Itinerary

Day 1 - Reykjavik - Hiking at Thingvellir National Park

Hiking at Thingvellir National Park. First on our program for the day is a visit to the historical site of Þingvellir. The park is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The location is wonderful, a beautiful lake skirted by a small canyon that in fact is a part of the Mid-Atlantic riftthe.Sightseeing at Strokkur. Next we will head to the Great Geysir geothermal. There we will take a look at the areas namesake and its neighbor, Strokkur, a feisty geyser which spouts every 5-10 minutes.Sightseeing at Gullfoss Waterfall. Close by we find Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls; in two giant steps the water falls 32 meters into a deep gorge. We continue southeast through one of the country’s largest agriculture areas.Northern Lights. Over the next few nights, be sure to check the sky for the famous Aurora Borealis. At the end of the day we come to our hotel sitting in the Icelandic country side with view over to the volcano Hekla.

Day 2 - Reykjavik - Sightseeing at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall

Sightseeing at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. Continuing east we set course to the Eyjafjallajökull massive. The waterfall of Seljalandsfoss is worthy of a short stop as well as the Skógarfoss waterfall, said to be the hidden place of a chest of gold.Sightseeing at Skógafoss Waterfall.Local Flavor. At the hamet of Skógar we will visit the folk museum Skógarsafn where you can see how the Icelanders lived in the past.Sightseeing at Vík Village. Further east we will visit the black beaches of Vík pass one of Iceland’s biggest lava fields. We reach our hotel where we stay for the next 3 nights.

Day 3 - Reykjavik - Hiking at Vatnajökull National Park

Hiking at Vatnajökull National Park. Vatnajökull National Park is Europe’s biggest National Park. The south-east part of the park is the area of Skaftafell which is composed of natural forest growing between glacial tongues, reaching down almost to sea level - a unique place to visit. We walk through a birch forest up to the Svartifoss waterfall, which is famous for its black basalt columns.Sightseeing at Hvannadalshnjúkur. On the way we will get fantastic views of Europe’s largest glacier Vatnajökull and Hvannadalshnúkur (2110m), its highest peak.Hiking. In the afternoon on our way back, we will take a walk at the foot of the ÖræfajIn the afternoon an inspiring 2-3 hour walk on the glacier is optional (not included). You will be provided with all the necessary gear (crampons and ice axes) to discover the amazing blue world of ice and explore its ridges and crevasses! ökull glacier, with fantastic views over the vast sand plains of the river Skeiðará. In 1996 the great glacier outflow from under the Vatnajökull icecap destroyed the longest bridge in Iceland. A huge mass of ice (3000 billion liters) melted and the water reached a flow rate of 55,000 cubic meters per second and covered these huge plains with water. Overnight in same hotel.

Day 4 - Reykjavik - Hiking at Jokulsarlon

Hiking at Jokulsarlon. Today we head east along the Öræfajökull glacier which covers one of the country’s greatest volcanoes and its highest summit. We then cross great flatlands in front of the huge Breiðamerkurjökull glacier before arriving at Jökulsárlón lagoon with its picturesque floating icebergs. The area of the Southern Vatnajökull National Park has provided the backdrop for many Hollywood films and TV shows, for example “Batman Begins” and lately HBO‘s “Game of Thrones”. At the lagoon we discover a great variety of icebergs of different forms and shapes and the wide range of blue and white colors in the ice.Sightseeing. In the afternoon on our way back, we stop by a modern Icelandic sheep farm to see how the locals live today. Overnight in hotel.

Day 5 - Reykjavik - Sightseeing at Vík Village

Sightseeing at Vík Village. On our return to Reykjavik we pass by the village of Vík (Vík í Mýrdal) where we can enjoy a walk on the black beach. The pinnacles of Reynisdrangar are to be seen just off shore. According to the legend, the pinnacles were left standing there after two trolls tried to pull a three master ship past the headland, but were caught and petrified by the first rays of sunshine.Hot Springs at Hveragerði. North of the village Hveragerði, famous for its greenhouses, we enjoy our last walk over to the geothermal area of Reykjadalur Valley (or in Grændalur over the coldest winter months) where we can enjoy a relaxing bath in a warm stream (not possible in Grændalur) before returning to the hectic life of Iceland’s capital.

"We arrived back into Australia on Sunday after spending a couple of further weeks exploring some more of South America. I found you through Google searching for tours that included Atacama Desert options. The Good online reviews from numerous other travelers convinced us to work with you. Also the variety that was offered on this tour suited as very well
The 4WD trip through Bolivia was amazing. It's like a different planet up there and was a real experience. The Salar de Uyuni at sunrise was fantastic on the 4WD tour. Truly a unique place.
We really enjoyed the hotel in Purmurmarca - Hotel El Manantial del Silencio. It had real character and drinking Argentinian red wine by the open fireplace was lovely.
All our guides were very good and were friendly and welcoming. Eddie, our 4WD driver did not speak English which made it a bit hard to converse with, but we were lucky enough to be travelling with an Austrian family who were able to relay information to us. The guides for the Tatio geysers and the Humahuaca day tour were very good at relaying everything in Spanish and English. Sorry - but I can't recall their names.
Just one suggestion: It would be worth noting to people that not all services run every day and this needs to be confirmed for the requested dates. This didn't put us out too much as we got to spend an extra day in the North of Argentina, but we may have shifted our internal flights around a bit have we known the bus didn't run on a daily basis.
Cheers, Mat"

I booked a Long Island wine tasting tour with 2 of my friends and highly recommend booking through Project Expedition! Rob was very helpful in suggesting tours in the region and was pro-active helping us find a date that worked for the group! The tour stops at 3 vineyards in Long Island and includes snacks and a lunch. Really great value! Next we're planning to do their white water rafting and wine tasting tour which also comes highly recommend. All in all, a great experience booking with Project Expedition!

As a travel agent I am very particular about the suppliers that I use because they are an extension of myself and my agency to my clients. Project Expedition has more than exceeded my expectations when it comes to a supplier. The customer service is amazing, exactly how it should be. They treat their customers and their agents the way they should be treated. I send as much business their way as I can and am excited about their growing options
