. For Self-drive Campervan Tours, shortening of a rental period will be quoted as a new rental and will be subject to availability and calculated at the retail rate with no promotional or other special offers applied or applicable.

Subject to section 4.4, where you are unable to travel you can transfer your booking to another Person, providing the following conditions are met:

You notify us in writing at least 56 days before departure (90 days for Antarctica tours, 84 days for Ultimate Transcontinental) and give us authority to make the transfer; and

Your request is accompanied by all original travel documents which you have received and the full name and address of the person to whom you wish to transfer your holiday booking ("transferee"); and

The transferee accepts the transfer and these booking conditions, and fulfils any conditions that apply to the booking; and

The transferee shows us evidence of their holiday insurance, as your policy cannot be transferred, and the premium cannot be refunded; and

Payment is made by you of an administrative charge of a minimum of US$170 per person plus payment of all costs charged or levied by those supplying your travel arrangements, and the holiday must be paid in full at the time of the transfer.

Both the transferor and transferee will be jointly and severally liable for payment of the holiday price and other associated expenses.

Some airline carriers and other transport providers treat name and departure detail changes, such as date and time changes, as a cancellation. Accordingly you may have to pay for the cancelled ticket and be required to pay for the full cost of a new ticket.

You, or any member of your party, may cancel your holiday at any time providing that the cancellation is made by the lead name in writing. Notice of cancellation will be effective upon receipt by us of your written communication. As we start to incur costs from the time the contract is confirmed we will retain your deposit and in addition will apply other cancellation charges as shown below. These charges are based on how many days before your booked departure we received your cancellation notice. These charges are a percentage of the total cost of your booking, not including your insurance premium. If you want to cancel one or more passengers on the booking you will have to pay a proportion of the applicable cancellation charge based on the number of passengers you wish to cancel from the booking:

Tours 42 days or longer in duration, cancelled 85 days before departure: Loss of deposit

Tours 42 days or longer in duration, cancelled between 57 to 84 days before departure: 25% of the holiday cost

Tours 41 days or under in duration, cancelled more than 56 days before departure: Loss of deposit

All tours cancelled between 56 and 43 days before departure (inclusive): 50% of the holiday cost.

All tours cancelled between 42 and 31 days before departure (inclusive): 75% of the holiday cost.

All tours cancelled 30 days or less before departure (or failure to join the holiday or failure to pay any local payment due) (inclusive): 100% of the holiday cost.

Please note that for certain travel arrangements e.g. many scheduled transport providers, the cancellation charge may be higher than those shown. In certain cases a 100% cancellation fee applies as soon as the booking is made and the ticket is issued. Please ask for full details of cancellation charges at time of booking. We strongly recommend you to take out insurance that includes cover against irrecoverable cancellation costs. Additionally, you will remain responsible for the full amount of your insurance premium and this will not be refunded in the event of your cancellation. You may however be able to transfer this cover to another holiday. If you are travelling on a scheduled flight, we cannot give you any refund until we have received your old travel documents, including tickets.

It is recommended that reservations for pre and post tour accommodation are made at least one month before the departure date of the tour. If you cancel a reservation for pre and post tour accommodation that has been confirmed after final payment has been made, and is between 56 days and 35 days of departure, then an amendment fee of GB£25/Euro30/US$40/AUS$50/NZD50 will be charged. If a reservation for pre and post tour accommodation is cancelled within 35 days of departure then such accommodation cost becomes 100% non-refundable. For the avoidance of doubt, this clause only applies to pre and post tour accommodation.
