Nestled in the Coastal Mountain Range, a trip to Whistler means stunning mountain views, crystal blue alpine lakes, lush rainforests and an adventure around every corner. Rich with natural beauty and a lively adventure community, it is the perfect destination for an active vacation. Our itinerary highlights the best of summer in Whistler—taking us to advanced hiking trails that are challenging but all the more rewarding.

Itinerary

Day 1: Meet in Creekside for an orientation and dinner.
Our adventure begins this evening at 6pm in Creekside. Meet your guide and fellow travelers for dinner at Creekbread Restaurant, a favorite spot for great food with great company. While we enjoy dinner our guide will go over the itinerary in detail and discuss the hikes for the coming days. After dinner we depart for Legends Lodge, our home for the next three nights. Legends Lodge will offer a comfortable night's sleep in beautiful surroundings; the hot tubs will be the perfect reward after our exhilarating hikes in the coming days. Dinner included

Day 2: Hike the Joffre Lakes trail and have lunch under Matier Glacier.
After a filling breakfast in Whistler Village we head north on the Sea to Sky Highway to Joffre Lakes. Joffre Lakes is a magnificent area of jagged peaks, ice fields, cold rushing streams, and turquoise blue lakes. Our goal today is to take in all three of the Joffre lakes, each more spectacular than the last. Our trail first takes us through lush coastal rainforest and then begins a steeper climb further up the valley through boulder fields and little bridge crossings. The stunning views along the hike are capped off with a picnic lunch at the top lake. Surrounded by crystal blue water and striking views of Matier Glacier hanging above us, our lunch will provide the reward and rest needed before the hike back down. The return hike provides a new view for us as we look across the other side of the valley and descend past the lakes below. At day's end we are back at the lodge where one can rest, walk to nearby Alpha Lake, or soak in the hot tub before regrouping for dinner in Whistler Village. A fantastic dinner includes recapping the day's journey and having the guides prepare us for the next day's adventure.

Hiking: 7 miles with 1,200' elevation gain and loss.

Day 3: Marvel at stunning mountain views as we hike the Sproatt Alpine Trail.
Another great breakfast in Whistler Village fuels our bodies for today's hiking. Equipped with our daypacks we take the short drive to the Sproatt Alpine Trailhead. Venturing up the west side of the valley we explore an area that gives us an entirely new vista of the Coastal Mountains. Starting in the idyllic British Columbia forest, the trail climbs steeply until reaching a vast alpine ridge where we are rewarded with postcard perfect views. We find a choice spot for lunch and take in the beauty of Mount Sproatt and Rainbow Mountain as we bask in our alpine wonderland. The views from this side of the valley showcase Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains as well as the entire Whistler Valley below. After lunch we finish our loop hike and return to the valley where our group vehicle awaits to take us back to our lodge where we can enjoy some well-earned relaxation before another evening enjoying a favorite local restaurant. All meals included.

Hiking: 9 miles with 3100' elevation gain and loss

Day 4: Our Getaway concludes with an alpine hike on Whistler Mountain.
On our final day of this adventure we gather for breakfast after checking out of our rooms. Our destination today is the alpine of Whistler Mountain. This hike is a fantastic capstone to our trip. The adventure starts by taking the Whistler Mountain Gondola up to the alpine. This 35-minute trip up gives us incredible views of the valley and possibly bears below. Our hike then starts at 6,000 feet and leads us deeper into the backcountry away from the resort and through the wide open alpine. As we follow beautiful single-track trails we are rewarded with stunning views of the lakes below and dramatic glacial systems that surround us and dominate these mountains. This provides a perfect setting for us to discuss the current state of our glaciers and how they shaped this gorgeous region. Our loop hike treats us to amazing Coast Range views and if we still have energy left in our legs we can continue across to Blackcomb Mountain for further exploration before we descend back to the Whistler Valley via the Gondola. When we return to the valley we make our final goodbyes as we celebrate our new friendships and return home rejuvenated and inspired by our getaway adventure. Depending on weather, trail conditions, group makeup, etc. we anticipate arriving back to our lodging at around 5:00-pm. Any travel plans out of Whistler at the completion of your trip should be after that time. Breakfast and lunch included.

Hiking: 7-10 miles with 1000-1400' elevation gain

I loved this trip. The equipment was in very good condition. The fjords are awe strikingly beautiful. The water is clear and the Norwegian people were incredibly nice and hospitable.

Our guides were top notch. They worked very hard to make our trip the best it could be for us. Lots of personal service from REI Adventures. I have to look back at my pictures to make sure I actually took the trip. It was a life altering experience for me.

REI's tour groups are a blast. You're able to see much more of the country than you would if you were on your own. The trips are very organized and you never feel bored or too rushed. There's a wide variety of tours to pick from based on region and activity.
