Itinerary

Day : 1 Johannesburg

Johannesburg. Welcome to South Africa! An airport transfer is provided by the Safari Club Lodge (our pre tour accommodation) which is close to the airport. Spend the remains of the day at leisure. This evening you will meet your guide and the rest of the group at our pre departure meeting at 18h00.

Day : 2 Graskop

Departing from Johannesburg we head east towards Mpumalanga. A landscape characterized by mountains, panoramic passes, valleys, rivers, waterfalls and forests. We spend the night in the town of Graskop, a small forestry town situated on the Drakensberg Escarpment at the start of the panorama route and the gateway to Kruger National Park.

Day : 3-4 Kruger National Park

Graskop - Kruger National Park. This morning we start with a scenic drive along the Panorama Route. The most spectacular stretch is the Blyde River Canyon, which is the 3rd largest canyon in the world. We make a stop at Bourke’s Luck Potholes to view these incredible eroded rock formations. In the afternoon we head into Kruger National Park. Big game country - exciting morning and afternoon game drives provide us with excellent opportunities to encounter wildlife. Spot lion, elephant, rhino and other animals in one of the last African wildernesses. Should you wish to partake on a game drive in an open game-viewer vehicle, these are available for an additional fee.

Day : 5-6 Swaziland

Kruger National Park - Swaziland. The mountainous Kingdom of Swaziland, lead by King Mswati III, is one of 3 monarchies in Africa. We spend two nights in Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, Swaziland’s pioneer conservation area situated in the ‘Valley of Heaven’. Apart from abundant bird life, there are a number of animal species to be seen including hippo, giraffe, crocodile, zebra and antelope. On day 6 we will visit the Umphakatsi Chief's homestead where we can try our hand at grinding maize, plaiting mountain grass and singing with the children.

Day : 7-8 Zululand and Hluhuwe

Swaziland - Zululand. After visiting a craft market en-route, we re-enter South Africa via Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal. The following day we make our way to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve, during a game drive in our tour vehicle. Hluhluwe-iMfolozi is the oldest game reserve in Africa and is a safe haven to both the endangered black and white rhino.

Our afternoon finds us in The iSimangaliso Wetland Park, which was listed as South Africa’s first World Heritage Site. Here we enjoy a boat cruise on the St Lucia estuary, getting up close to the hippos and crocodiles that inhabit the lake.

Day : 9-10 Drakensberg Mountains

Hluhuwe Game reserve - Drakensburg Mountains. Moving further inland, we spend the next two nights at the Cavern, which is situated in 3000 hectares of private mountain reserve, adjacent to the Royal Natal National Park – part of another World Heritage Site, namely the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park. The main features of the park are the Drakensberg Amphitheatre, a rock wall 5km long by up to 1200m high, Mont-Aux-Sources peak where the Orange and Tugela rivers have their source, and the 947m Tugela Falls, the world's second highest waterfall. Time will be spent exploring this scenic area on guided walks.

Day : 11-12 Lesotho pony trekking

Drakensburg - Lesotho. Today we cross the border into the Kingdom of Lesotho, the southernmost landlocked country in the world, rich in natural beauty, flora, fauna and cultural heritage. Here we have a chance to experience traditional Basotho life, a nation with solid traditions, beliefs and customs. No visit to Lesotho would be complete without a pony trek and the next day we take a ride on the transport of choice for most Basotho, as these sturdy animals handle the narrow trails better than any 4x4 can!

Day : 13 Cradock

Lesotho - Cradock. We leave the beauty of Lesotho behind us and cross the border back into South Africa and drive to the historical Karoo town of Cradock, founded in 1814 as a frontier stronghold. Best known for its natural sulphur spring, Cradock is a place of literary legends and the original part of the town is graced with some of the finest buildings.

