Itinerary

Day 1: The Adventure begins in Lima, Peru

Welcome to Lima, Peru!

The capital and largest city of Peru. Located in the central coastal part of the country, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Upon your arrival in Lima airport, you will meet with your guide and transportation service, that will take you to your hotel.

Rest of the day free, to relax at the hotel or take the first sights of the city.

Day 2: Half Day City Tour in Lima

After breakfast, you will leave on a half day tour to explore Lima old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site packed with fascinating historic buildings. Start with a scenic tour in the colonial downtown, which radiates from the Main Square, where you can appreciate the grandiose architecture of the Spanish Empire.

Stroll over to the Cathedral, which was begun in the 16th century and took 80 years to build. Then visit the Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted in 1535 by chief conquistador Francisco Pizarro to Jerónimo de Aliaga, one of his captains. This is the only house from that time that still belongs to the same family after all these centuries. Continue to the Larco Museum, located in the traditional Pueblo Libre district, which is housed in a beautifully restored viceregal mansion built on a seventh-century a pre-Columbian pyramid. The museum boasts the most complete pre-Hispanic collection of gold and silver artefacts, as well as pieces of erotic art.

Finally, head to the “Love Park” in the upscale coastal district of Miraflores, where you can admire the cliffs and a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean.

Return to the hotel after the excursion.

Day 3: Lima / Cusco / Valle Sagrado

At the appropriate time, you will be pick up from your hotel and transfer to the airport of Lima to take your flight to Cusco.

Upon arrival to Cuzco, you will be transferred to your hotel in Sacred Valley (private service).

Day 4: Sacred Valley - Full Day Chinchero/ Vivo Museum/Ollantaytambo

The Sacred Valley was a truly special place for Inca civilization. Their many rivers and gorges, and the fertility of their valleys make this the best productive spot—the best grain corn in Peru grows here. Today, you’ll start exploring this enthralling Andean spot.

In the morning we’ll pick you up at your hotel in Urubamba and head to Chinchero town, the jumping-off point for the Sacred Valley visit to start. Enjoy your time here, admiring the traditional art that locals display in their handcraft clothes (in which the Inca’s knowledge and traditions survive until today), and a great view of the valley. In Chinchero you can also find some archeological remains, a beautiful church constructed in the seventeenth-century which was one of the first Catholic buildings in Peru.

This trip continues to the Raqchi viewpoint from where you can see the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo, our next stop. People have been living here steadily since the Incan period; this is definitely a place with history. Take a walk through town, climb its iconic fortress, and have lunch (included) in Chuncho restaurant, the perfect place to have a special gastronomy experience.

After lunch, you’ll visit the Living Museum of Yucay where you’ll learn about Andean traditions and browse through exhibitions containing textile work, adobe, pottery and silverware, just as they used to be in the old times. You’ll also have a closer encounter with the inhabitants of the museum: the llamas, sheep and alpacas, which can be fed. At the end of the day, we’ll drive you back to your hotel.

Day 5: Sacred Valley - Full Day Machu Picchu Ruins / Aguas Calientes

After breakfast, you will start the desire adventure to Machu Picchu, with a train ride to Aguas Calientes in approximately four hours’ time. This town is also known as “Machu Picchu Pueblo” and is the last stop before entering the remains of the most important archaeological site in Peru. In Aguas Calientes there is a train station, a craft market, restaurants and hotels of different categories for those who prefer to spend the night at the foot of the mountain and climb it early.

Finally, after a short transfer by bus you will reach Machu Picchu, a masterpiece of engineering and architecture that served as a sanctuary and retreat for the Inca Pachacutec. Machu Picchu, which means “Old Mountain”, and is considered a World Heritage by UNESCO and one of the new seven wonders of the world. At the end of the tour you will take a bus back to Aguas Calientes and have lunch at ¨Cafe Inkaterra¨ Machu Picchu.

You will have the rest of the afternoon free, to relax at the hotel or explore the surroundings.

Day 6: Sacred Valley - Full Day Machu Picchu Ruins / Cusco

Today, you will have breakfast at the hotel and you will have the opportunity to return to Machu Picchu and visit any of the attractions of the citadel.

Visit the Intipunku, which in Castilian means “Sun Gate” and is the last stop before entering Machu Picchu if you follow the Inca trail from Ollantaytambo. The sun rises every day through this door if viewed from the most important buildings of the citadel.

You may climb the Wayna Picchu (subject to space availability), which means “Young Mountain” as opposed to Machu Picchu. This ascent takes about an hour and its main attraction is the “Temple of the Moon”, a complex of underground constructions likely to have been used by the elite.

Finally, you will be able to know the Inca Bridge, an incredible stone building that served as entrance or exit of the citadel.

In the afternoon, you will head to the train station of Aguas Calientes and take the train back to Cusco from there. Once you arrive at the Cusco train station, you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 7: Cusco - Half Day City Tour

Today you will enjoy a guided tour of this charming city and learn about the fascinating Inca Empire.

