Itinerary

Day 1

All good things start with Paris. Meet the crew, grab some supplies and hit the road early in the morning as we jump across the English Channel. Pinch yourself and Instagram your first selfie before we kick off the trip with a driving tour and picnic next to the Eiffel Tower. Home to Coco Chanel, the Pompidou Centre and the Mona Lisa, Paris more than deserves its reputation as the European capital for all things culture, fashion and food. Now’s your chance to find out why.

Included today:
-Driving tour of Paris and gourmet picnic by the Eiffel Tower

Meals:
-Dinner

Day 2

This morning: free time en Français. From the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay to the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysées, you'll be sure to make a solid dent in your bucket list. Later on, you can stretch those legs on an optional bike tour of Paris, or simply roam the streets on your own. End your day with an optional Seine River cruise or a #throwback bohemian cabaret show.

Meals:
-Breakfast

Optional activities:
-Traditional cabaret show
-Seine river cruise
-Bike tour of Paris

Day 3

Last chance to explore Europe’s most infamous city. Leave no Parisian boulevard un-strolled, no fabulous wines left unopened and no amazing French dish uneaten. How you spend today is totally up to you. Hop to it!

Meals:
-Breakfast

Day 4

Trade in Parisian streets for snowy peaks. Home to the highest point in Europe, 72 waterfalls and one of the largest nature conservations in Switzerland, Lauterbrunnen is where we'll be spending the night. Upon arrival, chow down on fondue and hit the bar for a nightcap.

Meals:
-Breakfast
-Dinner

Day 5

Rise and shine, you’ve got some serious exploring to do. Take the option to hop on the revolving gondola to the top of Mt Titlis and test your pano photo skills. Then head back down in search of the world's best hot chocolate. #hardlife.

Meals:
-Breakfast

Optional activities:
-Scenic excursion to Mt Titlis

Day 6

Trade in your gruezi for bonjour as we follow in Napoleon's footsteps down to the glamorous French Riviera. Try your hand at celeb spotting as you explore the world's most lavish waterfront property.

Meals:
-Breakfast
-Dinner

Day 7

Hit the beach with the paparazzi posse, or go wild in the designer boutiques in Nice's Old Town. Later: roll with the jet set on a guided tour and see how the 1% live (hint: it involves Ferraris and bathing in caviar). Feeling lucky? Hit the tables at the Monte Carlo Casino and make it rain (or not). Also today: a visit to a traditional French perfumery.

Included today:
-Visit a traditional French perfumery
-Walking tour of Monaco

Meals:
-Breakfast

Day 8

Today it’s up and onwards to the renaissance romance of Florence. But first, take THAT shot at the Leaning Tower of Pisa before trucking on to the Tuscan hills outside Florence. Ready to eat, sleep, repeat in the foodie capital of the world?

Included today:
-Visit Pisa and the famous Leaning Tower

Meals:
-Breakfast
-Dinner

Day 9

Time to give that bucket list a workout – we’re off to Rome! Make like Caesar (the emperor, not the salad) and work up a ‘colossus’ hunger as you pass by the Pantheon, throw your two cents in the Trevi Fountain, sit on the Spanish Steps and visit ancient history's version of the Hunger Games set at the Colosseum. Tonight, you're in Disneyland for foodies. Have fun.

Included today:
-Walking tour of Rome
-Walking tour of Florence with a local guide

Meals:
-Breakfast

Day 10

Create the ultimate Roman Holiday in one day with a whirlwind of Vespas, espresso, two-cheek kisses and pizza the way it's supposed to taste. Count your blessings on an optional tour of the Vatican City, then play ‘I-spy’ with two-and-a-half millennia worth of history. Want more? Then you could always shop till you drop on Via Condotti, head to Capitoline Hill for awesome views of the Roman Forum and Colosseum or just kick back in Piazza Navona for some dolce far niente (delicious idleness).

