Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Lima; Inc:

Welcome to Peru! At your arrival, the Machu Travel staff will pick you up from Lima International Airport and will lead you to your hotel in Miraflores or San Isidro neighborhood.

You will have the rest of the day at leisure to relax or explore the city.

Day 2: Lima Tour Tradicion and Modernity

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Today, in the morning or the afternoon, our guide and transfer will pick you up from your hotel to start your Luxury city tour in a private transportation.

Called "Ciudad de los Reyes" (City of Kings), it was founded by the Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro on January 18th , 1535 on Rímac Valley in which several pre-Inca cultures had been developed and then dominated by the Inca Empire. Then will take you to the San Martin Plaza, where you will walk through the busy and fascinating Jirón de la Union, (Union Street), which leads to the Plaza de Armas.

In Lima you will find imposing colonial monuments, museums in which you will be able to recreate a complete image of the millennial Peruvian past in its archaeology, history and art.

Then you will cross to the modern part of the Capital, San Isidro and Miraflores, where you will enjoy the famous Peruvian Gastronomy.

Leisure afternoon to go shopping.

Day 3: Sacred Valley / Awanacancha and Pisaq Indian Market

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

The Day will begin with a warm welcome in the Cusco Airport.

This trip takes only one hour and 1 fifteen minutes and at your arrival in Cusco better known as “Archaeological Capital of America ", you will be greeted and welcomed by one of the Machu Travel representative.

Today, the Sacred Valley of the Incas tour will be waiting for you, in the first place you will have a guided tour through the exceptional project of Awanakancha (quechua word that means big place where people weave) where you will watch how people produce textiles–following their ancestors techniques.

Visit the archaeological Complex of Pisaq, including ornate palaces and temples, walking close to the cliffs edges to see incredible panoramas.

Delight a delicious lunch in the heart of the Sacred Valley.

Then, we will continue through the valley until finally arrive to your hotel surrounded by gorgeous scenery.

Day 4: Ollantaytambo / Maras / Moray

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, our tour guide and private transport are going to pick you up from your hotel to start our private tour to Ollantaytambo.

Near the stunning pastoral scenery, rises Ollantaytambo Fortress; a town that has been the cradle of the Inca civilization for centuries.

Now it is time to lunch, be witness of one particular Social Project called Niños del Arco Iris and their BBQ lunch, bon appetite.

Then you will have a mystical meeting around the Enigmatic circled terraces of Moray, an ingenious system of climatological adaptation which was used as an Incan laboratory to acclimatize crops.

Behold the wonderful treasures of the Andes; be surprised by one of earth’s most surreal sights Maras salt mine; located northwest of the town of Maras where you will find around 2000 small wells, that still today local people use to provide themselves with salt

Finally, you will be taken to your hotel surrounded by spectacular landscapes in the Sacred Valley.

Day 5: Inca Trail – Km 82 Piscacucho to Wayllabamba

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Today, very early in the morning, you will start the mighty Inca Trail. Your Tour Guide and private transport will pick you up from your hotel to take you to KM82 – Piscacucho which is 20 minutes away from Ollantaytambo.

Here you will meet your chef and support staff who will accompany you for the whole trek. From KM 82 (2700m, 8850ft) you will make your way to the Wayllabamba Campsite.

The first two hours of the trek is a lightly paced climb until you reach Miskay, a beautiful area where your chef and porters will have lunch ready and waiting for you. After lunch, you will have 3-4 hours (depending on pace) of steady uphill climbing.

Along the way, you will have stunning views of the first Incan ruin of the Inca trail named Llactapata which is a site that has been used primarily for agricultural production.

Here, you will have a great opportunity to stop and take some photos and learn about the History.

At the end of the day, you will arrive at the village of Wayllabamba where the chef and porters will reward you by having your tent set up and your dinner ready and waiting for you.

Then you will have a rest of time to relax and wait until night falls.

Maximum Altitude: 3,000 m/10,824 ft.

Minimum Altitude: 2,680 m/8,790 ft.

Distance Travelled: 12 km approx.

Approximate Walking Time: 6-7 hours

Day 6: Inca Trail – Wayllabamba to Pacaymayo

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Early in the morning, you will be awoken with hot water in front of your tent. Then you will enjoy a tasty breakfast to get you ready for the next challenge ahead.

Today, you will start from an altitude of 3000m or 9850ft and climb up for over five hours to reach an altitude of 4200m or 13800ft at Dead Woman’s Pass, the highest point of the Inca trail where you will have a stunning panoramic view of the Andean mountains and its surroundings.

After completing the toughest part of the Inca Trail, you have an hour to descent before reaching to the next stop where your chef and porters will have prepared lunch.

After lunch, you have another hour descent before reaching to Pacaymayo Campsite where you have the rest of the day to relax.

In the evening, you will enjoy an energetic and delicious dinner cooked by your chef.

