Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Lima!

Welcome to Peru! Arrive in Lima then enjoy a transfer to your accommodation. As Peru's capital, Lima is a modern metropolis buzzing with activity year-round.

Lima is synonymous with gastronomy, so on your first night enjoy a typical Lima meal- ceviche and a pisco sour.

Transfer to Lima hotel

Day 2: Lima

Start the day with a tour of Lima's historic center. See the Cathedral, City Hall, the Government Palace and San Francisco Convent, admiring the colonial architecture along the way.

After the tour, you might want to head to Parque del Amor in the Miraflores neighborhood to see Lima's stunning coastline.

Sightseeing tour of Lima

Embark on a tour of Lima's main avenues, boulevards, and squares, beginning with an exploration of colonial Lima which was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. First, you will stop off at the Plaza de Armas, where you see the square on foot and admire the exteriors of the Government Palace, the Cathedral of Lima, and the City Hall- all examples of Lima's still-present colonial architectural opulence. Walk through the Cathedral’s numerous chapels, discover its various architectural styles from Renaissance to Neo-Classical, and learn about the religious history of Peru. End the tour with a visit to the pastel yellow San Francisco Convent built in the 17th century. Explore the lavish interior and visit the catacombs, ancient underground cemetery of Lima.

Day 3: Lima- Paracas

In the early morning, you will be transferred to Lima's bus station for your ride to Paracas, a small beach resort on the southern coast of Peru. In Paracas, you will discover where the desert meets the sea in one spectacular landscape.

After you've checked into your accommodation, enjoy a fly-over tour of the mysterious Nazca Lines, also known as geoglyphs, which have remained intact for 500 to 2000 years.

Fly-over tour to view Nazca Lines

Go on an unforgettable 30-minute flyover tour of the enigmatic Nazca Lines. Behold the incredible creative abilities of the ancient Peruvians as you discover one of humanity's greatest mysteries: geoglyphs and lines of colossal magnitude etched in the desert sands by the Nazca people. A monkey, a spider, a hummingbird, and more than 20 other figures can be seen occupying an area of approximately 190 square miles.

Day 4: Paracas- Lima

In the morning, enjoy an excursion to the Ballestas Island, known as "the poor man's Galapagos."  Witness the incredible array of wildlife inhabiting the island- dolphins, seals, pelicans and more!

After the tour, head back to Lima.

Ballestas Island excursion

Discover one of Peru's most scenic bays then take part in a fantastic voyage through the Ballestas Islands, a nature reserve with the largest concentration of guano-producing birds and sea lions on the Peruvian coast. Along the way, see the mysterious Candelabra- a candlestick-shaped figure etched on a sandy hillside, associated with the Nasca Lines.

As you approach Ballestas Island, mother nature will greet you with an impressive display. Thousands of birds, among them Peruvian Boobies and Guanay Cormorants, will drown out all other sounds with their peculiar honks and quacks. Sea lions will take a short break from bumping around on the protruding rocks, or fighting over territory, and will slip beneath the waves to approach your ship in a friendly manner.

Day 5: Lima- Cusco

Following breakfast at the hotel you will be transferred to the airport for your morning flight to Cusco.

In the evening, enjoy a walking tour taking you to Cusco Cathedral and the Inca sun temple Koricancha.

A Tip For Your Trip: Chewing coca leaves or drinking coca tea will help you adjust to Cusco's high altitude.

Continue the tour with a stroll through the Plaza de Armas, where you will discover the imposing Cathedral and admire its exquisite vestibules and priceless paintings from the Cusco School of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Day 6: Cusco

Wake up energized, because today you will be visiting Peru's most renowned attraction- Machu Picchu! Transfer to Ollantaytambo train station in the Sacred Valley for the train to Aguas Calientes. Once in town, take a bus up to the entrance gate where you will begin your private tour of the Inca citadel.

