Short Description

Put the wind back in your sails with eight sun-soaked days in gorgeous Turkey, complete with endless blue skies, translucent waters and so much rest time you’ll forget what it’s like to be vertical. Dive head first into rich history and fabulous culture as we sail Turkey’s gorgeous Mediterranean coastline aboard a traditional gulet boat, stopping to explore quaint fishing villages and uninhabited islands. When you’re back on deck, stake out your favourite sunbed with your newly purchased Turkish towel and let the good times roll.

Groups are between 25-60 people, typically ~30-40. Usually there will be many opportunities to split off and enjoy meals and excursions in smaller groups. This is the most economical way to travel, saving up to 40% versus booking the same itinerary yourself.

Amazing staff who are very friendly and also extremely knowledgeable. My trip was amazing and I enjoyed every minute of it. I did the Spirit of Europe last year and couldn’t recommend Topdeck enough.

I jumped on this tour with very little notice and planning, and I was thoroughly impressed. Our Topdeck trip leader was very knowledgeable, fun, and adjusted the trip to the group (34 people). The meals provided were delicious, and they worked hard to cater to dietary needs. Accommodations were good, typically with 2-6 people in a hostel room. Keep in mind they are hostels, not hotels (bring your own towel).

I loved the itinerary, as it highlighted the must-see places and had variety (ex. Paris, Rome vs. Switzerland). The optionals in each city were all wonderful. However, many were not presented in the Topdeck literature online and were not introduced on the trip more than a day in advance. All are paid for in cash (Euros). Because of how the optionals were presented, it was a bit harder to budget. I would recommend inquiring more about the optionals when booking and at the beginning of your tour via your trip leader. Don't feel pressured to do all of them and remember to keep your own interests in mind.

The solo travelers easily found others with similar interests to explore with. For many on this trip, drinking and going out to bars/clubs was a major component (as alcohol is often cheaper than water). Because of the shortness of this tour along with all the destinations, prepare for lots of driving and to make the most of the time you have in each city.

This trip provided am amazing sampling of Western Europe and opened my eyes to cultures and history I was unfamiliar with. Overall, I would highly recommend this itinerary and touring company, as it provided a good balance between budget and experiences.

P.S. Stay flexible with plans, but some of the popular sights need more pre-planning than expected, like the Eiffel Tower and the Anne Frank House (Amsterdam).

Overall amazing value. Food, particularly by Topdeck staff, excellent. Spontaneous/flexible; be prepared to pay for lots of extra excursions, on and off your itinerary, in cash.

Food was excellent. Accomodations were better than expected: hostels, but usually with in-suite bathrooms and always only with other members of your tour of the same gender. Don't try to overplan; trip is quite spontaneous and flexible and you won't know much about the schedule/optionals for each city more than a day or so in advance. Optionals will be plentiful and paid in cash. Only do those that are right for you, even if your trip leader really encourages them and most other people are going. These trips are great for solo travelers, but make sure you find people interested in the same things as you...it will probably be easy to find groups to go to bars and clubs with in the evenings, but harder to find people who prefer other evening plans. Driver was excellent and bus was very comfortable and clean, but be prepared to spend a lot of time on it as there is no driving at night. Trip leader extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and helpful. Overall, excellent value and a trip with plenty of time to see the bucket list highlights in each city.

Did Uluru discovery in Australia and Grand Kiwi in NZ back in November and it was the most amazing experience ever! Awesome guide and driver. Well organized and took great care of us!
Only one bad hostel accommodation wise, but other than that it was amazing.
It was so nice not having to worry about accommodations, transportation, and most meals when we got there! On the days it wasn’t included, the guide/driver would tell us what’s in the area!
For sure will be doing another topdeck tour in the future!

My partner and I just completed the 20 day Discover Winter tour and it was absolutely outstanding! What really made the trip though was the Trip Leader, Alex, and the driver, Deyan. They were both extremely knowledgeable people and explained everything we needed to know to enjoy every place we went to. I highly recommend this tour and hope that everybody else has the opportunity to meet Alex and Deyan.

Only ground transport Traditional Turkish gulet boat

Group Size:

Intimate Group - 12 max

Maximum Number of People in Group: 16

Accomodations

A gulet is a traditional twin-mast wooden cruising vessel that originates from the south west coast of Turkey. Gulets vary in length, height, depth and breadth, and it is believed that no two are identical. They range in size typically from 14 to 35 metres, and can comfortably carry/sleep between eight and 30 people. Nowadays, gulets are not rigged for sailing, however all possess diesel engines of varying horsepower. As such, this is not strictly a 'sailing' trip – but an unmissable cruise, all the same!

Your boat:

Alaturka 2

Alaturka 2 is a 25-metre-long gulet built from teak, cashew and pine. It comes complete with a large sundeck and shaded lounge area, giving passengers plenty of room to kick back and relax as they cruise the Mediterranean Sea. The capacity of the gulet is 16 people, with eight cabins in total. Noodles, snorkels and masks are also available on board (not to mention backgammon and cards). Ready to take to the Turkish coastline in style? Yeah, you are!

Boat Crew

Your gulet will have three or four crew members, including a captain, a deckhand and a chef – all of whom will do their utmost to ensure your cruise is the highlight of your experience in Turkey. The captain will be responsible for the gulet while at sea, so it’s important that you heed his advice at all times for your own safety. All of our captains come from the local area and have been sailing this coastline for many years – so you can rest assured that you’re in capable hands!

Your Cabin

Couples, and those who have booked together, will share a private cabin. Some cabins have double beds, some have twin beds and some have bunk beds. Single travellers will share a cabin with another single traveller of the same sex. Your cabin will have enough space for your baggage, and every room will have its own ensuite. Remember: water is limited on boats, so ensure that you use it sparingly!

Meals Included:

All meals are included in the price of your trip (except breakfast and lunch on day one, and lunch and dinner on day eight). Your chef will whip up delicious meals every day, using the best available ingredients.

Breakfast will be Turkish style – including bread, olives, tomatoes, cucumber, eggs and spreads; lunch will be a tasty vegetarian feast; and dinner will always include a meat option – from fish to chicken and meatballs. You will also be served afternoon tea, which comes complete with coffee, tea and biscuits.

Please note: You cannot bring your own drinks on board the gulet. All drinks, including water, are sold on the boat at reasonable prices. If you bring any alcohol on board, the captain and crew have the right to confiscate it.

Please note: At Topdeck we always consider our customers’ health and safety. We ask that you drink responsibly and bear in mind that in some countries, alcohol measures can be considerably larger than what you may be used to. Consider your limits – and remember that Turkey is a beautiful country, which is hard to see while feeling ill!

If you have any dietary requirements we will make every effort to cater to your needs – as long as you advise your travel agent or Customer Service Consultant when you book. You can also make a note of dietary requirements in the Topdeck app when you check in.

Please note: although we will do everything in our power to cater to your needs, we cannot guarantee that this will be possible. We also cannot cater for tastes or dislikes.
