Highlights
  • Our most value-conscious option
  • See Tanzania’s most famous landmarks: the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater
  • Perfect for honeymooners or those with a shorter travel window
  • A perfect blend of wildlife viewing and cultural experiences
  • Great for travelers on tighter schedules

We’ve been sending travelers to Tanzania—only Tanzania—for over thirty years, because we truly believe it is the premier safari destination in East Africa.

First and foremost, that’s because Tanzania is, and always has been, a safe and peaceful country. It’s often referred to as “the Switzerland of Africa,” because of its reputation for calm and stability. You’ll sense the warmth and generosity of spirit of the Tanzanian people the moment you touch down on Tanzanian soil.

But Tanzania is more than just a safe country, it’s a beautiful one!

From the Indian ocean to the heights of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania has a wealth of breathtaking landscapes that set the scene for an amazing trip

The people that call this amazing country home have come together to form a rich culture that is intriguing, unique, and always changing

No safari is complete without wildlife viewing, and Tanzania has some of the best in Africa

Traveled with Thomson on a Safari as well as the Kili climb. One of the best travel experiences to date. The crew (US and Tanzania) was professional and caring. The facilities on Kili and Serengeti were best in class! The memories we made on the trip will stay with us for the rest of our lives and we will surely be back on a Safari soon to explore more of the amazing wildlife...Highly recommend Thomson without any hesitation!

Itinerary

Days 1-2

Depart North America / Arrive Arusha, Tanzania

Arrive into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Your guide will meet you at the airport and escort you to tonight’s lodge in Arusha.

Overnight: Mount Meru Hotel

Days 3-4

Eastern Serengeti Nature Refuge

A short flight from Arusha will take you to this private nature reserve. Because the land is privately owned, you’ll be able to head out on foot on guided hikes, and observe the nocturnal life of the Serengeti during night wildlife drives, experiences not available in the national parks. Meet with an entrepreneurial group of Maasai women and visit a traditional Maasai boma in this remote, exclusive setting.

Overnights: Eastern Serengeti Nyumba

Watch the  VIDEO HIGHLIGHT  to learn more about the Eastern Serengeti Nature Refuge.

Days 5-6

Serengeti National Park

Tanzania’s most iconic national park also has some of the best wildlife-viewing in the country. Spanning 6,000 square miles (the park is about the same size as Connecticut!), the rolling grass plains, granite kopjes where animals lounge in the sun, and winding rivers of the Serengeti are home to thousands upon thousands of animals, including giraffes, elephants, zebras, wildebeest, and large populations of big cats.

Join an optional  hot air balloon ride  to take in sweeping views of the Serengeti from above. (Advanced reservations and additional fees apply).

Overnights: Serengeti Nyumba

Days 7-8

Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater is just 10 miles across, but the floor of this volcanic caldera (which sinks 2,000 feet below the rim) is home to over 30,000 mammals! One of the only places where you can spot all of the “Big Five” species—lion, leopard, cape buffalo, elephant, and black rhinoceros—in just one day, the lush, verdant crater is a must see for any traveler to East Africa. During your stay here, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Tanzanian meal, a specialty of the chefs at your nyumba camp.

Overnight: Ngorongoro Nyumba

Days 9-10

Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha / Return to North America

On your way back to Arusha, you’ll enjoy a farewell lunch at River House, a community-based nonprofit organization that employs disabled local artisans and sells their beautiful handiwork. Say goodbye to your safari companions, pick out a few souvenirs, and relax in a day room before your return flight.

Day room: Mount Meru Hotel
