Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Split, transfer to Supetar on the island of Brac

On arrival at Split Airport you will be transferred by local bus and ferry (50 minutes) to Brac island where you will overnight. The remainder of the day is free to explore the town and surrounding countryside.

Day 2: Ascend Vidova Gora (778m / 2552ft) and return to Supetar (45km / 28mi)

Meals: Breakfast

A reasonably demanding cycle today past picturesque villages with white stone houses and shady pine forest. On the hillside of Vidova Gora 778m / 2552ft (the highest peak of all the Croatian Islands) you will have great views of the sea and mainland and from the top a view out to the famous Zlatni rat, an extraordinary shingle spit and the neighbouring islands. Return via Škrip, the island’s oldest settlement and Splitska and cool off by the wonderful pebble beach on the way.

Day 3: By boat to the island of Hvar, Cycle to Hvar Town (20km / 12.5mi)

Meals: Breakfast

The morning begins with a transfer by boat to the island of Hvar (via Split) and the town of Stari Grad / Pharos, the oldest town in Croatia. Stari Grad literally translates as ‘old town’ and was established in 384BC. From town Stari Grad the cycle continues to historic Hvar town. On arrival there is free time to explore Hvar town with its exquisite Venetian-style architecture or climb up to the fortress for a superb view. It is worth taking a boat to the Pakleni islands that are the most attractive and most visited spot. They can be reached from Hvar by motor boats that leave every 15 minutes. The islands, acting as a natural shelter for Hvar port, have been inhabited since Illyrian times. Overnight Hvar Town.

Day 4: Cycle to Stari Grad (20km / 12.5mi)

Meals: Breakfast

Return to Stari Grad for overnight accommodation. The remainder of the day is free to explore the town and surrounds. Overnight in an apartment.

Day 5: Cycle east to Jelsa famous for its production of red wines (15km / 9.5mi)

Meals: Breakfast

Your exploration of the island of Hvar continues by cycling east to Jelsa. The town is quite small but is well known for producing excellent red wines. We just completed a 6 day self guided walk in the Pyrenees on the Cathar Castle trail. It was a great experience. Good accomodation, food and scenery. Everything was really well organised bar a couple of very minor hiccups involving taxis but nothing major. We would highly recommend this trip

Had an amazing time on the Full Spanish Camino! Utracks organised all the luggage transfers and accommodation. Did a combination of self-guided hiking and cycling, which was the best way to go. Bike hire came with panniers, and the self-guided maps and guides provided were easy to follow. Would do it again in a heartbeat!

Have just had an incredible week cycling along the Danube River through Germany, Austria and Bratislava on a UTracks Bike & Barge trip with my partner. We did a self-guided trip with electric bikes so we could set our own pace each day, stopping for long lunches in the sunshine, wine tastings, coffee in gorgeous ancient villages and side trips to castles, imperial palaces and monasteries, before returning to our boat each afternoon in time for drinks on the sundeck. I loved waking up on our boat in a new destination each day ready to explore the European countryside. Cannot wait for my next UTracks adventure.

My wife and I really enjoyed our first time self guiding with UTracks, walking in the Sierra de Grazalema National Park. The scenery, local hospitality, accommodations and meals were all fantastic! My wife planned the trip for us and is the keen walker but now I think I'll be hooked. I'm ready to plan my next adventure. Thanks UTracks!

A note on our self guided adventures Self guided walking or cycling requires individuals to use problem solving skills, be adaptable and have a keen eye. On self guided cycling tours it is expected that you will know how to repair punctures and make minor adjustments to gears, handlebars and seats. For anything more serious, our local partner will be able to assist. It is recommended that you are comfortable map reading, referring to route notes and that you have a good sense of direction (or are willing to work on improving this!) Sometimes route finding, losing your way, finding it again and asking the locals for help is all part of the adventure. If you’ve never been on a self guided trip, after the first couple of days you will get the hang of it as the vast majority of our first time travellers attest. Please be assured that our written material issued to you for route finding is updated regularly and we provide a 7day service hotline in the event of any problems. Using directions and maps can be more difficult for solo travellers as often two heads are better than one when it comes to finding your way. There is a certain level of the unknown that comes with self guided trips, however with a methodical approach potential problems will be averted. The freedom of a self guided trip is something that, once experienced, is sought time and time again.
