Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Dubrovnik!

Welcome to the "Pearl of the Adriatic," Dubrovnik! Upon arrival, pick up your rental car and drive to your first accommodation. Spend the rest of the day at leisure in this enchanting city, which served as the setting for King's Landing in "Game of Thrones."

Celebrate your first night in Croatia with a traditional Croatian meal. One of the most well-known dishes is peka, or meat and potatoes cooked in a bell-like dome under hot coals.

Day 2: Dubrovnik

Wake up today and enjoy a morning walking tour of Old Town Dubrovnik! With the help of a local guide, you will see the historic highlights that make up Old Town, from Rector's Palace to the Franciscan Monastery.

After your tour, take the 4-minute cable car up to Mt Srđ. At the top, you will be treated to spectacular views of Old Town, the sparkling Adriatic sea, and several islands. Return to Old Town and enjoy a leisurely dinner while watching Croatian life pass you by.

Dubrovnik City Walking Tour

See the highlights of Old Town Dubrovnik on a morning walking tour! Meet your local guide at Pile Gate in front of Old Town, the natural starting point to any Dubrovnik visit. Begin at Rector's Palace, built in the 15th-century as the home of Dubrovnik's elected rector, then see Bell Tower Clock and Orlando's Column, a symbol of the city's freedom.

Continue to Sponza Palace, a splendid 16th-century palace that was a customs house, a mint, a state treasury and a bank. You will also enjoy views of the Dominican Monastery and the famous Franciscan Monastery with its pharmacy, one of the oldest in the world dating back to 1371.

Day 3: Dubrovnik - Split

Say goodbye to Dubrovnik this morning as you drive 148 miles to the city of Split, the second-largest city in Croatia after Zagreb. Upon arrival, enjoy a walking tour of the historic inner city including the UNESCO-certified Diocletian's Palace.

After the tour, treat yourself to a refreshing aperitif and a stroll along the palm-tree-studded Riva waterfront promenade. This area makes for prime people watching in Split!

Split City Walking Tour

Enjoy a walking tour of the historic inner city of Split, built around the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Meet your guide in front of the Diocletian Palace entrance, then explore the remnants of Split’s Roman heritage.

Gaze in awe at its Renaissance and Gothic structures and the Temple of Jupiter, originally an ancient Roman temple dedicated to the king of the gods. Continue to Peristyle Square in the center of the city, then end at the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, regarded as the oldest Catholic cathedral still in use.

Day 4: Split - Trogir - Zadar

Leave Split today and drive 20 miles north to the picturesque town of Trogir, built on a small island and connected to mainland Croatia by a stone bridge. This town is a real cultural treasure; stroll through its charming narrow streets and visit the beautiful St. Lawrence Cathedral.

After exploring Trogir, continue driving 96 miles to your second destination of Zadar. Upon arrival, enjoy a walking tour taking you to the Roman Forum and the Church of St. Donatus.

When the sun goes down, head to Zadar's waterfront to hear the sweet sounds of the sea organ and see the Sun Salutation light show!

Zadar City Walking Tour

Explore two of Zadar's highlights on this walking tour: the Roman Forum and the Church of St. Donatus. Begin at the Roman Forum, constructed between the 1st century BC and the 3rd century AD. Continue to the 9th-century Church of St. Donatus Church. Stones from the Roman Forum were used to build the neighboring rotunda of the Byzantine-style church, which is now used for concerts.

Day 5: Zadar - Plitvice - Opatija

After breakfast, leave Zadar and drive 92 miles to Plitvice Lakes National Park, a highlight of any trip to Croatia. Spend a few hours exploring the breathtaking scenery of the 16 terraced lakes that make up the park, and the surrounding wooded mountains and lush vegetation.

From the park, drive 110 miles to Opatija, a seaside resort town on the beautiful bay of Kvarner. Enjoy a sunset stroll along the promenade as you admire the handsome Belle Epoque villas built during the hey-day of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Day 6: Opatija - Zagreb

Spend a leisurely morning in Opatija, then pack up one more time as you drive 106 miles to your last destination, Zagreb. Croatia's capital and largest city hums with exciting cultural institutions, intriguing history, and a modern dining and nightlife scene.

Head to Zrinjevac Square, the verdant heart of Zagreb where there is always something going on. It's filled with stalls almost year round, and features festivals and events summer through winter.

Day 7: Zagreb

In the morning, set out on a walking tour of Zagreb's historical center, Gornji Grad, also known as Upper Town. With the help of a local guide, you will visit St. Mark's Church, Parliament, and the Government Palace. After the tour, take the funicular connecting the Lower and Upper Towns of Zagreb. Fun fact: it happens to be the shortest funicular ride in the world!

