Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Argentina, Discover Buenos Aires

Welcome to Argentina!

Capital of Argentina and described as the Paris of South America, Buenos Aires proudly embraces this title, as well as shows off plenty of its own culture! Explore the traditional European architecture, the cobbled streets lined with rustic outdoor cafes, the local antique and artisanal markets that offer plenty of bargain shopping, and the mouthwatering aroma of prized Argentine beef sizzling on an open “parrrilla” (barbeque) in the air. Buenos Aires is home to some excellent local designers and you will certainly find the perfect leather jacket, long leather boots and handbags for all occasions. Though above all, Buenos Aires is known as the home of the tango. Be sure to enjoy a traditional dinner-tango show and explore the colorful San Telmo and Recoleta neighborhoods.

Upon arrival in Buenos Aires you will be met at the airport and have a transfer in private to your hotel.

You will have the rest of the day to enjoy this vibrant city, leaving you the remainder of the day to explore the historic neighborhoods and enjoy the cafe culture of Buenos Aires.

Day 2: Buenos Aires City Tour & Tango Show

In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel to enjoy our City Tour.

Over the course of a half day you will have the chance to visit the historical and political centre of the city; San Telmo with its cobblestone streets, La Boca where Buenos Aires turns colorful and tango is ever present, and the chic and aristocratic Recoleta, where the big palaces remind us that Buenos Aires was once the Paris of the South.

Duration; 4-5 hours

In the evening you will be picked up from your hotel (shared service) to be driven to one of Buenos Aires’ most emblematic cultural highlight’s; a Dinner and Tango Show offering a spectacular demonstration of the finest local dancing accompanied by delicious Argentine cuisine and all the malbec you’d like.

At the end of the evening you will be driven back to your hotel.

Total duration (dinner + show); 4 hours (aprox)

Day 3: From Buenos Aires to El Calafate - Travel to Patagonia

At appropriate time you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the airport for your flight to El Calafate. Private service.

Welcome to Southern Patagonia!

El Calafate is located in the Patagonian steppe, dry and dramatic.

It is on the border of Lago Argentino (Argentina’s biggest lake), considered capital of the glaciers. It is the gate to visit worldwide known Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the only glaciers in the world that is still advancing.

Upon arrival you will be taken to the hotel (shared service) and have the rest of the day to relax or explore the areas around the town or if possible, make the 1km hike out to Laguna Nimez for a beautiful Patagonian sunset.

Day 4: El Calafate: Perito Moreno Glacier Tour

After an early breakfast, you will leave on a full day excursion to Perito Moreno Glacier (shared service), in Los Glaciers National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1981 and home to one of the most awe inspiring landscapes in Argentina; Perito Moreno Glacier is a site to behold.

During about 1 hour a bilingual guide will provide you with all the information you might want to know, and things you might have never thought about.

On arrival you will have the chance to enjoy stunning views of the glacier from the nearby walking trail and viewing platforms.

But not just that, you will also enjoy the included Perito Moreno Glacier boat cruise that will take you close enough to fully appreciate the 80m high ice walls! In the early evening, you will return to you hotel in Calafate.

Day 5: From El Calafate to Trekking in El Chalten

In the morning you will take a comfortable public bus, where for during about 3 hours you will be able to enjoy the desert of Southern Patagonia on the famous Route 40. You will pass through La Leona river, that connects Lake Argentino and Lake Viedma.

By the river you will see La Leona Road House where once Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid after robbing a bank where hidden for almost a month.

Usually on arrival to El Chalten, the bus stops 15 minutes at the Park Ranger office to give you general explanations about the park, recommendations, etc. They are very informative and enthusiastic to share their love for the Park.

El Chalten is the top rated trekking destination, the Argentinean capital of trekking. Located at the foot of the Fitz Roy Mountain, surrounded by glaciers, lakes, rivers and forest, it is still a hidden gem of our south. The charming little village, that is also the start point for most paths, is a paradise for walkers and trekkers alike.

On arrival you can explore the surroundings, have a stroll around a little waterfall, or just relax in the local brewery.

Day 6: El Chalten- Mountains and Lakes, Self guided.

