While traveling through Melbourne and Sydney with my husband who was on a work trip, I had a few extra days to book a side trip to see Uluru, The Olgas and Kings Canyon. As a single female traveler, I felt completely comfortable on this trip - there were a few other single female travelers in their 20s and 30s like me, from the US, the UK and Australia. Completing the group were a few Dutch couples in their 60s. Although we were a diverse group, we got along wonderfully and had a fantastic time with each other. The tour itself was very organized and our guide was very knowledgeable about the best times to go to the attractions in order to best avoid the crowds. While Uluru was a special place that had a real mystic feeling to it, the highlight for me was actually visiting Kings Canyon. Meals could have been more appetizing, however pretty good for camping in the bush. Highly recommend this tour and Intrepid.

I'm 60yrs old and the other 6 travellers were all in their 20's. They were a wonderful fun group who connected so well. Cheif, our tour guide topped it off. He was a wonderful cook, incredibly knowledgeable and went out of his way to make sure everyone felt looked after. I especially liked the way he kept his eyes open for happenings in the wild eg wedge tailed eagles feeding, an obscure lizard, or wold horses. Things as an Australian I take for granted but were much appreciated by our visitors. _x000D_
It was a perfect time to be in the Outback weather wise. Cold at night but magnificent during the day._x000D_
Loved sleeping in the swags, sitting around the fire and learning so much about my own country that I wasn't aware of. Also interesting to hear about the journeys of the younger travellers and their perspective of Australia.

Itinerary

Day 1 Alice Springs/Kata Tjuta/Uluru

Today explore the 36 domes of Kata Tjuta, and as the sun begins to disappear below the horizon, take a glass of sparkling wine and watch the Rock's rich colours change against the backdrop of a blazing Red Centre sunset. Fall in love with the desert sun as it sets over Uluru, then enjoy a hearty meal before curling up in your permanent tent. Tonight you can sleep in a permanent tent or a swag (Aussie bedroll) under the stars. Note: Total driving time today is around 45 minutes. Total walking time is approximately one hour. INCLUDED ACTIVITIES: - National park fees - Kata Tjuta

Day 2 Uluru Sunrise

An early start this morning is rewarded with an Uluru sunrise. While the morning is fresh enjoy a walk around the base of the rock, gaining insights into the land and the local Mala Aboriginal people on an interpretive cultural walk with an Aboriginal guide. It's also a unique opportunity to share experiences, and to connect with and learn about the oldest culture on Earth. Once you’ve had lunch, perhaps purchase some Indigenous art and craft at the Uluru Cultural Centre. Travel onto the exclusive campsite within Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon), where the group will eat and sleep for the night. Note: Total driving time today is around three and a half hours. Take a break to stretch your legs and enjoy lunch in the outback town of Marla. Coober Pedy is known as ‘The Opal Capital of the World’ and was one of the locations used to film the third Mad Max movie. Due to extremely hot temperatures in the area most of the town is constructed underground, with residents living in cave-like houses carved into the hillsides. Upon arrival, take a guided tour of the town, underground opal mine and museum. End the day hanging out with some rescued joeys at Josephine’s Gallery and Kangaroo Orphanage. Guides All group trips are accompanied by a group leader. In Australia your group leader is also your driver, taking you from start to finish in a specialised vehicle. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Yor leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, organise the camp and cooking for camp or kitchen cooked meals (though passengers are required to help out) as well as recommend great local eating venues. They will also introduce you to our local friends along the way. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the areas visited on the trip, including historical, environmental, cultural and social aspects.