Discover the insights of this lost civilization visiting the famous Qoricacha temple, the Plaza de Armas and its Cathedral and other important monument along the city. Head to the top of the city to visit the remains of the fortresses of Sacsayhuaman and Puka Pukara with stunning panoramic view of Cuzco.

Return to the hotel after the tour.

Day 8: Goodbye Peru

At appropriate time, you will be pick up from your hotel by guide and transportation to head to the Cusco airport for your flight back home.

I researched Say Hueque on Trip Advisor and read the reviews on your website and decided to make contact. The booking process was excellent. Our travel advisor was Agustin and he gave us some great advice about where to go and what to do. He also helped us with advice on flight times and airlines to use.

Our favorite hotel was Arena Ipanema in Rio. Great location, excellent room and service. Least favorite was La Cantera in Iguasu Falls. Huge room but no tea/coffee facilities in the room. Staff were great but no room service and we had some noise from surrounding rooms.

I think the 2 day at Iguasu Falls was our favorite tour. Just seeing the magnitude of the falls and being able to get so close to them was amazing. Favorite memory (and photo) was at Ipanema Beach and the Christ Redeemer statue.

Lujan was extremely helpful from booking our internal flights when I could not find good pricing to buying us tickets for the performance at the Colon Theatre. She also answered all of my many questions.

It is hard to pick a favorite excursion between Buenos Aires, Salta area and the Iguazu Falls. If pushed to make a decision we loved the mountains – both the trip to the Great Salt Flats and the Humahuaca and Conchas Gorges. We were probably most blown away by the drive through the Conchas Gorge to and from Cafayate but, at the same time when we were at the top of Humahuaca Gorge the view was unbelievable. And we saw a condor!

We liked the mix of tour and time on our own to explore.

I went with a very open mind so there was nothing that did not fulfill my expectations. I already miss the croissants and empanadas and hope to return one day to explore the central region and Patagonia.

The places we visited were just breathtaking, and the Argentinians were very friendly and welcoming. It was one of our best trips ever and one we will remember and talk about for a long time.

We chose Say Hueque because of the positive reviews on Trip Advisor, and after talking with Maria we knew she was very knowledgeable about her country and had lived and traveled around there extensively.

The booking process with Maria was excellent. She made many wonderful suggestions about which areas to visit, how long we should stay in each area, and which excursions would be best for us. She was also very prompt in answering our many emails.

My favorite excursion was the Marpatag Glaciares Gourmet boat trip. Seeing the glaciers up close was an unforgettable sight. The Gourmet lunch was excellent and we enjoyed the company of other travelers.

I would like to mention our guide in Buenos Aires, Ceci Martire. She was our very best guide, very knowledgeable and a lot of fun! She sent us emails throughout our trip to make sure everything was going as planned. Thank you, Ceci.

One negative thing that I need to mention was our all day excursion from El Calafate to Torres Del Paine. We expected to be picked up in a comfortable van for such a long ride, but instead we were picked up in a small SUV. This was too small for 3 adults in the back seat. And on top of that our driver decided to take a short cut over very bumpy gravel roads. This did reduce our travel time by 1 1/2 hours each way though.

My husband and I have traveled a great deal in Europe and Mexico and we agree that this was one of the best trips ever.

We decided to travel with Say Hueque after reading the great things travelers had to say about them on line. We worked with travel advisor Maria Szlafsztein through e-mails and phone calls and we’re very pleased with her service. She was very informative, helpful and quick to respond to our every inquiry. Maria really was invaluable in putting together this wonderful trip and almost everything about it ran smoothly without problems.

Our favorite hotel on this trip was the Cacique Inacayal in Bariloche because of its beautiful lakeside setting, restaurant and atmosphere. But we also really like Kau Yatsun Hotel in El Calafate.

Our least favorite was our stay at the Alden de la Selva in Puerto Iguazú. It was really isolated in its location and, due to its rainforest setting, seemed to have a mold problem. The food was not very appealing either. We would not stay there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed all the excursions, among them, the Argentine Experience, the Tango Show, Iguazú Falls, the day spent at Estancia Ombu. But probably my favorite was the Glaciares Gourmet cruise to see the magnificent glaciers of Argentina. It made for unforgettable memories.

All the guides we had with us during our trip were outstanding, very knowledgeable, fun and very accommodating. We have to mention Maria Cecilia Martire, Marcelo, Romulo Melo, Ezequiel Gonzalez, and Nicolás who drove us to Torres del Paine. We enjoyed our excursions with every one of them.

Pudu Hotel in El Chalten was our most favorite hotel since the location was perfect, the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly and helpful. We loved the town of El Chalten. The other favorite was the Las Torres in Torres Del Paine. It is a beautiful lodge, though expensive. The least favorite Design Suites in El Calafate. It was quite far from the town. The food was of medium quality.

The most favorite activities were treks in El Chalten (Cerro Torre), Base of the Towers (Torres Del Paine) and Perito Morino (El Calafate). All because of their natural beauty and the fun of trekking. The only suggestion I have for Perito Morino is I would have preferred a trek upto the glacier rather than only the boat excursion.

We returned home yesterday from our fabulous trip to Chile and Argentina.
