Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Buenos Aires!

Arrive in breathtaking Buenos Aires! Enjoy a comfortable transfer to your luxurious accommodation, then take your time relaxing and settling in. Tonight, treat yourself to your first (of many) authentic Argentinian empanada. These delicious pocket pastries come either deep-fried or baked, and are then filled with a sweet and/or savory stuffing. Empanada flavors can range from a dulce de leche dessert to a savory snack of ground beef and vegetables!

Spend the evening getting to know the city. You may want to stroll down the cultured neighborhood of Recoleta, lined with fashionable boutiques, galleries, cafes, and French-style buildings. Watch your first Argentinian sunset in one of the areas beautiful parks or plazas!

Recoleta is also home to a legendary cemetery, famous for being a mysterious labyrinth of gorgeous mausoleums belonging to the city's rich and powerful families. Although visiting a cemetery may not seem like the first thing you'd do on vacation, this one shouldn't be missed!

Day 2: Buenos Aires

Recharge with a pleasant breakfast, then look forward to your first full day in sunny Buenos Aires! This morning, you'll embark on an amazing tour of the city. Grab your camera and get ready to see all of Buenos Aires' must-see sights, as well as some charming lesser-known stops in-between. From San Telmo to La Boca to Recoleta to the Plaza De Mayo, you'll see it all today.

If time allows, head to the lush Palermo neighborhood. This gorgeous green area subdivides into smaller districts: Palermo Chico, Palermo Viejo, Palermo Soho, Palermo Hollywood, and Las Canitas. The entire neighborhood, designed by French landscape architect Charles Thays, consists of 350 acres of wooded parks and sparkling lakes - the perfect escape from the bustle of downtown. You'll definitely want to find the striking Japanese Garden, filled with traditional Japanese bridges and sculptures. Around Palermo, there are tons of picnic spots, so be sure to pack some goodies!

In the evening, put on your dancing shoes and get ready for an unforgettable experience! You'll be treated to a decadent dinner and a tango show at a historic tango house. Watch a spectacle of lively tradition while eating and drinking local specialties.

Buenos Aires City Tour including stop at Café Tortoni (5 hours)

Get in touch with the birth city of the Tango! Your city tour starts with a drive along 9 de Julio Avenue, the widest avenue of the world. Pass by the Colon Theatre, one of the world's best known opera houses and the cultural pride of the "portenos" (as the inhabitants of Buenos Aires are called).

Continue on to the famous Avenida de Mayo that runs into the Plaza De Mayo, surrounded by the Casa Rosada (Government House), the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Cabildo (first City Hall, built during Spanish rule). At the other end of Avenida de Mayo the cupola of the Congress building can be seen.

Next, step inside and explore the Neo-classical Metropolitan Cathedral, Argentina´s main catholic building. The mausoleum of General San Martin (our National Hero) is located inside the Cathedral, and Pope Francisco used to celebrate religious services in this Cathedral when he was cardinal of Buenos Aires city.

After a day of exploring, it's time for a break! Enjoy a stop at the famous Cafe Tortoni, Buenos Aires' oldest literati cafe, where you'll unwind with a cup of coffee and snack.

Now you'll visit the historic San Telmo neighborhood, the oldest district of Buenos Aires. Here you may have some time to stroll around Plaza Dorrego with its many antique shops

The adventure continues onto the colorful area of La Boca, and its famous street Caminito. Continue to the north area driving to Palermo, the green area of the city with its beautiful parks and artificial lakes. Here you'll also find the City Zoo, Botanical Garden, Argentine Horse Track, and National Polo Fields. At the end of the tour you will visit Recoleta area, one of the city’s most glamorous spots. Recoleta is home to elegant boutiques and restaurants, as well as the Recoleta cemetery.

The cemetery is the center of this aristocratic neighborhood, and the final resting of some of Argentina's most iconic personalities. The mausoleums and pantheons reflect the architectural diversity emerging from the different cultural tendencies Argentina incorporated in its formation as a nation. The cemetery is considered to be one of the most impressive monuments of Argentina. You'll spend about 30 minutes exploring, including a visit to Eva Duarte`s grave, known as Eva Peron (Evita).

Dinner & Tango Show at El Viejo Almacen (with transfers)

Experience the soul of Buenos Aires at a tango show with dinner! The Tango tradition started at the end of the 19th century, and developed out of a mixture of various rhythms, which were originally danced in the poorer neighborhoods.

Your night starts with a hotel pick-up, where you'll then be taken to one of the famous Tango Houses - El Viejo Almacen - for dinner. Enjoy a show with music, singing, and of course -  dancing.