Day : 14 Addo Elephant National Park

Cradock - Addo Elephant National Park. A benchmark conservation success, Addo Elephant National Park offers a unique wildlife habitat, famous for the Addo elephants and the remaining population of the flightless dung beetle. We spend the afternoon on a game drive in our tour vehicle, in search of elephant, black rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard. Additional game drives conducted in open game-viewer vehicles are available at an extra expense. An evening spent at the floodlit waterhole allows us to watch the nocturnal animals and listen to their calls.

Day : 15-16 Tsitsikamma National Park

Addo Elephant National Park - Tsitsikamma. On day 15 after breakfast our journey takes us to a region of startling beauty along South Africa’s southern coastline, known as the Garden Route. We spend two nights in the Storms River Village, in the heart of the Tsitsikamma Forest. We will take a leisurely hike along one of the short trails, which allow you to explore the coastal bush and rocky shoreline. There is also an option to plunge off the world’s highest bungee jump at the Bloukrans River (optional pay locally).

Day : 17 Knysna & Oudtshoorn

Tsitsikamma - Oudtshoorn. After visiting ‘The Heads’ in Knysna, a town nestled on a tranquil lagoon we travel over the Outeniqua Mountains into the Little Karoo and enjoy an nteractive and educational oyster tasting experience. In Oudtshoorn we visit the famous Cango Caves with their impressive ancient stalagmites and stalactites before we overnight in the ostrich capital of the world.

Day : 18-19 Stellenbosch & Cape Town

Oudtshoorn - Cape Town. En-route to Cape Town, we visit the pretty university town of Stellenbosch, for wine tasting and a cellar tour. Once in Cape Town the afternoon is at leisure, enjoy sundowners at one of the fabulous beaches or indulge in some last minute shopping at the V&A Waterfront. The next day we get to explore the many attractions the ‘Mother City’ has to offer on our Cape Point tour.

Day : 20 Cape Town

Spend the final day at leisure, weather dependent there is the chance to take the cable car up Table Mountain (own expense) and enjoy one last view of the Cape of Good Hope before your transfer to the airport.

If you wish to visit Robben Island and more of Cape Town's many attractions, consider extending your stay. We can book post tour accommodation for you upon request.

The accommodation was great on tour some exceptional especially Craddock and Drackenberg Mountain area. The guide Todd and tour drive Rodd were both exceptional answered all our needs. Very satisfied, the only issue was one missed pick up, I phoned and all worked out in the end. The best room at Vic Falls with balcony overlooking water hole which allowed us to see all the wild animals coming in to drink.
I would recommend On The Go. Cheers Rhonda

Dexter our guide was fantastic - very organised, friendly and provided all the information about the country and places visited. Craig, the driver was also excellent. A wide variety of experiences as every place visited was so different.Only change I would make would be to stay 2 days at Addo and then only 1 day at Tsitsikamma as there was more to see and do at Addo.Good quality accommodation and excellent food.

I thought the tour was very well planned and that we had enough time in each location without being rushed, and I feel like we got to see a lot of highlights. I also liked the accommodations. Some people on the tour expected something more 4 or 5 stars (even though they didn't pay for it), but I thought the accommodations were as expected or better. I loved the beehive huts in Swaziland in particular. But the highlight of the entire tour for me, though, was the guide, Nerise. She is hands down the best guide I have had on any tour ever (and I have done quite a few). She was great at organizing everyone and everything, she dealt perfectly with challenging personalities (we had a few on the tour) and she knew an incredible amount about South Africa, but shared the right amount about it so that it wasn't overwhelming. Thanks for an amazing tour and experience!

Excellent programme, good accommodation and food but Todd was without question what made the tour. Informative, entertaining, knowledgeable, and very well organised. Everything went like clockwork.

Our driver was Alan, he too was brilliant, he kept the van ship shape and was a pleasure to be around.

We enjoyed the tour very much. If I had to change the tour at all I would have liked more time in Stellenbosch and wasn't keen on the stay in Lesotho so would have given that a miss. Also, we had 12 people on our tour which, in the van was the maximum I would have liked to travel with.

Sometimes could have used more info about what hikes etc. would be like so we could prepare better ahead of time. The tour guide added some extras that she thought the group might like and the animals were great.
