Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Torres del Paine National Park

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Hike: Refugio Paine Grande Refugio Grey

Total Distance: 11 Kilometers / 6.8 Miles

Average Time: 4 Hours

Early in the morning you will depart on a bus from Puerto Natales to Torres del Paine. The trip to the park entrance at Laguna Amarga is approximately two hours. After arriving to and registering yourself in the park you will take the catamaran across Lake Pehoe before you begin a four-hour hike through a small forest and then along Lake Grey. Most days this section of the park is very windy, due to openness provided by Lake Grey, Glacier Grey and the Southern Ice Field.

After about two hours of hiking you will get your first glimpse of Glacier Grey. You will continue hiking for two more hours until arriving to Camp Grey where you will spend the night. There are two optional excursions you can take today in the afternoon or tomorrow in the morning while at Refugio Grey — ice hiking on Glacier Grey or kayaking on Lake Grey. Let us know if you are interested and we can make reservations!

Day 2: Hiking and Camping along the Shores of Lake Pehoe

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Hike: Refugio Grey Refugio Paine Grande

Total Distance: 11 Kilometers / 6.8 Miles

Average Time: 4 Hours

In the morning you will have an energizing breakfast and then prepare to hike again. If you would like you can continue past the camp with a day pack for a spectacular view of the glacier and a chance to cross one of the park’s famous suspension bridges. Upon return to Camp Grey, collect all of your belongings and begin your hike back towards Paine Grande where you will camp along the shore of Lake Pehoe.

Day 3: Explore the French Valley

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Hike: Refugio Paine Grande Refugio Cuernos

Total Distance: 17.3 Kilometers / 10.7 Miles

Average Time: 7 Hours

Shortly after breakfast you will begin hiking towards Campamento Italiano. This camp is 2.5 hours away. Once you arrive to Campamento Italiano you can leave your large pack and continue into the French Valley with just a small daypack.

You will hike across a moraine and through a forest until you come to a clearing. Here you will be blown away by both the wind and the spectacular views of Lake Nordenskjold, Skottberg and Pehoe behind you, the hanging French Glacier just ahead of you and by many other peaks. After leaving the lookout you will return to gather your large pack and continue another 2.5 hours to Camp Cuernos where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Climb Almirante Nieto and View Lake Nordenskjold

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Hike: Refugio Cuernos Refugio Chileno

Total Distance: 11 Kilometers / 6.8 Miles

Average Time: 4.5 Hours

In the morning you will have breakfast and then prepare to hike again. You will leave Cuernos, located on the shore of Lake Nordenskjold and at the foot of the Cuernos and walk for four hours towards Refugio Camp; Camping Chileno, located in the Asencio Valley.

Along the way you will pass by Lake Nordenskjold and begin your hike up Almirante Nieto, a mountain with incredible views of Lake Nordenskjold and the Asencio Valley. There will be a few rivers you will pass over by hopping across rocks. As you hike you will catch glimpses of glaciers and the mountaintops hovering over you. Finally, you will arrive to Camp Chileno where you will have dinner and sleep.

Day 5: Vist the Famous Towers — Las Torres

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Hike: Chileno Las Torres Lookout Hotel Las Torres

Total Distance: 15.5 Kilometers / 9.6 Miles

Average Time: 6.5 Hours

This morning you will continue your walk up Almirante Nieto, first hiking about an hour through a dense Lenga forest. After leaving the forest, you will approach a moraine and climb to see the amazing granite peaks known as the Torres.

After a bit of time admiring the view you will return back to Camp Chileno to pick up your belongings and hike to the foot of Almirante Nieto where you will first catch a shuttle to the park entrance and then catch a bus back to Puerto Natales.

Things we LOVED: First- the weather did NOT live up to the wet, wind blasty nightmare we were expecting. Too gorgeous nearly the whole time. November is a great time for all the flowers and lovely forest smells. The camping in Cuernos- very different, but super cool. The choice of not missing the French Valley was perfect. Jeff still got some great pics of the Torres on arriving in the park. The Grey II cruise- a bit of luxury for sweaty hikers and they had the best Pisco Sours we had anywhere. Camping Serrano was great- we got a spot right by the river. Kayaking with German(Tutravesia) was super fun. Erratic Rock II was nearly perfect, even with Marcela singing in the kitchen till 2 am. Mesita Grande was the best pizza of our whole trip and they had a microbrewed local beer for Jeff. We went twice! Inlandsis was very nice and the girls there we super helpful. It smelled like baking bread in the lobby every day! Needless to say, Lautaro was our favorite hostel. Belen and Dario are so lovely. We also got a little unexpected Argentine protest excitement. Nothing dangerous, but definitely new to us (booming explosives outside while I was in the shower at Lautero). Because of the long daylight and great weather, we got to go bouldering every day in Chalten after the hikes. If we come back, we’ll stay there even longer! We made loads of great new friends everywhere.