Be prepared for an exciting day in the wild Nature. El Chalten offers a range of options for all kind of difficulty of trekking.

From the door of your hotel, you can go for a short 3 K walk, with views of the Rio de las Vueltas, lenga forest and the chance to see all kind of birds (great woodpecker spotting opportunity).

If you are looking for great mountain views, in one hour and a half you can be at the Cerro Torre view point.

For trekking fans, continue all the way to Torre base or go for the 8 hours trekking for the most impressive view of Fitz Roy and the whole massif by Laguna de los tres path (Highhly recommended!!). This is a trek that becomes difficult in the last bit but totally worth the effort.

You can choose where and when to go, and at your own pace, since the paths are self-guided and very well marked and maintained.

We will provide you with complete trekking information of the park, so that you can decide the best plan to make the best of your day.

Day 7: From El Chalten, back to El Calafate

This morning you can choose any other trek from a great variety that this National Park offers. Bare in mind that in the afternoon you will board your bus back to El Calafate

The three hours driving back will be a good opportunity to rest enjoying the views from your window.

Day 8: Discover Torres del Paine National Park

In the early morning you will be picked up for the full day excursion to Torres del Paine National Park..

Along the road you might be able to see rheas, guanacos, Patagonian hare, and even condors.

After crossing the Patagonian steppe from North to South, you will arrive at the border post “Cancha Carrera” after a 2,5 hrs trip. There, you will start to travel through the beautiful South Chile until you arrive at the “Torres del Paine” National Park (“Blue Towers” in the Tehuelche language, due to the predominant color).

It is important to mark that today you are crossing the border to get into Chile. Please, make sure you have your passport.

Keep an eye out for wild guanacos as they roam the windy plains.

It is a long day, but we belive it deserves every hour. Some of the wonders of the world renowned park that you will visit will be Salto Grande, Laguna Amarga, Lago Pehoe, the Cuernos del Paine and of course, the famous Torres del Paine.

In the evening you’ll be dropped off at your hotel to stay the night inside the park.

Day 9: Torres del Paine National Park– Self Guided

Torres del Paine is one of the most beautiful protected areas of South America, and for sure the best way to explore it is by foot.

If you like hiking and nature, this should be one of the highlights of your trip.

From owls to deers, from condors to guanacos, from orchids to blueberries, with the back of the impressive granite massif, this magnificent place is breathtaking.

Some of the trekking options include the full day to the base of the magnificent Torres del Paine, ideal for trekkers, the intense blue of the Grey Glaciar or the unforgettable view of the French Valley.

Depending in which area of the Park you are staying, you will be able to explore different paths. We will provide you with complete trekking information of the park, so that you can decide the best plan to make the best of your day.

Please check with our travel Advisor which are the best options from your hotel location.

Check also our Optional Tours in case you would like to add an activity, or quote a guide for this day.

Day 10: Torres del Paine to Punta Arenas - the Patagonia Adventure continues

At an appropriate time a shuttle will take you from your hotel to Punta Arenas (approximately 4 ½ hours).

The Chilean southernmost city, it was once a wealthy, aristocratic and European style place. Before the Panama Canal opened, this was the most important stop before or after crossing the Magallean straight. You can see the remains of that in the local cemetery, with its impressive mausoleums and in the architecture of the oldest areas. Stroll around to discover the old mansions and a character filled place in the extreme south Patagonia- where now more sheep than people live.

Day 11: Travel to Ushuaia & explore the end of the world

In the early morning, you will have to take a taxi to the bus station to embark on a full day bus trip to Ushuaia, passing through some of Patagonia’s most stunning scenery. Cross the mystical Strait of Magellan before arriving at Tierra del Fuego Island. After crossing the border between Argentina & Chile, the bus will keep on driving south, until it finally arrives to Ushuaia, known as the City of the End of the World.

This beautiful city is surrounded by mountains and facing the Beagle Chanel.

Upon arrival in Ushuaia you will make your way to your hotel on your own. (Taxis to and from the bus station should cost less than $8)

This bus trip gives you the option to see the landscape and the other lesser known parts of Chile, having a much more complete view of the area. However, it is long journey (Punta Arenas- Ushuaia is a 12 hour trip in a public bus, ferry crossing and dusty roads) and it can be a tiring day. For an additional cost you can choose a less adventurous option with the possibility of driving back to El Calafate and flying to Ushuaia.