Continue to Zagreb's quirkiest museum, the Museum of Broken Relationships, which houses personal objects from failed relationships donated by people from all over the world. If that doesn't strike your fancy, the Museum of Contemporary Art houses an exciting display of Croatian and international art.

Zagreb City Walking Tour

See the gems of Zagreb on this morning tour! You will venture through historic Upper Town, then discover by some of the religious highlights of the city, from the medieval St. Mark’s Church to the Baroque-style St. Catherine’s Church.

You will also pass the Zagreb Cathedral - the tallest build in Croatia - as well as the important and iconic Parliament building and Government Place.

Your self-drive Croatian vacation ends today. At the appropriate time, drive to Zagreb airport, drop off your rental car, and transfer to your departure gate for your flight home.

When I booked with Great Value I was nervous because it seemed too good to be true. Nope, just a really great deal. I was able to take my dream trip to Ireland and Scotland and it was within my budget. Everything was covered, my lodging, flights, and rental car. There was no hidden fees, or fine print that would nickel and dime me later on, as "good deals" usually have. I also had to change the date of my trip and the customer service was excellent and this change was simple. Thank you Great Value, I'll be using you every time I travel from now on

Everything on the trip was excellent. The only concern with any services from GVV was initial communications ahead of the trip regarding when and how we'd receive all our travel vouchers, as some were available online, and some were to be picked up in country upon arrival. It took no less than 5 phone calls to learn some vouchers would be picked up in country. The trip was outstanding, exhausting, but gloriously beautiful. It was exhausting from the perspective of moving around the country and only a few places were 2 nights. But, we knew that going in, and we wanted to see ALL of Switzerland and this certainly checked those boxes. We saw majestic mountains, we saw countless waterfalls and glaciers. The trains in Switzerland were all clean and we felt safe. The hotels were good with delicious breakfasts each morning. Overall, I would recommend GVV to a friend or family member and I would personally book another vacation with GVV.

This was my first time planning a trip out of the country. I read previous reviews who had a good experience with Great Value Vacation. Our trip was amazing! The booking and reservations were easy to use with the vouchers provided. The staff was helpful. The only downside was I upgraded to have an automatic vehicle and they gave me a stick shift. It took a while to get sorted out but other than that I loved my trip! I will definitely use great value vacations again when I book my next trip. I opted for the additional wine tasting package and I did not regret it! I recommend adding those additional tours to get a more complete experience.

My wife and I recently booked our vacation through Great Value Vacations. We were a bit nervous to travel to Europe for the first time, but we are glad we did. Great Value Vacations took care of us. Great customer service. Seamless transactions. They booked the hotels and flights for us. All we had to worry about were the daily activities! I would highly recommended them. The hotels offered through the package were as advertised: nice and in great locations. The flights times were also convenient. The best part was the price. I am thankful for the experiences Great Value Vacation was able to provide for us!

Really enjoyed both of my trips through Great Value Vacations. I went on one family trip to Ireland (Adare villa, rental car with trips out to Dublin, Cliffs of Moher and more) . The villa was very comfortable with a kitchen, three bedrooms, and proximity to the local shops /restaurants. We were able to upgrade to an automatic car and had fun navigating to each location on our itinerary. The trip as planned by the agency still leaves time for exploring on your own and since we picked a trip with our own transportation, we had flexibility on which tours we wanted to do and when.

My second trip was a solo trip to Scotland. I like to go on vacation by myself sometimes, but it can be hard to find ones where you aren’t penalized for being on your own. This train trip to Edinburgh, Inverness, and Glasgow worked out really well for me. The hotels were all near the train stations and in safe areas (good lighting, plenty of people, etc.). I got a good mix of options for sightseeing in each city. The hop-on, hop-off bus circuit was especially useful for getting around Edinburgh. I also added an extra tour on in Glasgow to see nearby castles and a distillery and was very glad to have done so as the views of the countryside were amazing!

Summary: Have enjoyed my previous experiences and would definitely use again

Just got back from our trip to Italy booked through Great Value Vacations & was our dream come true! We could not have gone if it were not for their unbelievable rates. Each 4 Star Villa we stayed at was above and beyond our expectations...I cried after leaving each part of our journey. I am so glad I took a leap of faith and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND booking with them. Besides the Villas being beautiful, great locations, clean, and great staff; each place we arrived at actually said, "They said to give you a very nice room." (with a rate of just under $1,900 a piece for 9 nights not counting travel days at 4 stars Villas in Rome, Tuscany, & Venice including airfare and rent a car... a few friends told us to expect the worst rooms at the places we were staying ~ NOT the case! Our rooms had the best views...I could go on and on. Every step of the way was smooth with no worries whatsoever. Thanks again GVV! LOVED IT!