All went well with the trip. We are very satisfied with the assistance offered and pleasantly surprised with the locations to stay and variety of activities accomplished. As independent/active travelers, the itinerary gave us various ways to experience Chile and Argentina’s Patagonia at our own pace.

We had a short time window (12 days) and of course a desire to see/do it all. Laura was extremely patient as we reset priorities and made dozens of changes to our proposed itinerary. Laura helped identify the best hostels, bus schedules, flights, and private transport where appropriate. All the necessary vouchers, tickets, and even the butane canisters for our stove were ready and waiting for us when we arrived! We visited Buenos Aires, Punta Tombo, Valdes, Perito Moreno Glacier, hiked 3 days via Cerro Torre/Fitz Roy, and 5 days via the “W” at Torres del Paine. Each connection worked perfectly, and we comfortably saw far more than we would have had we booked one of the 14 or even 16 day adventure packages I saw elsewhere. We also spent considerably less money, and avoided the challenges of hiking in a group.
We were lucky enough to hike the W at the same time as Laura’s husband David was guiding for another couple and really appreciated the extra assistance David was able to provide. David picked out a “picture post card perfect” side hike on our drive out of Torres del Paine, and was a wealth of information on flora, fauna, and geology. Finally, I left my wallet on a bus the last day, and Laura was able to locate it, recover it, and ship it back to me via express mail

Absolutely superb trip. I would put this tour up there with the best I have ever done. The scenery is otherworldly and travelling in a small group (a driver, an English-speaking guide and 5 tourists) is perfect.
Would recommend to everyone who considering doing this. Yes, the accommodation is basic, it gets very cold at night (I was there in early October) and there are a couple of very early starts, but it is all part of the adventure!
I only have 2 negative comments:
1. Our guide was in a bad mood on the final day (we had our suspicions as to why this might be, but they were only suspicions, so it wouldn’t be right to mention them here) and was quite rude to the whole group – in particular to the 2 Swiss people, for no reason whatsoever.
2. Our guide insisted on taking the salt flats perspective photos with our phones – because “it is too complicated with cameras”, but this means we got rubbish photos, with either the foreground or the background out of focus. (My advice is to use your camera. Set it on aperture priority and use a high f-stop number – at least 9 – and set your focus to ‘wide’, not ‘centre’. Finally, don’t put the camera too close to whatever is in the foreground and don’t zoom. (OK, maybe he was right – that does sound a bit complicated, but if you do it right, you’ll get amazing photos!)
Finally, I’m glad I’d spent 3 days in San Pedro to acclimatise before doing this tour, as the altitude didn’t affect me at all.
Anyway, book this tour – you won’t regret it.

What an amazing Trip! Really appreciate all of the work that went into making this trip run smoothly and how everything was organized and efficient from the moment we arrived in Puerto Natales. We (my roommate and I) booked this trip hoping for a great experience, and it definitely delivered.
We were met at the beautiful hostel in PN by wonderful staff members who had our room ready and offered great advice on things to do that night. The next day, we met up with Laura, owner of the tour company, at their office and were provided with all of the passes, maps, information and tips you could ever need for the O-Circuit hike. We met our guide, Carlos, who has over 9 years of experience hiking in Patagonia. He answered all of our questions and made us feel ready for the trip. The next day, we took the bus to the park entrance and then the ferry to the first campsite. The hike is BREATHTAKING, and worth every blister, ache or sore you might experience during the hike.
I would definitely recommend the O-Circuit, as it gives you the full experience of how large Patagonia is. It was a perfect mix of hiking on our own for the first 4 days at our own pace, and then having the guide to lead us on the north side of the circuit, which is definitely not as well marked and has harsher climates and hikes. During the whole trip, all of our lodging, entrance fees, campsite fees and logistics were handled and delivered smoothly. All we had to do was hike our gear from one site to the next, show our passes and passports, and drink some delicious Austral.
This was a trip of a lifetime, and definitely worth it to have all of the logistics, including all of your food on the hike, already taken care of and planned out for you. We’re very thankful to Keteka for helping organize all of this, and would recommend this trip to anyone!
