  • Opportunity to sail South Shetland Islands , while enjoying the company of sea birds
  • Explore King George Island

Short Description

With this promotion you can have a taste of Antarctica for as low as $2,995 per person. Short and inexpensive, our Antarctica Express Air-Cruises offer a visit to Cape Horn and a quick visit to Antarctica at a very affordable price. They combine perfectly with land tours in Argentina and Chile. The Antarctic Express program includes the ship cruise from Ushuaia to Antarctica with a stop at Cape Horn, a visit to the South Shetland Islands and a flight from King George Island back to Punta Arenas. You are invited to a unique experience that will take you to one of the most remote places on earth, the coldest, highest, windiest, driest, and most inhospitable continent – Antarctica.  The flight to Punta Arenas eliminates the time-consuming, and often rough, ship crossing of the Drake Passage, thereby making the most of your time in Antarctica.

Small ship cruises usually have a max passenger count of 500. The primary purpose of these trips is to spend time off the vessel in local ports (e.g. Mediterranean) or experiencing nature (e.g Galapagos or Antarctica). Cabins can vary from budget to luxury.

Itinerary

Day 1: Ushuaia

Board the vessel (Ocean Nova or Hebridean Sky) in Ushuaia and sail along the Beagle Channel towards Puerto Williams, Chile, the southernmost town in the world. Explore the surroundings before setting sail to Cape Horn. Cross the mythical waters of the Drake Passage and explore one of the most spectacular places on earth, the coldest, highest, windiest, driest, and remotest continent -Antarctica.

Ocean Nova is a modern and comfortable vessel. She was built in Denmark in 1992 to sail the ice-choked waters of Greenland, and her ice-strengthened hull is ideally suited for expedition travel in Antarctica. Ocean Nova has capacity for 68 passengers accommodated in comfortable outside cabins, all with private facilities, including dedicated single, twin and triple cabins.

The Hebridean Sky is a small, all-suite expedition vessel. She was built in 1992 and has gone under an extensive, multi-million dollar renovation in 2016. With an ice-strengthened hull, Hebridean Sky offers an exclusive and stylish base for adventurous exploration in Antarctica. Although the vessel has capacity for up to 110 guests, it will accommodate a maximum of 71 travelers on Air-Cruises, further increasing the comfort of guests. The ship offers six different categories of accommodation. All Suites are spacious, with premium appointments throughout. Each Suite features a sitting area, a private bathroom, a picture window, and two twin beds that, on request, can be joined to form a queen-size bed. Several Suites include private balconies accessed via a sliding door. Triple cabins feature a sofa bed. Public areas include “The Club” (panorama lounge), a library, a lounge with audio-visual facilities, a dining room, a wraparound Sun Deck with Jacuzzi, an exercise room, a medical clinic and an elevator serving all passenger decks. The ship has a fleet of 10 Zodiac boats that are used for exploration in Antarctica.

All meals and guided excursions are included.

Day 2: Cape Horn

After an overnight crossing of Nassau Bay, you awake in full view of legendary Cape Horn! Weather permitting, board a Zodiac and be one of the few privileged adventurers to step foot on this famous and rarely visited island. Back on board, set sail towards Antarctica and cross the famous passage named in honor of Sir Francis Drake, the great 16th century British explorer.

Day 3: Drake Passage

As you sail through the Drake Passage en route to King George Island, in the South Shetland Islands, attend an engaging program of lectures and presentations. In the company of expert guides, watch for wildlife from the glass-enclosed lounge or from the outside decks. You may spot magnificent sea birds, such as albatrosses and petrels, as well as different species of whales on their way south to Antarctica.

Day 4: South Shetland Islands

After crossing the Antarctic Convergence, the environment changes noticeably. Keep your camera ready, as this is the time to watch for the first icebergs and the first sight of Antarctic land. Reaching the South Shetland Islands, sail in ice-filled bays, while enjoying the company of sea birds, penguins, seals and whales. Board a Zodiac for your first memorable shore visit to a penguin colony. Taking advantage of the endless Antarctic daylight, exploration will continue well into the evening.

Day 5: King George Island

Upon reaching King George Island, disembark at Fildes Bay and explore the area, such as the Chilean Base Frei and the Russian Base Bellingshausen. Bid farewell to Antarctica before boarding the flight back to Punta Arenas, Chile. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. (Note: Meals in Punta Arenas are not included in the program.)

Day 6: Punta Arenas

Hotel pickup and transfer to the Punta Arenas Airport.

Unfortunately two days after our arrival there was an eruption of serious civic unrest. Lost worlds and their local agency were extremely efficient in rearranging our schedule so that we could experience as much as possible while insuring our safety.

This is my second time traveling with Lost World and once again they did a great job. Somehow they manage to use reliable, helpful people who show up exactly on time and are a pleasure to be with. Our flight was delayed 14 hours and we landed at 1am unsure how we'd be getting to our lodging, but the driver and guide were there waiting for us. Working with Andrew planning the trip is easy as he listens to what you want and also offers his own suggestions. Our family trip entailed a quick stop in Buenos Aires then 6 days in Patagonia and we loved all of it. We had guides two days and the rest of the time we were on our own. I will definitely use them again.

Lost World Adventures helped me plan an amazing trip to the Peruvian Andes. Working with Andrew was a breeze, and our trip was perfect in every detail. Tour guides let us know each day what to expect the following day and when/where to meet them, and our luggage was transported for us when we went off on an overnight adventure. Highly recommended!
