Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Beijing

Accommodation: The Great Wall Hotel Beijing  - the former Sheraton

The prelude of your 8 days guided tours of China starts when you meet your professional local guide at Beijing Airport after reclaiming your luggage and clearing customs. Your guide will accompany you in a comfortable vehicle to the hotel and help you with the check-in procedure. The rest of the day is left for you to have a good rest or to become familiar with our capital city on your own.

Day 2: Beijing

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Today your memorable tour starts! You will meet your group members in the hotel lobby and have a short meeting. Then head to the first stop, Tiananmen Square, the biggest urban city square in the world. From there you will enter the Imperial Palace, also known as the Forbidden City to explore its fascinating halls and pavilions. Here, you will not only learn how the emperor handled political affairs and lived their lives, but appreciate numerous ancient art treasures.

At noon, an a la carte welcome lunch (valued at CNY150.00 per person and included in our price) will be served at a superb local restaurant, where you can have a taste of authentic Chinese food and the most famous Peking Roast Duck.

In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Heaven, where the emperors worshipped the heavens in hopes of good harvests.  To round out a memorable start to your travel, we will arrange a lively and dramatic Chinese Kung Fu Show at the Red Theater.

Day 3: Beijing

Meals: Breakfast

This morning we will take you to Mutianyu section to experience at first hand the wonder of the Great Wall. The round-trip cable car will be arranged. Standing on the wall and looking at it stretching up and down into boundless distance is an exciting experience and will leave you a life-long memory. To celebrate and commemorate this moment, we specially provide red wine for a group-toasting on the Great Wall.

The restaurants nearby are not up to our serving standard, so we do not arrange lunch today. We suggest you have a hearty breakfast in the hotel and have some fast food for lunch by yourself. Our guide will show you some restaurants around.

In the afternoon, on the way back you will have a photo stop at the Olympic National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest. After that, enjoy some free time to explore a popular local market.

Day 4: Beijing - Xi'an

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Accommodation: Sheraton Hotel

The first stop of today's itinerary is the Summer Palace - the largest existing imperial garden with a graceful landscape and magnificent constructions. Then a trip to the old Hutongs will conclude your memorable Beijing tour. Taking the local rickshaw and traveling along the narrow lanes, you will get a close touch with the original Beijing lifestyle and culture. You will also have a chance to try your hand at Chinese Paper Cutting.

At noon, we will serve you an a la carte lunch (valued at CNY150.00 per person and included in our price) at a fancy restaurant with delicious food and great atmosphere.

In the afternoon your guide will see you off at the airport for the flight to Xi'an. On your arrival, your Xi'an local guide will meet you outside the baggage claim area and transfer you to the downtown area to check in at the hotel for a two-night stay.

Day 5: Xi'an

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

The visit to the magnificent Terracotta Army will start your day's trip. In the museum, there are altogether three excavated pits exhibiting amazing warrior figures and Chinese ancient weapons.

At noon, a special home-cooked a la carte lunch (valued at CNY120.00 per person and included in our price) will be served at a local home that you visit. Particularly, you can learn to cook Chinese food from the hostess. It is a good chance for you to learn more about the local family and will be one of the most memorable parts of your trip.

In the afternoon, you will visit Xi'an Museum and then the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, which was built about 1,300 years ago in the Tang Dynasty to store the Buddhist scriptures brought from ancient India. A splendid evening is in store when you will be entertained by the Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Show while partaking of the famous Dumpling Dinner.

Day 6: Xi'an – Shanghai

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Accommodation: Crowne Plaza Century Park Shanghai

he day begins with a leisure visit to the City Wall Park, where you can observe the day-to-day life of the locals. We also have a special arrangement for you here. That is to practice Tai Chi with the master. Tai Chi, a soft form of Chinese martial arts, is considered the quintessential Chinese culture. After that, you will pay a visit to the City Wall. It is the most complete existing urban fortification in China. Cycling on the ancient wall is an exciting experience that many people like to try (bike rental fee is not included).

You will enjoy an a la carte lunch (valued at CNY120.00 per person and included in our price) at a famous local restaurant.

In the afternoon, you will board the flight to Shanghai. Your local guide will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to the hotel.

Day 7: Shanghai

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Local retired people playing Tai-chi at the Bund of Shanghai

A day journey will show you the essence of Shanghai. This morning, you will visit one of the four largest museums in China, Shanghai Museum, which specializes in exhibiting art works from ancient times. After that, explore Yu Garden and its nearby traditional bazaar. The symbol of the Garden is the Nine Zigzag Bridge built of granite and grass-white jade and the quaint, elegant mid-lake pavilion.

Around noon, an a la carte farewell lunch (valued at CNY120.00 per person and included in our price) will be served to you at a very nice restaurant.

In the afternoon, you will first discover the Former French Concession, a great place to learn the history and unique beauty of the city. Then wander in the prosperous Bund area and take a one-hour cruise tour along the Huangpu River. Upon returning to the hotel, our guide will see you into the lobby to say bon voyage.

Day 8: Departure from Shanghai

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast at the hotel, you will travel to the airport for your homeward flight. Your 8 days China tour package is wane to the close with wonderful memories. We suggest you reserve a taxi at the hotel reception beforehand to avoid having to wait for a taxi outside. The trip to Pudong Airport (PVG) will take about one hour and cost around CNY150. Ensure you have at least an hour and a half drive if your flight leaves from Hongqiao Airport (SHA). The cost for the taxi there is about CNY200. Please check carefully from which airport your flight will depart. We wish you a smooth journey home.

Alternatively, should you wish to stay on rather than return home right away, we would be glad to assist you for an extension trip!

In 2014 we traveled to China using this company. We were so happy with our choice that this year we went on another tour, this time a semiprivate guided tour to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Booking trips through the internet always feels a bit risky but I fully recommend anyone to use Travel China Guide. We would not have been able to see half of what we did without a guided tour. The guides were professionals, the hotels were mostly 4 stars, only one was 5 star and good quality. All my correspondence with Abbey from Xian was quick, precise and friendly. We actually met her too when the group visited Xian.

This is the second time that we used Travel China Guide to visit China, and we could not be more pleased! This agency has been very easy to work with; their agents have always been prompt and responsive to any of our questions regarding our arrangements and itineraries. We were provided with a guide who was friendly, knowledgeable, understanding of our needs, and pleasantly flexible when we made some very last minute changes to our itinerary. We were provided with contact information for twenty four hour support, which, thanks to Travel China Guide’s careful planning and attention to detail, we never had to use. I would highly recommend this agency for your travel plans to China!

We booked three different train tickets through them and everything went flawless - it was worth every penny we spent. We couldn't be more satisfied with Travel China Guide Tours. The high quality of their service is difficult to find even here in Germany (where we come from). We also booked two tickets for the Forbidden City and it also went flawless.

I would use their services again and would definitely recommend them for anyone traveling to China.

We undertook a 3 day Private Tour with Chinatravelguide.
The tour was excellent. Our driver Mr John and the guide Matthew where wonderful and ensured we arrived safely everywhere went, whilst providing in depth information about the places we visited.

This was the first time we have used this type of service and it enabled us to see so much more in the timeframe we had available. I have already and will continue to recommend travelchinaguide to my friends and family. Our favourite part of the tour was the visit to the Great Wall due to how spectacular it is and the toboggan ride down the hill.

Nothing was to difficult for our guide or driver and this ensured we were about to see alot more than we expected in the short time we had in Beijing. The booking process and correspondence with our consultant (Emily) was excellent.