The El Viejo Almacen, the home of traditional tango, became a unique place thanks to its historic location and authentic style. Every night its doors are open to enjoy an impressive tango show performed by prominent interpreters of the tango scene, a demonstration of Andean music, as well as exquisite cuisine.

Includes:

  • Hotel pick-up and drop-off
  • Entrance to Tango Show
  • 1 full dinner
  • Entree
  • Main course
  • Dessert
  • Drinks

Day 3: Buenos Aires - Puerto Madryn

Fuel up with a pleasant breakfast, then enjoy a convenient transfer to the airport - off to the sea you go! Arrive in sparkling Puerto Madryn, a coastal area home to tons of restaurants, bars, and picture-perfect beaches. The area also has some extra special residents - elephant seals, sea lions, Magellanic penguins, guanacos, and other species of adorable wildlife!

Relax on a short drive from the airport to your next hotel. Once you're all settled, meet your guide and take a ride to the Punta Tombo Penguin Colony! See these adorable little guys up-close and enjoy the scenic landscapes in which they live.

One of the most varied sea bird colonies in the world is nestled approximately 75 miles south of Trelew! Did you know Punta Tombo Reserve has the largest number of penguins outside Antarctica? Over one million - yes, million -  penguins migrate every year around mid-September. These penguins, however, share their land with some friendly neighbors. Other protected species in the area are nandues, guanacos, seals, and Patagonian hares!

Enjoy an unforgettable excursion, on which you will explore one of the biggest penguin colonies in the world! Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area and come face-to-face with amazing wildlife.

Day 4: Puerto Madryn

Wake up and get ready to see unbelievable nature today. Enjoy a full day visit to the spectacular Peninsula Valdes, where your eyes will widen at the sight of bright blue waters and friendly fauna.

Visit to Peninsula Valdes (full day)

Spend the day exploring Argentina's breathtaking coast. First, stop at the village of Puerto Piramides, a known whale-watching hot spot. Continue driving south and arrive at Punta Delgada, a beach haven for sea elephants all year round! Venture on to Punta Cantor and enjoy spectacular views of Caleta Valdes and the rest of the majestic peninsula. As you travel back on the Istmo Ameghino, keep an eye out for wild fauna, such as guanacos, rheas, foxes, maras, armadillos, choiques, and many more.

Day 5: Puerto Madryn - Ushuaia

Wave goodbye to Puerto Madryn and get ready to go south - really south - like, the southernmost city in the world, south. After a couple transfers and a quick flight, you'll be in the unique city of Ushuaia!

Settle into your luxurious accommodation, then pick right up and enjoy your tour of the city. What a perfect way to get to know the area! In addition, take advantage of your included visit to the Penitentiary Museum. Learn all about Ushuaia's complicated history, and find out how much it's progressed since!

Fly to Ushuaia (USH)!

Ushuaia City Tour with Penitentiary Museum (2 hours)

See all the highlights of the southernmost city in the world! This fast-growing hub is home to museums, restaurants, wildlife, and a beautiful boat-filled harbor. It's also home to an old, historic prison, which you will visit. Hear stories of struggle, punishment, and eventual triumph, while learning about the area's complicated past.

Day 6: Ushuaia

Today, you'll experience some of the most extraordinary and surreal landscapes in South America. You'll catch yourself thinking, "this looks like a movie" or "how can this be real?" Tierra del Fuego National Park is famous for its bright blue lagoons, turquoise rivers, glistening lakes, and hilly terrain. Snap tons of photos and hike the day away!

Excursion to Tierra del Fuego National park, including Lapataia Bay

Appreciate sparkling lakes, turquoise lagoons, and rushing rivers at this unbelievably gorgeous national park. On your way there, you'll head southwest, passing the slope of Susana Mount. Continue through the valley to Esenada Bay, where you'll be able to spot the Redonda and Estorbo Islands on the other coast of the Beagle Channel, the snow-white mountains of the Sampaio Chain in Chile.

Once you reach the forst, you will go to Lago Roca and hike by the lake coast and the Lapataia River. From this point, you'll be able to see Condor Hill, Argentina's natural border with Chile. On the way to Lapataia Bay, you'll be able to observe the Green Lagoon and the Black Lagoon, a large growing peat bog. On the shores of the bay, look out for steamer ducks, clovers, and cauquenes. Keep your eyes open for beaver dams and wildlife as you follow the path to Lapataia Bay!