Meals:
-Breakfast

Optional activity:
-Guided tour of Vatican City

Day 11

Maketh haste to fair Verona, the place where Romeo and Juliet found love. Snap a selfie at Juliet’s balcony and join throngs of lovers leaving notes on the wall (or avoid the crowds and just marvel at the ancient arena). Then: say ciao to Venice. Yep, you’re really here!

Included today:
-Walking tour of Verona

Meals:
-Breakfast
-Dinner

Optional activities:
-Get a personalised trip T-shirt or hoodie

Day 12

You know it as The Floating City, but this place is actually sinking (slowly). Today we’ll check out a who's who of Venice's usual suspects on a guided walking tour (ticking off the likes of St Mark's Square and Accademia Bridge), then jump on a gondola ride to get the full experience. Throw away your map in the afternoon and try to find the world's most epic little bookshop, Libreria Acqua Alta, or just go on a mission to find the perfect gelato.

Included today:
-Walking tour of Venice
-Gondola ride

Meals:
-Breakfast

Day 13

With an ancient Roman amphitheatre that doubles as a concert venue, Pula is pretty rad. Gear up for a small-town vibe, endless beaches and the scent of pine.

Meals:
-Breakfast
-Dinner

Day 14

It's a free day in Pula. Explore to your heart's content and soak up this one-of-a-kind paradise.

Meals:

Meals:
-Breakfast

Optional activities:
-Visit the Postojna Caves
-Food tour of Ljubljana

Day 16

So long, farewell, as we set off to Salzburg. But first, a stop at Insta-worthy Lake Bled. Go for a walking tour of Mozart’s birthplace, and play I-spy with the fortress overlooking the city (yeah, we see you Salzburg Castle).

Included today:
-Visit Lake Bled
-Walking tour of Salzburg

Meals:
-Breakfast
-Dinner

Day 17

First, a visit to former concentration camp Mauthausen. Then, we’re off to postcard-perfect Prague. Get acquainted with this awesome place on a walking tour before having dinner as a group.

Included today:
-Visit former concentration camp Mauthausen
-Walking tour of Prague

Meals:
-Breakfast
-Dinner

Day 18

Your day, your way. Channel your inner bohemian and seek out the John Lennon memorial wall, then soak up some more Czech history at the National or Communist Museum or get a taste of the quirky local culture at a marionette puppet opera (you gotta see it to believe it). Want more? Snap a selfie at Prague's own Eiffel Tower, visit a miniatures museum, eat roast pork from one of the street vendors lining Old Town Square and drink beer. Good beer.

Meals:
-Breakfast

Optional activities:
-Local beer tasting

Day 19

Get acquainted with 800 year-old Dresden – a city virtually destroyed in WWII and then rebuilt – and check out the Frauenkirche before we make tracks to Berlin. Prep yourself for currywurst, absinthe and more hipsters per capita than anywhere else. We'll drive you around to see (what's left of) the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag building. Dinner’s on us tonight.

Included today:
-Walking tour of the restored city of Dresden
-Driving tour of Berlin

Meals:
-Breakfast
-Dinner

Day 20

Today, why not step out on an optional Third Reich walking tour for a local insight into what the city was like under Nazi rule during World War II? Kreuzberg is a hit for lunch. Meals:
-Breakfast

-Street art and nightlife tour of Berlin

Day 21

Start dreaming of cheese, clogs and cheeky café stops as we roll through tulip and windmill dotted fields to Amsterdam. DAM it's going to be a good day! Learn how cheddar and clogs are made, then get your bearings on a walking tour of the vibrant capital. We’re talking the Dam Square, the Royal Palace and the National Monument, so get your cameras at the ready. For the perfect end to the perfect day, give in to temptation and grab a cone of hot chips with mayo. Mmm.

Amazing staff who are very friendly and also extremely knowledgeable. My trip was amazing and I enjoyed every minute of it. I did the Spirit of Europe last year and couldn’t recommend Topdeck enough.

