Itinerary

Day 1: Santiago de Chile

Meals: Breakfast

Upon arrival into Chile you will be met by your bilingual guide who will transfer you to your Santiago hotel. For morning arrivals you will have a free afternoon and evening to explore on your own.

Hotel Orly is a small, boutique style hotel which has 28 rooms. Once a private mansion home, the hotel is superbly situated in one of the city's more exclusive areas, Providencia. Everything you may want to see is close by- shops, restaurants, downtown, museums, banks and the cable car up San Cristobal Hill. And should you require any assistance the staff is extremely helpful in pointing you in the right direction.

Day 2: Modern City Tour with San Cristóbal Hill

You will depart with your guide from your Santiago hotel and head to the exclusive El Golf Neighborhood, home to the financial district and many modern buildings. A little further to the west you will find Providencia, an area with wide streets, lovely homes, and a “French feel."

Proceed through the main avenue of the city, Alameda del Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins, passing by the San Francisco Church, the oldest monument in the country. You will visit and walk around the culturally vibrant Barrio Lastarria, with the option to visit , museums, theaters, antique fairs, cafes, bookstores, and small specialty shops. From here, you will be taken to the neoclassical La Moneda Palace that is now the government palace, and take a walk along the “Plaza de la Constitución.”

Next, stroll around the Central Market, one of the main attractions in historical downtown. Its beauty lies in the architecture of melted iron, the variety and quality of its seafood, and the authentic atmosphere provided by the tenants.

A little further, cross the Mapocho River and head straight towards the Bellavista Neighborhood, the lively core of arts and nightlife, where pubs, cultural centers and international gastronomy can be found. From here, ascend the San Cristóbal Hill, a spur of the Andes marching into Santiago, where the famous Virgin Mary statue overlooks the city. Conclude this day with a panoramic view of the city and the majestic Andes in the background. Then, enjoy a downhill ride by funicular.

Afterward, you will return to your hotel in Santiago.

Day 3: Valparaiso, Vina del Mar and Isla Negra

You will begin your journey from Santiago by heading towards the coast to Isla Negra, where one of Pablo Neruda´s three beautiful houses in Chile is situated. Neruda, a lover of the sea and all maritime things, built the home to resemble a ship with low ceilings, creaking wooden floors, and narrow passageways. A passionate collector, every room has a different collection of bottles, ship figureheads, maps, ships in bottles, and an impressive array of shells, which are located in their own "Under the Sea" room. Neruda and his wife Matilde Urrutia are buried there, with a clear view of their beach.

Leaving Isla Negra, you will continue north towards the beautiful city of Viña del Mar, also known as the Garden City, for a visit of its main streets and avenues, museums, and its large homes and palaces.

Later, head along the coast towards Reñaca, one of Chile’s most famous beach towns to enjoy a bit of sunshine and nature! Around the bay is Valparaíso, a busy port city with charming hills. Enjoy various local landmarks that give the town its unique character.

Day 4: Santiago de Chile- Calama- San Pedro de Atacama

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Calama. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the town of San Pedro de Atacama, the gateway to the beautiful and diverse Atacama desert. You will be taken to your all-inclusive ecolodge.

Set in the world's driest desert and surrounded by incredible natural wonders, the Cumbres San Pedro de Atacama Hotel was is a deluxe hotel designed to offer customized programs where guests can enjoy the full experience offered by the Atacama desert from the comfort of a remarkable hotel. Days to explore the Atacama on guided excursions.

Day 7: San Pedro de Atacama- Punta Arenas- Torres Del Paine

Accommodation: Overnight at EcoCamp Patagonia

Transfer to the Calama Airport for your flight to Punta Arenas with connection in Santiago.

You will be met at the airport upon arrival by lodge representatives and transferred to Torres del Paine National Park.  En route you make a couple of stops: first in Puerto Natales, a small, lively town on the shores of "Seno de Ultima Esperanza", where you enjoy a hearty local lunch; second at Cueva de Milodon, a massive prehistoric cave where the remains of a giant ground sloth were discovered in the 1890’s.

