While traveling through Melbourne and Sydney with my husband who was on a work trip, I had a few extra days to book a side trip to see Uluru, The Olgas and Kings Canyon. As a single female traveler, I felt completely comfortable on this trip - there were a few other single female travelers in their 20s and 30s like me, from the US, the UK and Australia. Completing the group were a few Dutch couples in their 60s. Although we were a diverse group, we got along wonderfully and had a fantastic time with each other. The tour itself was very organized and our guide was very knowledgeable about the best times to go to the attractions in order to best avoid the crowds. While Uluru was a special place that had a real mystic feeling to it, the highlight for me was actually visiting Kings Canyon. Meals could have been more appetizing, however pretty good for camping in the bush. Highly recommend this tour and Intrepid.

I'm 60yrs old and the other 6 travellers were all in their 20's. They were a wonderful fun group who connected so well. Cheif, our tour guide topped it off. He was a wonderful cook, incredibly knowledgeable and went out of his way to make sure everyone felt looked after. I especially liked the way he kept his eyes open for happenings in the wild eg wedge tailed eagles feeding, an obscure lizard, or wold horses. Things as an Australian I take for granted but were much appreciated by our visitors. _x000D_
It was a perfect time to be in the Outback weather wise. Cold at night but magnificent during the day._x000D_
Loved sleeping in the swags, sitting around the fire and learning so much about my own country that I wasn't aware of. Also interesting to hear about the journeys of the younger travellers and their perspective of Australia.

Itinerary

Day 1 Darwin - Mary River, via Litchfield National Park

Welcome to the Northern Territory! Your adventure begins in the tropical city of Darwin. Set off from Darwin and head south to Lichfield National Park, a huge sandstone plateau with dozens of waterfalls. Explore Florence Falls, Wangi Falls and the Buley Rockholes. After a picnic lunch, stroll through steamy rainforests and cool off with a dip in one of Litchfield's picturesque swimming holes. The day draws to an end with a wildlife cruise in the Mary River Wetlands, a network of waterways home to crocodiles and native bird species. Enjoy a meal before climbing into bed at the secluded Mary River campsite. All tents are twin-share and come with a proper bed. Note: Total driving time is about five and a half hours (approximately 400kms) Total walking time is approximately 45 minutes

Day 2 Kakadu National Park: Ubirr & Barramundi Gorge

After breakfast this morning, head to Kakadu National Park and discover ancient Aboriginal rock art in Ubirr. Your guide will lead an interpretive cultural walk through the numerous rock galleries, before you climb to the top of a lookout for views over the Nardab floodplain. Head to either Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) or Gunlom Falls and cool off with a dip in the plunge pools. Tonight, relax by the pool at the Kakadu campground and enjoy a group dinner. Note: Total driving time is about six and a half hours (approximately 550kms) Total walking time is approximately two hours

Day 3 Kakadu - Katherine

This morning you have the option to take a scenic flight over Kakadu (at your own expense). The flight takes in views over the Arnhem Land escarpment, vast flood plains and billabongs. Later spend time exploring Kakadu’s other major Aboriginal rock art site – Nourlangie (Burrunggui), while your guide provides a glimpse into how the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people live. After lunch head south and stop to visit the historic gold-mining centre of Pine Creek. Stop for a quick dip at Maguk or Gunlom Falls, before continuing on to Katherine, where you'll settle in for the night at a private campsite near Nitmiluk National Park (Katherine Gorge). Note: Total driving time is about five and a half hours (approximately 400kms) Total walking time is approximately one hour

Day 4 Katherine Gorge - Darwin

Depending on the season, head out on a morning cruise along the inky waters of Katherine Gorge, or canoe between red rock walls that are up to 70 metres high (both of these activities are optional and at your own expense). This 23 million-year-old landscape was formed by the Katherine River, which flows from Arnhem Land out to the Timor Sea. After lunch we head to the beautiful Edith falls for one last refreshing swim in the huge plunge pool before we hit the road back to Darwin, where your adventure comes to an end on arrival. Perhaps enjoy one final group dinner in town and toast to your adventure with your new friends. Note: Total driving time is about five hours (approximately 400kms) Total walking time is approximately one hour

Guides All group trips are accompanied by a group leader. In Australia your group leader is also your driver, taking you from start to finish in a specialised vehicle. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Yor leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, organise the camp and cooking for camp or kitchen cooked meals (though passengers are required to help out) as well as recommend great local eating venues. They will also introduce you to our local friends along the way. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the areas visited on the trip, including historical, environmental, cultural and social aspects.
