Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Oaxaca!

Accommodation: Conzatti House Hotel

Arrive at Oaxaca airport and transfer to your hotel in Oaxaca, a city recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Combining pre-Hispanic, colonial, independent, modern, and contemporary styles, Oaxaca is a lovely oasis in the midst of rugged mountainous terrain that defines this region.

Check into your accommodation, then take a walk about town and enjoy your first authentic Oaxacan meal.

Transfer to Oaxaca hotel

Day 2: Oaxaca

Today, enjoy a comprehensive and thorough tour of Oaxaca City. You'll visit the 20 de Noviembre market, a chocolate factory, the main square, cathedral and botanical garden.

After the tour, head to the Museum of Oaxacan Cultures housed in the beautiful monastery buildings adjoining the Templo de Santo Domingo. Learn about the history and culture of Oaxaca, from the pre-Hispanic era to present day.

Walking tour of Oaxaca

Go on a walking tour through Oaxaca City, also named “Patriot’s Cradle." Built around the Sierra del Sur mountains, the city is rich in provincial flair, arts, and crafts; here you can purchase figurines made out of the famous black clay, textiles, or replicas of Mixtec jewelry. Your tour includes a visit to the 20 de Noviembre market where Oaxacan folklore is very present.

Enter a chocolate factory and taste Oaxaca's signature hot chocolate, nowadays known around the globe, then visit the Zócalo (Oaxaca’s main plaza) with its cathedral constructed by the Dominicans in the 16th-century. Stroll through the touristic walkway Alcalá, one of the main streets in the city that was turned into a pedestrian road connecting the Zócalo with the Santo Domingo market.

Continue to the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, which once formed part of a monastery, but is now transformed into a state museum. End your visit at the Ethno Botanical Garden where you can see hundreds of plant species originating from different regions all over the state of Oaxaca.

Day 3: Oaxaca

Today you'll embark on your first bike tour through Oaxaca's beautiful Central Valleys. See ancient ruins from your bike and visit several villages where you'll enjoy a typical Oaxacan lunch.

Return to Oaxaca City and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Consider checking out the latest exhibit at the Textile Museum and picking up a unique handmade souvenir!

Mountain bike tour with local lunch (Bicycle rental, helmet and gloves included)

Bike along ancient roads connecting several villages in the Central Valleys of Oaxaca! The diverse topography of the region is ideal for all levels; the route may sometimes be fast and fun for advanced bikers and a medium challenge for beginners. Enjoy remote and safe roads, friendly residents, and panoramic views of the countryside including the archaeological site of Monte Albán.

Visit the village of Arrazola, famous for its wooden figures in bright colors commonly known as “Alebrijes." Continue to Cuilapan de Guerrero, where you will visit the unfinished but marvelous ex-monastery of Cuilapan, a 16th-century architectural complex.

Next stop is Zaachila, regionally famous for its history, legends, and ancient traditions existing until today. While here, enjoy a delicious Oaxacan lunch, in addition to the tasty ice cream made of natural fruit offered all over the town center.

Day 4: Oaxaca

Gear up for a full-day biking and hiking tour! See the widest tree in the world, visit a local family for lunch, take a dip in natural mineral pools, and end the day with mezcal at a palenque (a mezcal distillery).

Oaxaca produces most of the world's mezcal, and here it is traditionally drunk with a side of sal de gusado (worm salt). If you're up for an adventurous drink, it's worth a shot!

Mountain bike & hiking tour with local lunch (Bicycle rental, helmet and gloves included)

Begin your full-day tour with a 30-minute transfer from Oaxaca City to Santa María del Tule. Upon arrival, visit the legendary 2,000-year-old Tule tree while your guides unload and prepare the bikes. From here, begin a 16-mile off-road route, passing through several villages in Oaxaca valley like Guendulain, Lachigolo, Tlacochahuaya, Macuilxochitl and Teotitlán del Valle. The latter is famous for its weaver artisans like Doña Josefina and family, who will welcome you with a demonstration of the villages’ traditional art.

Continue by bike to Santa Anna del Valle; the first part of the tour ends near Tlacolula de Matamoros, where vehicles await you. Drive to Mitla and visit the archaeological site. If you prefer to skip the visit, continue directly to Hierve el Agua, where Doña Emilia will serve a rustic and authentic lunch of tlayudas, quesadillas, memelitas “al comal” with beans, cheese, guacamole and other sauces, accompanied by a cold beer or soft drink.

After lunch, hike to the nearby petrified waterfalls of Hierve el Agua and swim in the natural pools. On the way back to Oaxaca by car, you may choose to stop at a palenque (Mezcal distillery) on the way. You'll be introduced to the manufacturing process of this liquor derived from the Maguey plant and enjoy a Mezcal tasting in its different presentations.

Day 5: Oaxaca – Huatulco

Accommodation: Barcelo Huatulco

Say goodbye to Oaxaca City as you transfer to the airport for your flight to Huatulco on the Pacific Coast. Upon your arrival, check into your all-inclusive resort and spend the rest of the day relaxing!

