Short Description

Enjoy Antarctica in style — by flying and then cruising south of the Antarctic Circle! A short three-hour flight is all it takes to travel between Punta Arenas, Chile and King George Island in Antarctica. Skipping all the extra days at sea, you’ll enjoy only the best scenery and wildlife experiences of the Antarctic. Prepare yourself for a sensory overload, as you’ll be inundated by the sheer beauty and dramatic landscapes of the white continent. Soon after, our team of Polar Experts on the ship will have you searching for penguins and whales in Antarctica.

Groups are between 25-60 people, typically ~30-40. Usually there will be many opportunities to split off and enjoy meals and excursions in smaller groups. This is the most economical way to travel, saving up to 40% versus booking the same itinerary yourself.

Itinerary

Day 1 — Punta Arenas, Chile

Your adventure begins in Punta Arenas, Chile, the most populated city in southern Patagonia.

Day 2 — Embarkation Day

Your charter flight from Punta Arenas to Antarctica will have you crossing the legendary Drake Passage in only a few hours.

Days 3 to 5 — Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands

There are few places in the world as evocative as Antarctica. As your ship approaches the white continent, you may be overcome by feelings of excitement and awe.

Days 6 and 7 — The Antarctic Circle

Crossing the Antarctic Circle is an impressive achievement, as most expeditions to the Peninsula do not reach 66° 33' S.

Days 8 and 9 — Northbound Along the Peninsula

If you haven’t had your fill of Antarctic wildlife and icebergs by now, you’ll surely be satisfied by the time we return to King George Island.

Day 10 — Disembarkation and Fly to Punta Arenas

After your week of exploration, you’ll say goodbye to the Expedition Team and disembark at King George Island.

Day 11 — Depart Punta Arenas

After breakfast, you are welcome to continue on your own travels or make your way to the Punta Arenas airport for your homeward flights.

Any company can be good when things go well, it's how they perform when things go wrong that is important. I was on the 7th Jan Fly the Drake expedition that got cancelled after 3 days of bad weather meant we were unable to land on King George Island. They were honest with us whilst events were unfolding and took care of our food and accommodation needs. Since returning home, my dealings with them via my travel agent have been professional and satisfactory. So much so that I have booked to travel with them next year.

I was on the Ocean Endeavor over Christmas and everything was amazing. The service, expedition leaders, and the itinerary. What I liked was that they were not set on landing at exact locations. One area was inaccessible by ice, so we went somewhere else. I liked the decisions the captain and expedition leader made to ensure we had a fantastic trip. The food was plentiful and overall service perfect. I wouldn't hesitate to book another trip with Quark!

Visiting Svalbard / Spitsbergen in July 2017 on the Ocean Nova was one the highlights of my life... to see Blue Whales, Polar Bears and cub, etc and the tundra in full flower was Mother Nature in its purest form.. Thank you to Quark Expedition for a never to be forgotten experience.

Lightning Will Johnson Just got home from an 11 day expedition around Svalbard aboard the Ocean Nova. Quark Expeditions is a first rate outfit. Outstanding service, food, and exploration. We were able to kayak on 9 different occasions in addition to our shore excursions. The crew was outstanding and did everything they could to make our trip memorable. I rate them 10 out of 10.