Day 12: Ushuaia: Trekking & Canoeing in Patagonia

You will be picked up from your hotel (shared service) and drive towards Tierra del Fuego National Park. Once at Ensenada Bay, you will have time to enjoy the view over the Beagle Channel before starting the trekking along the coast.

These six kilometers of wild trail will give you the possibility to watch the native flora and wild fauna of the channel as well as the opportunity to discover old native remains left by the ancient dwellers of the area, the Yamanas. In 3 hours you will reach Roca Lake where lunch will be ready. After a complete homemade picnic you will start canoeing along Lapataia River, which will take you to Lapataia Bay on the Beagle Channel, precisely where the Panamerican Highway and number 3 National Route ends. Return to Ushuaia.

Total duration: 8/10 hours.

Trekking: 3 hours

Canoeing: 1 ½ hours.

Day 13: Beagle Channel Cruise - Back to Buenos Aires

After making your way to the tourist pier, embark on a boat excursion along the famous Beagle Channel. You will gain panoramas of Ushuaia Bay and see the diverse marine wildlife, such as cormorants and fur seals, on De los Lobos and De los Pajaros Islands. On one of the Bridges Isles, you can explore the island for concheros, or giant shells, and enjoy the views of Chile and Argentina. Not to mention, passing the Les Eclaireurs lighthouse. During the excursion, you can enjoy snacks and the favorite Argentine drink, mate.

Please note there is a local port tax of usd2.-

Duration; 3-4 hours

At the appropriate time you will be taken to the domestic airport for your flight to Buenos Aires

Day 14: Your Argentina & Chile Vacations come to an end

At the appropriate time you will have a private transfer to the international airport for your flight back home.

As for comments regarding our experience with Say Hueque, besides the issue with Cauquenes de Nimez we didn't have too many other issues. Only thing would be the shuttle issue from El Chalten back to El Calafate. I wish there was more flexibility in taking an early shuttle back to El Calafate. Our shuttle didn't leave until 7pm and by the time we got to our hotel it was 11pm. Then we had to wake up really early the next morning to catch the shuttle to Torres Del Paine. But I understand that these shuttles are pre-paid and reserved in advance and the company has limited departures. When I initially made the reservations, I was told there was only a 7pm departure from El Chalten to El Calafate. Apparently I learned that this was not true and that there was another company who offered an early departure (1pm) from El Chalten to El Calafate. I wish I had know about that, because I would have requested an earlier time instead of the 7pm.

I had a good experience with your agency. Vera, Patricio, and you were very helpful and provided timely follow up to my questions. I also liked that you have an initial itinerary in which I can then customize what I would like to do. For instance, I added an additional day in Torres Del Paine, which was nice as the second day weather was better than the first. I enjoyed that Say Hueque booked all the hotel and transportation arrangements and all were timely and reliable. I spoke to some other independent travellers who had trouble figuring out transportation connections and making hotel bookings, who wish they went thru an agency. I like that Say Hueque is an expert of the region and was able to coordinate days and time for our travels. Although the tour was a little more expensive; I think the extra expense saved us the headache of trying to make the reservations and booking ourselves. Overall, a well coordinated trip by Say Hueque.

Last recommendation, is that I wish I had dealt with less people at Say Hueque. I first made contact with Vera, then she went on vacation for a month, and so I was talking with Patricio. Then Vera came back from vacation and then I was dealing with her. Then right before the trip I was working with you. Confusing. I would have preferred to have initially worked with you from the start of the trip planning process to the actual trip.

I researched Say Hueque on Trip Advisor and read the reviews on your website and decided to make contact. The booking process was excellent. Our travel advisor was Agustin and he gave us some great advice about where to go and what to do. He also helped us with advice on flight times and airlines to use.

Our favorite hotel was Arena Ipanema in Rio. Great location, excellent room and service. Least favorite was La Cantera in Iguasu Falls. Huge room but no tea/coffee facilities in the room. Staff were great but no room service and we had some noise from surrounding rooms.