The whole journey is very scenic, with plenty of wild birds and wonderful landscapes to be seen.  The day ends with our arrival and overnight stay at EcoCamp Patagonia, nestled in the heart of the park with a view of the Torres. During summer the sun sets around 11pm, so upon arrival there's plenty of light to admire the Patagonian steppe with its guanacos and snow-peaked mountain horizon.

Overnight at EcoCamp Patagonia, located in the heart of Torres del Paine. Accommodations are in tented igloo-type domes built to minimize the environmental impact while providing a comfortable setting and maximum exposure to nature. Your Patagonia Wildlife Safari program includes all meals and specified guided excursions operated on fixed days of the week and offered to all guests of the Domes. Private excursions can be arranged on any day of the week at an additional charge.

Days 8-10: Torres del Paine

Days for guided excursions of the park.

Day 11: Punta Arenas- Puerto Montt- Puerto Varas

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: Overnight at the Cabaña del Lago Hotel, 3 nights.

Transfer back to Puntas Arenas for your flight to Puerto Montt. From the airport you will transfer to Puerto Varas for a few days of exploring the Lakes region of Chile, renowned for its pristine and spectacular landscapes.

Overnight at the Cabaña del Lago Hotel. The hotel sits on the edge of Lake Llanquihue, and all rooms face the water. The hotel affords amazing views of the lake, the city of Puerto Varas (a 10-minute walk) and Osorno Volcano. Hotel services include restaurant, bar, an indoor heated pool, a 6-person Jacuzzi, a spa, and free internet access for guests in two comfortable areas.

Day 12: Chiloe Island

You will be picked up at your hotel and head south on the Ruta 5 Sur Highway. Take the ferry to Chiloé Island from Pargua, a town located in the continental limit of Chile. Sail across the Chacao Channel for approximately 30 minutes and arrive in Chacao, a small village doorway to the island.

From Caulín, take the road to Ancud, and visit this city famous for its market considered the best infrastructure in Chiloé. It was an international seaport until the end of the 19th century, with narrow streets lined with commercial houses and classical Chilote architecture. The Regional Museum is great to visit and to learn more about the island history. Then visit the San Antonio Fort, erected in 1770, South America’s last point to where the Spanish flag flew.

Continue your journey to the Pacific Coast until arriving at the Puñuhuil bay. Here, experience a picturesque sailing to the Islands in Puñihuil, from where you may observe a penguin colony.

Day 13: Lakes Region- Osorno Volcano & Petrohue Falls

The Chile Lake District possesses many incredible sights, and one is the the Osorno Volcano painted in the back of the Llanquihue Lake, with occasional clouds towering it. Another is the blue turquoise waters running through the volcanic formations of the Petrohué Falls. Today you will see both from a variety of perspectives including the top of the Osorno Volcano on this full day journey through the most naturally striking landmarks of Chile's lake region.

Day 14: Puerto Montt- Santiago- International Departure

Today you will fly back to Santiago and connect your international departure.

This is my second time traveling with Lost World and once again they did a great job. Somehow they manage to use reliable, helpful people who show up exactly on time and are a pleasure to be with. Our flight was delayed 14 hours and we landed at 1am unsure how we'd be getting to our lodging, but the driver and guide were there waiting for us. Working with Andrew planning the trip is easy as he listens to what you want and also offers his own suggestions. Our family trip entailed a quick stop in Buenos Aires then 6 days in Patagonia and we loved all of it. We had guides two days and the rest of the time we were on our own. I will definitely use them again.

Lost World Adventures helped me plan an amazing trip to the Peruvian Andes. Working with Andrew was a breeze, and our trip was perfect in every detail. Tour guides let us know each day what to expect the following day and when/where to meet them, and our luggage was transported for us when we went off on an overnight adventure. Highly recommended!
