Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Lima

Accommodation: Country Club Lima Hotel – Lima

Upon arrival in Lima (air on own arrangement), meet with our representative and transfer to your hotel. The city is known as ‘The City of Kings’ and was once the center of the Spanish Empire in the New World, for three centuries after Pizarro's conquest. Now, the capital of Peru and one of the most important cities in South America has been declared Humanity Cultural Patrimony, and is the main starting point for all programs in the country. Located in the middle of Peru's coastline, Lima is an economic magnet for struggling highland and Amazonian villagers. A vibrant city with friendly people, it quickly snares the curious traveler with fine museums, striking architecture and richly historical neighborhoods.

Day 2: Lima

Meals: Breakfast

During today’s city tour, visit the main attractions of Lima. Drive to the main square, where you will see the Government Palace, Archbishop`s Palace and the City Hall. Visit the Cathedral built in 1625 in a Baroque Renaissance Style, containing a unique collection of oil paintings and sculptures from the 17th and 18th centuries. Highlights in its interior are the chapel holding the remains of Francisco Pizarro and the choir stalls. Then, visit the San Francisco Monastery, which, besides an interesting museum, features catacombs also open for visits. Afterwards, drive to the district of Pueblo Libre to visit the Rafael Larco Herrera Museum housed in a colonial residence and built atop an 18th century pyramid. The museum exhibits the most extensive collection of Pre-Columbian Peruvian art in the world. An extensive collection of Peruvian Gold, Silver and textiles from ancient times complement the exhibition. You can also visit the Pre-Hispanic Erotic Art Salon. The museum has recently been completely refurbished and features explanations in six languages. After the visit, enjoy a cocktail at the Museum (includes finger food and one alcoholic drink.

*Remark: The Cathedral is closed on Saturday afternoons, Sunday mornings and public holidays.

Day 3: lima / cusco / sacred valley

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: Aranwa Sacred Valley Hotel & Wellness – Sacred Valley

At the given time, you will be picked up at your hotel and taken to the airport for your flight to Cusco (air on own arrangement). Cusco has been nicknamed the “Navel of the Earth“, since during the florescence of the Incas, almost every path and way led to the capital of the empire. Also nowadays, almost every visitor of Peru eventually comes to the city located at 3,400m.o.s.l, which unites evidence from different epochs. You will not only find Incan walls and temples, but also colonial mansions and catholic churches. In combination with the flair of modern Cusco, it is one of the most fascinating cities in the country. Upon arrival at Cusco airport, you will be picked up by our representative for a scenic drive to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. On the way, visit Awanakancha, a living museum of Andean cameloids including Llamas, Alpacas, and the very rarely seen Vicuñas and Guanucos. Here, you can also learn about the traditional weaving techniques. Awanakancha is a project with a main task to preserve the old weaving techniques typical for the area, as well as to support the local communities involved. Afterwards, transfer to your hotel in Sacred Valley.

Day 4: Sacred Valley / Machu Picchu / Sacred Valley

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

At the given time, you will be picked up at your hotel and taken to Ollantaytambo for the Vistadome Train to Machu Picchu. The ‘Lost City of the Incas’ is not only one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, but also the biggest treasure of Peru’s past and the empire of the Incas. Undiscovered by the Spaniards and forgotten over centuries, it was not until 1911 that the American scientist Hiram Bingham came upon it accidentally. Until today, the ruins leave scientists with numerous questions and riddles on how it was built and for what purpose. Theories vary but one thing is for sure: Machu Picchu is one of the most impressive and exciting places in the world, sublime and majestic on top of the mountain and surrounded by impenetrable rainforest. Reach Machu Picchu by shuttle bus. Lunch will be served at Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. In the the afternoon, take a train back to Ollantaytambo and continue by road to your hotel in Sacred Valley.

Day 5: Sacred Valley / Cusco

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Accommodation: JW Marriott El Convento Cusco Hotel – Cusco

At the given time, you will be picked up at your hotel and brought to Maras to start your full-day tour. Your guide will take you on a tour to the different Inca Communities and antique salt mines. Start the tour with a visit to the Salt Mines of Maras. With the salt tapped by exposing salt water bubbling to the surface from a spring called Qoripujio in manmade wells to the sun, people earn their living. The view of this complex of nearly 3,000 wells is spectacular. The local people demonstrate the ancient techniques to visitors, even allowing you to participate.

The excursion continues to Moray, a little Andean community famous for its embedded amphitheatre formed by four circular terraces, which seem to disappear into the interior of the puna, like an artificial crater. Evidence seems to suggest that Moray was an important Inca agricultural research center. Lunch will be served at the Tunupa Restaurant in Urubamba and followed by transfer to Chinchero community located 28 km from Cusco. There, you will see remains of what was once the royal hacienda of Tupac Inca Yupanqui, as well as beautiful colonial temples built on Inca’s foundations. However, its main attraction is its Sunday market originally dedicated to the people of the valley to barter their products. This colourful, lively market still fascinates people with its variety of handicrafts and textiles made in true pre-Columbian style. Afterwards, transfer to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 6: Cusco

Meals: Breakfast

In the morning, you will go on a walking city tour of Cusco, consisting of a visit to Cusco's most important landmarks of both the Inca and the Colonial times. During your tour, you will visit Qoricancha, also known as the temple of the sun. A catholic monastery, Santo Domingo, was built on the site, partly including the Incan Walls of the Sun Temple. Continue to the Cathedral, considered the best repository of colonial art from the Cusco School. It was built over the palace of the Inca Wiracocha and considered the religious and political center of Cusco during the Inca era. You will also walk through the Inca Street of Loreto, a fine sample of the old town and its remarkable Inca walls. You will have the choice to visit the Casa Concha Museum, or San Pedro Market. Day includes free time for lunch on your own arrangement. After lunch, visit the Ruins of Cusco. The tour starts with your guide showing you the archaeological park of the fortress-temple Saqsaywaman, followed by the nearby shrines of Kenqo and the cleansing water rituals at Tambomachay. Afterwards, visit the ancient Inca’s storage palaces: Tambo and Pukapukara. After the tour, transfer back to your hotel.

*Remarks: All museums are closed on Sundays.

Santo Domingo can only be visited from 2:00 PM to5:00 PM.

Day 7: Cusco / Lima

Meals: Breakfast

At the given time, you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the airport for your flight back to Lima (air on own arrangement). Assistance at Lima airport for your connecting flight home/onward is included (air on own arrangement).