As Mexico's youngest resort town, Huatulco is full of unspoiled beaches and hidden gems. The region is made up of nine bays all with their own special flavor.

Transfer to Oaxaca airport (OAX)

Fly to Huatulco!

Day 6: Huatulco

Spend the next three days in Huatulco at your leisure. Take advantage of what's offered at your resort or simply rest by the pool. If the beach is calling, head to Cacaluta Beach by boat or a 20-minute hike through the woodlands. You'll be rewarded with an enormous sandy beach totally free from crowds!

Day 7: Huatulco

Enjoy your second full day of beachy paradise in Huatulco. Head into the small yet charming town of La Crucecita. Centered around the main square or "zocalo" are a number of restaurants, shops, and a beautiful church, Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.

Day 8: Huatulco

Zipolite Beach is one of the best beaches in Huatulco - pack a towel and sunscreen and head out for a day of sun, sand, and surf. Upon returning to your resort, enjoy one last Oaxacan dinner like mole poblano, one of the seven moles of Oaxaca!

Day 9: Depart Mexico

Your Oaxacan adventure ends today. At the appropriate time, transfer to the airport for your flight home.

When I booked with Great Value I was nervous because it seemed too good to be true. Nope, just a really great deal. I was able to take my dream trip to Ireland and Scotland and it was within my budget. Everything was covered, my lodging, flights, and rental car. There was no hidden fees, or fine print that would nickel and dime me later on, as "good deals" usually have. I also had to change the date of my trip and the customer service was excellent and this change was simple. Thank you Great Value, I'll be using you every time I travel from now on

Everything on the trip was excellent. The only concern with any services from GVV was initial communications ahead of the trip regarding when and how we'd receive all our travel vouchers, as some were available online, and some were to be picked up in country upon arrival. It took no less than 5 phone calls to learn some vouchers would be picked up in country. The trip was outstanding, exhausting, but gloriously beautiful. It was exhausting from the perspective of moving around the country and only a few places were 2 nights. But, we knew that going in, and we wanted to see ALL of Switzerland and this certainly checked those boxes. We saw majestic mountains, we saw countless waterfalls and glaciers. The trains in Switzerland were all clean and we felt safe. The hotels were good with delicious breakfasts each morning. Overall, I would recommend GVV to a friend or family member and I would personally book another vacation with GVV.

This was my first time planning a trip out of the country. I read previous reviews who had a good experience with Great Value Vacation. Our trip was amazing! The booking and reservations were easy to use with the vouchers provided. The staff was helpful. The only downside was I upgraded to have an automatic vehicle and they gave me a stick shift. It took a while to get sorted out but other than that I loved my trip! I will definitely use great value vacations again when I book my next trip. I opted for the additional wine tasting package and I did not regret it! I recommend adding those additional tours to get a more complete experience.

My wife and I recently booked our vacation through Great Value Vacations. We were a bit nervous to travel to Europe for the first time, but we are glad we did. Great Value Vacations took care of us. Great customer service. Seamless transactions. They booked the hotels and flights for us. All we had to worry about were the daily activities! I would highly recommended them. The hotels offered through the package were as advertised: nice and in great locations. The flights times were also convenient. The best part was the price. I am thankful for the experiences Great Value Vacation was able to provide for us!

Really enjoyed both of my trips through Great Value Vacations. I went on one family trip to Ireland (Adare villa, rental car with trips out to Dublin, Cliffs of Moher and more) . The villa was very comfortable with a kitchen, three bedrooms, and proximity to the local shops /restaurants. We were able to upgrade to an automatic car and had fun navigating to each location on our itinerary. The trip as planned by the agency still leaves time for exploring on your own and since we picked a trip with our own transportation, we had flexibility on which tours we wanted to do and when.

My second trip was a solo trip to Scotland. I like to go on vacation by myself sometimes, but it can be hard to find ones where you aren’t penalized for being on your own. This train trip to Edinburgh, Inverness, and Glasgow worked out really well for me. The hotels were all near the train stations and in safe areas (good lighting, plenty of people, etc.). I got a good mix of options for sightseeing in each city. The hop-on, hop-off bus circuit was especially useful for getting around Edinburgh. I also added an extra tour on in Glasgow to see nearby castles and a distillery and was very glad to have done so as the views of the countryside were amazing!

Summary: Have enjoyed my previous experiences and would definitely use again

Just got back from our trip to Italy booked through Great Value Vacations & was our dream come true! We could not have gone if it were not for their unbelievable rates. Each 4 Star Villa we stayed at was above and beyond our expectations...I cried after leaving each part of our journey. I am so glad I took a leap of faith and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND booking with them. Besides the Villas being beautiful, great locations, clean, and great staff; each place we arrived at actually said, "They said to give you a very nice room." (with a rate of just under $1,900 a piece for 9 nights not counting travel days at 4 stars Villas in Rome, Tuscany, & Venice including airfare and rent a car... a few friends told us to expect the worst rooms at the places we were staying ~ NOT the case! Our rooms had the best views...I could go on and on. Every step of the way was smooth with no worries whatsoever. Thanks again GVV! LOVED IT!