Take as many photos as you can (and even a selfie or two with a resident llama) before heading back to Aguas Calientes for the train to Ollantaytambo. Return to your hotel in Cusco and rest your tired feet after an unforgettable day.

Its architectural beauty, spectacular natural landscapes and the energy held in its enigmatic structures will take your breath away!

Day 7: Cusco- Sacred Valley- Cusco

From Cusco, hop on a bus to the Sacred Valley for your tour of the Ollantaytambo ruins and Pisac market.

In the evening, indulge in a few of Peru's delicacies. Adventurous eaters will want to try the local specialty, cuy (guinea pig).

Sacred Valley tour with visits to Ollantaytambo ruins and Pisac Market

Visit one of the last remaining Incan towns, Ollantaytambo, which was once fiercely guarded by a massive fortress. Discover the large archaeological complex that used to serve as a wayside inn for royal delegations on long journeys. Surviving structures here include multiple walls and towers used to protect the citadel from possible invasions. After touring the ruins, continue along the Sacred Valley to Pisac, a beautiful village where Incan and Colonial influences have created the unique way of life of the local inhabitants. Explore this quaint town, famous for its artisan market where you can find extraordinarily fine jewelry, ceramics and textile craftwork.

Day 8: Cusco- Puno

Today, you will take a bus from Cusco to your next destination of Puno in the south. On the way, visit a small village famous for its lavish church, tour an Incan archaeological site, and have lunch in the town of Pukara.

Arrive in Puno, the jumping off point for visitors to Lake Titicaca. Puno is also known as Peru’s capital folklórica (folkloric capital) and its famous Virgen de la Candelaria parade is broadcast throughout the world.

Visit to Andahuaylilias and Raqchi, including lunch

Visit the pretty Andean village of Andahuaylillas, originally Antawaylla or "field of copper." While in town tour the lavishly decorated Iglesia de San Pedro. This classic country church, built by the Jesuits in the late 16th century, is a simple edifice made of thick adobe mud-brick walls, a single nave with a belltower and a façade with two solid stone columns.

You will then visit the Raqchi archaeological complex, which includes many Inca ruins including a temple. Learn about the importance of Raqchi for the Inca military expansion toward the lake Titicaca. Have lunch in a local restaurant in Pucara famous for its pottery, especially the well-known “Toritos de Pucara” (Little Bulls of Pucara).

Pay a visit to Pucara Stone Museum, displaying a good little selection of anthropomorphic monoliths, zoomorphic sculptures, ceramics, and other objects from the Pucara pre-Inca Culture (original and replica pieces). The church located in the main square is also worth a visit.

Day 9: Puno

Today you will embark on a tour of Lake Titicaca, which Andeans believe is the birthplace of the sun. It's the largest lake in South America and the highest navigable body of water in the world. Enjoy visits to Uros and Taquile islands and get to know the cheery inhabitants!

Lake Titicaca Boat excursion to Uros and Taquile Islands, with lunch

Enjoy an extraordinary journey across the world's highest navigable lake, Lake Titicaca. The first stop will be Uros floating islands, a peculiar grouping of around 40 small islands made of totora, a natural reed that grows around the lake. Uros' cheerful inhabitants will invite you to get to know their traditional lifestyle and customs.

Continue your voyage across the placid waters of the lake until reaching the picturesque Taquile Island, a peaceful place where old Quechua traditions live in perfect balance with modernity. Discover a landscape distinct from the other islands thanks to the Incan terraces filled with local flowers and crops. The rich colors of the clothing worn by the local inhabitants will amaze; admire their beautiful hand-made fabrics. Enjoy the unbelievable hospitality of the islanders, known as Taquileños, who will make your visit to the island a memorable one. Before making your way back to Puno, enjoy lunch at a local home.

Day 10: Puno- Lima

Transfer to Puno airport and fly back to Lima. Once you arrive and settle into your hotel, dine on fresh seafood and say cheers to an unforgettable vacation with a Pisco Sour, Peru's national drink!