Then you have the rest of time to relax and wait until nightfall.

Maximum Altitude: 4,200 m/13,776 ft.

Minimum Altitude: 3,000 m/9,840 ft.

Distance Travelled: 12 km approx.

Approximate Walking Time: 7-8 hours.

Day 7: Inca Trail – Pacaymayo to Wiñaywayna

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

First you will have breakfast, and then you will continue hiking through the Inca Trail.

Our way will be composed of several archaeological sites. First you will reach to the second pass named Runkuracay (3900m or 12800ft) you will enter the beautiful circular walled ruin along the way. This place has been a stable resting place for couriers and their animals during their way on the Inca Trail.

From here, you will also have a stunning view of the surrounding mountains such as Salkantay and Veronica snowy peaks.

After reaching this pass, the rest of the day is mostly downhill, following the amazing original path constructed during the Incan period and passing through original tunnels.

You will be able to visit Sayaqmarca considered as an inaccessible old Incan town that sits on top of a sheer cliff.

After Sayaqmarca, you will follow the Inca trail to the next beautiful ruin of Phuyupatamarka which was believed to have been an important religious site that contained sacred baths for ceremonial purposes.

You will have a delicious lunch here.

Then you will have to go down stairs until arriving to Wiñaywayna where is going to be our next campsite where you will have the rest of the evening to relax.

Once there, the chef will prepare an exquisite dinner before you go to bed.

Maximum Altitude: 3,750 m/ 12,300 ft.

Minimum Altitude: 2,700 m/8,856 ft.

Distance Travelled: 16 Km approx.

Approximate Walking Time: 7-8 hours

Day 8: Inca Trail –Wiñaywayna to Machu Picchu

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Today, you will have to wake up early in the morning before continuing along the Inca Trail. Today everybody will have to walk upwards for an hour and a half to reach the Sun Gate, ‘Intipunku’, where you will have finally arrived to Machu Picchu.

Congratulations, you will have officially completed the Inca Trail and be rewarded with a majestic view of Machu Picchu, the ‘Lost City of the Incas’.

Here, you will overlook the entire site of Machu Picchu and the beautiful mountain of Huayna Picchu. Besides, you will have a short downhill walk until Machu Picchu. At this sacred Incan site, you will learn about the history and visit the truly remarkable Temples.

You will also see the aqueducts and houses while you are learning some interesting facts about the Incan Sacred Terraces. After your guided tour in Machu Picchu, you will have plenty of time to explore this truly magnificent site on your own.

You could even visit the Incan Bridge, a secret entrance used only by the Incan Army. Optionally you may climb up to Huayna Picchu Mountain; there are only 400 spaces daily, so you must book it in advance with us.

In case you decided to climb it. In the afternoon, you will return to Aguas Calientes where you will spend a night in a hotel.

Maximum Altitude: 2,700 m / 8,856 ft.

Minimum Altitude: 2,400 m / 7,872 ft. (Machu Picchu)

Distance Travelled: 8 Km approx. plus exploration of Machu Picchu

Approximate Walking Time: 6-7 hours

Day 9: Day at Leisure in Machu Picchu

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Today you have the chance to visit and explore Machu Picchu again on your own.

So you will be able to be joined in one of many short trekking options such as the Sun Gate hike to get an impressive view of Machu Picchu Citadel or visit the Incan Bridge.

However, there is a program that allows you to climb up to the summit of Huayna Picchu at either 7:00hrs or 10:00hrs. Nevertheless, there are also other alternative trekking options around Aguas Calientes town such as the easy walk to Mandor waterfalls or the most challenging Putucusi Mountain hike to get an impressive view of Machu Picchu citadel from another angle.

In the afternoon, you have lunch in a restaurant nearby the train station.

After lunch you will have to board the Vistadome train back to Ollantaytambo where our staff will be waiting for you in order to escort you to your Hotel in Cusco city.

Day 10: Cusco

Meals: Breakfast

Today will be one of the lasts days in Cusco and after breakfast at your hotel our tour guide and private transportation are going to pick you up to start our private city tour of Cusco.

Our first place to visit will be the Main Cathedral which is a colonial building located on the main square. Then you will continue your tour visiting the Qoricancha Temple, which is a colonial building, its Inca walls are just amazing. These both places are located in Cusco’s downtown.

Following your tour, you will leave the city to visit the amazing complex of Sacsayhuaman, which continues to be a very important religious and ceremonial site of the Incan culture.

You will be amazed by the grand architectural achievements of the Incan civilization and be impressed when imagining how stones were moved and then fitted. Some uniquely shaped stone have a weight of aproximately 70 tons. So perfectly together and without “modern technology”.

Then you will be escorted to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 11: Farewell

Depends on what time your flight departs from Cusco; our staff will prick up and escort you to the airport in a private transport. Once you arrive at the airport, our Andean Footstep and Inca Trail program concludes.