Day 7: Ushuaia - Buenos Aires

Enjoy a pleasant breakfast, then take one last look at the land during your drive to the airport. Jet off to Buenos Aires, once again! Upon arrival, check-in to your hotel, then do some exploring. Check out new sites, or pay another visit to your favorites!

If you haven't yet, you might want to visit a museum, gallery, or outdoor market today! Stroll down Caminito in the La Boca neighborhood and feel the spirit of Argentinian music, dance, and culture. The streets of La Boca are lined with craft vendors and street artists - never too late to snag some handmade souvenirs!

When I booked with Great Value I was nervous because it seemed too good to be true. Nope, just a really great deal. I was able to take my dream trip to Ireland and Scotland and it was within my budget. Everything was covered, my lodging, flights, and rental car. There was no hidden fees, or fine print that would nickel and dime me later on, as "good deals" usually have. I also had to change the date of my trip and the customer service was excellent and this change was simple. Thank you Great Value, I'll be using you every time I travel from now on

Everything on the trip was excellent. The only concern with any services from GVV was initial communications ahead of the trip regarding when and how we'd receive all our travel vouchers, as some were available online, and some were to be picked up in country upon arrival. It took no less than 5 phone calls to learn some vouchers would be picked up in country. The trip was outstanding, exhausting, but gloriously beautiful. It was exhausting from the perspective of moving around the country and only a few places were 2 nights. But, we knew that going in, and we wanted to see ALL of Switzerland and this certainly checked those boxes. We saw majestic mountains, we saw countless waterfalls and glaciers. The trains in Switzerland were all clean and we felt safe. The hotels were good with delicious breakfasts each morning. Overall, I would recommend GVV to a friend or family member and I would personally book another vacation with GVV.

This was my first time planning a trip out of the country. I read previous reviews who had a good experience with Great Value Vacation. Our trip was amazing! The booking and reservations were easy to use with the vouchers provided. The staff was helpful. The only downside was I upgraded to have an automatic vehicle and they gave me a stick shift. It took a while to get sorted out but other than that I loved my trip! I will definitely use great value vacations again when I book my next trip. I opted for the additional wine tasting package and I did not regret it! I recommend adding those additional tours to get a more complete experience.

My wife and I recently booked our vacation through Great Value Vacations. We were a bit nervous to travel to Europe for the first time, but we are glad we did. Great Value Vacations took care of us. Great customer service. Seamless transactions. They booked the hotels and flights for us. All we had to worry about were the daily activities! I would highly recommended them. The hotels offered through the package were as advertised: nice and in great locations. The flights times were also convenient. The best part was the price. I am thankful for the experiences Great Value Vacation was able to provide for us!

Really enjoyed both of my trips through Great Value Vacations. I went on one family trip to Ireland (Adare villa, rental car with trips out to Dublin, Cliffs of Moher and more) . The villa was very comfortable with a kitchen, three bedrooms, and proximity to the local shops /restaurants. We were able to upgrade to an automatic car and had fun navigating to each location on our itinerary. The trip as planned by the agency still leaves time for exploring on your own and since we picked a trip with our own transportation, we had flexibility on which tours we wanted to do and when.

My second trip was a solo trip to Scotland. I like to go on vacation by myself sometimes, but it can be hard to find ones where you aren’t penalized for being on your own. This train trip to Edinburgh, Inverness, and Glasgow worked out really well for me. The hotels were all near the train stations and in safe areas (good lighting, plenty of people, etc.). I got a good mix of options for sightseeing in each city. The hop-on, hop-off bus circuit was especially useful for getting around Edinburgh. I also added an extra tour on in Glasgow to see nearby castles and a distillery and was very glad to have done so as the views of the countryside were amazing!

Summary: Have enjoyed my previous experiences and would definitely use again

Just got back from our trip to Italy booked through Great Value Vacations & was our dream come true! We could not have gone if it were not for their unbelievable rates. Each 4 Star Villa we stayed at was above and beyond our expectations...I cried after leaving each part of our journey. I am so glad I took a leap of faith and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND booking with them. Besides the Villas being beautiful, great locations, clean, and great staff; each place we arrived at actually said, "They said to give you a very nice room." (with a rate of just under $1,900 a piece for 9 nights not counting travel days at 4 stars Villas in Rome, Tuscany, & Venice including airfare and rent a car... a few friends told us to expect the worst rooms at the places we were staying ~ NOT the case! Our rooms had the best views...I could go on and on. Every step of the way was smooth with no worries whatsoever. Thanks again GVV! LOVED IT!