When I booked with Great Value I was nervous because it seemed too good to be true. Nope, just a really great deal. I was able to take my dream trip to Ireland and Scotland and it was within my budget. Everything was covered, my lodging, flights, and rental car. There was no hidden fees, or fine print that would nickel and dime me later on, as "good deals" usually have. I also had to change the date of my trip and the customer service was excellent and this change was simple. Thank you Great Value, I'll be using you every time I travel from now on

Everything on the trip was excellent. The only concern with any services from GVV was initial communications ahead of the trip regarding when and how we'd receive all our travel vouchers, as some were available online, and some were to be picked up in country upon arrival. It took no less than 5 phone calls to learn some vouchers would be picked up in country. The trip was outstanding, exhausting, but gloriously beautiful. It was exhausting from the perspective of moving around the country and only a few places were 2 nights. But, we knew that going in, and we wanted to see ALL of Switzerland and this certainly checked those boxes. We saw majestic mountains, we saw countless waterfalls and glaciers. The trains in Switzerland were all clean and we felt safe. The hotels were good with delicious breakfasts each morning. Overall, I would recommend GVV to a friend or family member and I would personally book another vacation with GVV.

This was my first time planning a trip out of the country. I read previous reviews who had a good experience with Great Value Vacation. Our trip was amazing! The booking and reservations were easy to use with the vouchers provided. The staff was helpful. The only downside was I upgraded to have an automatic vehicle and they gave me a stick shift. It took a while to get sorted out but other than that I loved my trip! I will definitely use great value vacations again when I book my next trip. I opted for the additional wine tasting package and I did not regret it! I recommend adding those additional tours to get a more complete experience.

My wife and I recently booked our vacation through Great Value Vacations. We were a bit nervous to travel to Europe for the first time, but we are glad we did. Great Value Vacations took care of us. Great customer service. Seamless transactions. They booked the hotels and flights for us. All we had to worry about were the daily activities! I would highly recommended them. The hotels offered through the package were as advertised: nice and in great locations. The flights times were also convenient. The best part was the price. I am thankful for the experiences Great Value Vacation was able to provide for us!

Really enjoyed both of my trips through Great Value Vacations. I went on one family trip to Ireland (Adare villa, rental car with trips out to Dublin, Cliffs of Moher and more) . The villa was very comfortable with a kitchen, three bedrooms, and proximity to the local shops /restaurants. We were able to upgrade to an automatic car and had fun navigating to each location on our itinerary. The trip as planned by the agency still leaves time for exploring on your own and since we picked a trip with our own transportation, we had flexibility on which tours we wanted to do and when.

My second trip was a solo trip to Scotland. I like to go on vacation by myself sometimes, but it can be hard to find ones where you aren’t penalized for being on your own. This train trip to Edinburgh, Inverness, and Glasgow worked out really well for me. The hotels were all near the train stations and in safe areas (good lighting, plenty of people, etc.). I got a good mix of options for sightseeing in each city. The hop-on, hop-off bus circuit was especially useful for getting around Edinburgh. I also added an extra tour on in Glasgow to see nearby castles and a distillery and was very glad to have done so as the views of the countryside were amazing!

Summary: Have enjoyed my previous experiences and would definitely use again

Just got back from our trip to Italy booked through Great Value Vacations & was our dream come true! We could not have gone if it were not for their unbelievable rates. Each 4 Star Villa we stayed at was above and beyond our expectations...I cried after leaving each part of our journey. I am so glad I took a leap of faith and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND booking with them. Besides the Villas being beautiful, great locations, clean, and great staff; each place we arrived at actually said, "They said to give you a very nice room." (with a rate of just under $1,900 a piece for 9 nights not counting travel days at 4 stars Villas in Rome, Tuscany, & Venice including airfare and rent a car... a few friends told us to expect the worst rooms at the places we were staying ~ NOT the case! Our rooms had the best views...I could go on and on. Every step of the way was smooth with no worries whatsoever. Thanks again GVV! LOVED IT!