I jumped on this tour with very little notice and planning, and I was thoroughly impressed. Our Topdeck trip leader was very knowledgeable, fun, and adjusted the trip to the group (34 people). The meals provided were delicious, and they worked hard to cater to dietary needs. Accommodations were good, typically with 2-6 people in a hostel room. Keep in mind they are hostels, not hotels (bring your own towel).

I loved the itinerary, as it highlighted the must-see places and had variety (ex. Paris, Rome vs. Switzerland). The optionals in each city were all wonderful. However, many were not presented in the Topdeck literature online and were not introduced on the trip more than a day in advance. All are paid for in cash (Euros). Because of how the optionals were presented, it was a bit harder to budget. I would recommend inquiring more about the optionals when booking and at the beginning of your tour via your trip leader. Don't feel pressured to do all of them and remember to keep your own interests in mind.

The solo travelers easily found others with similar interests to explore with. For many on this trip, drinking and going out to bars/clubs was a major component (as alcohol is often cheaper than water). Because of the shortness of this tour along with all the destinations, prepare for lots of driving and to make the most of the time you have in each city.

This trip provided am amazing sampling of Western Europe and opened my eyes to cultures and history I was unfamiliar with. Overall, I would highly recommend this itinerary and touring company, as it provided a good balance between budget and experiences.

P.S. Stay flexible with plans, but some of the popular sights need more pre-planning than expected, like the Eiffel Tower and the Anne Frank House (Amsterdam).

Overall amazing value. Food, particularly by Topdeck staff, excellent. Spontaneous/flexible; be prepared to pay for lots of extra excursions, on and off your itinerary, in cash.

Food was excellent. Accomodations were better than expected: hostels, but usually with in-suite bathrooms and always only with other members of your tour of the same gender. Don't try to overplan; trip is quite spontaneous and flexible and you won't know much about the schedule/optionals for each city more than a day or so in advance. Optionals will be plentiful and paid in cash. Only do those that are right for you, even if your trip leader really encourages them and most other people are going. These trips are great for solo travelers, but make sure you find people interested in the same things as you...it will probably be easy to find groups to go to bars and clubs with in the evenings, but harder to find people who prefer other evening plans. Driver was excellent and bus was very comfortable and clean, but be prepared to spend a lot of time on it as there is no driving at night. Trip leader extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and helpful. Overall, excellent value and a trip with plenty of time to see the bucket list highlights in each city.

Did Uluru discovery in Australia and Grand Kiwi in NZ back in November and it was the most amazing experience ever! Awesome guide and driver. Well organized and took great care of us!
Only one bad hostel accommodation wise, but other than that it was amazing.
It was so nice not having to worry about accommodations, transportation, and most meals when we got there! On the days it wasn’t included, the guide/driver would tell us what’s in the area!
For sure will be doing another topdeck tour in the future!

My partner and I just completed the 20 day Discover Winter tour and it was absolutely outstanding! What really made the trip though was the Trip Leader, Alex, and the driver, Deyan. They were both extremely knowledgeable people and explained everything we needed to know to enjoy every place we went to. I highly recommend this tour and hope that everybody else has the opportunity to meet Alex and Deyan.

Accomodations

We endeavour to select a combination of good quality hotels that reflect the character of the local area as well as being as centrally located as possible, while striving to keep the cost affordable.

Your trip will stay in a range of European hotels of three and four-star quality.

Please be aware that European hotel rooms, especially those in major urban centres or older cities, may be smaller than what you are used to in other parts of the world. Standards and ratings may also be different to your home country.

Rooms are en-suite and either twin, double or triple-share, depending on what you have booked. If you are a solo traveller, you will always be sharing a room with someone of the same sex unless you have paid an extra fee for your own room.

If you are travelling as a couple and would prefer to have a double bed, please officially request a double room with your travel agent or Customer Service Consultant. We never presume that two people travelling together are a couple, even if you share the same surname, unless informed otherwise.