I think the 2 day at Iguasu Falls was our favorite tour. Just seeing the magnitude of the falls and being able to get so close to them was amazing. Favorite memory (and photo) was at Ipanema Beach and the Christ Redeemer statue.

Lujan was extremely helpful from booking our internal flights when I could not find good pricing to buying us tickets for the performance at the Colon Theatre. She also answered all of my many questions.

It is hard to pick a favorite excursion between Buenos Aires, Salta area and the Iguazu Falls. If pushed to make a decision we loved the mountains – both the trip to the Great Salt Flats and the Humahuaca and Conchas Gorges. We were probably most blown away by the drive through the Conchas Gorge to and from Cafayate but, at the same time when we were at the top of Humahuaca Gorge the view was unbelievable. And we saw a condor!

We liked the mix of tour and time on our own to explore.

I went with a very open mind so there was nothing that did not fulfill my expectations. I already miss the croissants and empanadas and hope to return one day to explore the central region and Patagonia.

The places we visited were just breathtaking, and the Argentinians were very friendly and welcoming. It was one of our best trips ever and one we will remember and talk about for a long time.

We chose Say Hueque because of the positive reviews on Trip Advisor, and after talking with Maria we knew she was very knowledgeable about her country and had lived and traveled around there extensively.

The booking process with Maria was excellent. She made many wonderful suggestions about which areas to visit, how long we should stay in each area, and which excursions would be best for us. She was also very prompt in answering our many emails.

My favorite excursion was the Marpatag Glaciares Gourmet boat trip. Seeing the glaciers up close was an unforgettable sight. The Gourmet lunch was excellent and we enjoyed the company of other travelers.

I would like to mention our guide in Buenos Aires, Ceci Martire. She was our very best guide, very knowledgeable and a lot of fun! She sent us emails throughout our trip to make sure everything was going as planned. Thank you, Ceci.

One negative thing that I need to mention was our all day excursion from El Calafate to Torres Del Paine. We expected to be picked up in a comfortable van for such a long ride, but instead we were picked up in a small SUV. This was too small for 3 adults in the back seat. And on top of that our driver decided to take a short cut over very bumpy gravel roads. This did reduce our travel time by 1 1/2 hours each way though.

My husband and I have traveled a great deal in Europe and Mexico and we agree that this was one of the best trips ever.

We decided to travel with Say Hueque after reading the great things travelers had to say about them on line. We worked with travel advisor Maria Szlafsztein through e-mails and phone calls and we’re very pleased with her service. She was very informative, helpful and quick to respond to our every inquiry. Maria really was invaluable in putting together this wonderful trip and almost everything about it ran smoothly without problems.

Our favorite hotel on this trip was the Cacique Inacayal in Bariloche because of its beautiful lakeside setting, restaurant and atmosphere. But we also really like Kau Yatsun Hotel in El Calafate.

Our least favorite was our stay at the Alden de la Selva in Puerto Iguazú. It was really isolated in its location and, due to its rainforest setting, seemed to have a mold problem. The food was not very appealing either. We would not stay there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed all the excursions, among them, the Argentine Experience, the Tango Show, Iguazú Falls, the day spent at Estancia Ombu. But probably my favorite was the Glaciares Gourmet cruise to see the magnificent glaciers of Argentina. It made for unforgettable memories.

All the guides we had with us during our trip were outstanding, very knowledgeable, fun and very accommodating. We have to mention Maria Cecilia Martire, Marcelo, Romulo Melo, Ezequiel Gonzalez, and Nicolás who drove us to Torres del Paine. We enjoyed our excursions with every one of them.

Pudu Hotel in El Chalten was our most favorite hotel since the location was perfect, the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly and helpful. We loved the town of El Chalten. The other favorite was the Las Torres in Torres Del Paine. It is a beautiful lodge, though expensive. The least favorite Design Suites in El Calafate. It was quite far from the town. The food was of medium quality.

The most favorite activities were treks in El Chalten (Cerro Torre), Base of the Towers (Torres Del Paine) and Perito Morino (El Calafate). All because of their natural beauty and the fun of trekking. The only suggestion I have for Perito Morino is I would have preferred a trek upto the glacier rather than only the boat excursion.
