Short Description

Step back in time as you visit British, Scottish, and French-Canadian maritime ports. Marvel at natural wonders such as Saint John’s reversing rapids, the Rock of Percé, Acadia National Park, and magical Prince Edward Island, home of the beloved Anne of Green Gables. You will also take in the spectacular sights of whale watching in Tadoussac located on the north-west shore of the Saint Lawrence River.

These vessels are smaller than most ocean cruisers, limiting which amenties are available. Passenger counts can vary. One of the biggest advantages of a river cruise is the ability to dock at smaller ports and local villages.

Itinerary

Day 1: Halifax, Nova Scotia

The elegant M/V Victory II awaits you at the Halifax Pier. Once aboard, enjoy the welcoming hospitality and personalized attention of our friendly and professional onboard staff. Settle into your stateroom before joining your fellow guests for dinner with free flowing house wines and cocktails.

Day 2: Canso Canal

As we sail toward Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island, we’ll navigate through the Strait of Canso. This strait divides the Nova Scotia peninsula from Cape Breton Island. It is a thin channel approximately 16 and a half miles long and averages almost 2 miles wide (0.62 miles at its narrowest). The strait is crossed by the Canso Causeway for vehicular and rail traffic, which opened in 1955. The Canso Canal allows ships to pass through the causeway, and this can accommodate any vessel capable of transiting the St. Lawrence Seaway. Get ready with your camera to capture the landscapes and when the bridge over the canal swings open to let the M/V Victory II pass through.

Day 3: Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Located on Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest and most charming province, Charlottetown showcases a wealth of natural beauty and history. In the morning, coaches leave the port and follow the historic trail walked by delegates to the conference that led to the Confederation of Canada. We will make our way along the famous North Shore to Cavendish Bay, in Prince Edward Island National Park, to the farmstead that inspired L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables. Enjoy a tour of the house, stroll the haunted woods, Lovers’ Lane, and the famous white shores of the bay. Visit the charming city center before returning to the ship for an exceptional dinner overlooking the sea.

Day 4: Gaspé Peninsula

From the seaside town of Gaspé, we’ll take a scenic one-hour coach ride to Percé where you’ll board a boat and cruise to the Rock of Percé, a dramatic natural rock formation just off shore. Then we’ll continue to Bonaventure Island, a former mecca for poets and painters and home of 293 different bird species— including puffins, cormorants, boreal chickadees, and one of the largest colonies of gannets.

Day 5: Scenic Sailing of St. Lawrence River

Experience the extraordinary scale of the St. Lawrence seaway as we enter the Gulf of St. Lawrence. For centuries, the St. Lawrence River has served as an important route for trade and travel, connecting the Atlantic maritime traffic with the the world’s largest source of freshwater — the Great Lakes. The river spans 744 miles, beginning at the outflow of Lake Ontario near Kingston and flowing northeast into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Enjoy a day of beautiful vistas and serene sailing as we make our way through the Gulf towards the mouth of the river.

Day 6: Whale Watching / Tadoussac

Tadoussac, where the St. Lawrence River meets the outflow of the Saguenay River, is one of the most exciting whale-watching sites in the world. Between May and October, up to 13 species of cetaceans make their way upriver from the Atlantic Ocean, to become temporary residents in the salty rich waters of the St. Lawrence. These sea mammals include blue whales, the largest animals on the planet, and the impressive humpbacks, which swim up into the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord near Tadoussac to feed. The M/V Victory II makes a rendezvous with our whale watching boat off the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord and guests transfer onto the “Grand Fleuve”, which is staffed by a crew who are experts in whale behaviour.

Day 7: Québec City, Québec

Quebec City is the only walled community in North America and is deeply engaged in preserving its history and its unique place in Canada. Coaches depart for the Plains of Abraham where the battle between invading English and French defenders took place as the English stormed the upper city and captured the town. Onward to Place Royale in the lower-town, which was bombarded in 1759 from across the river, as fire ships were dispatched towards the port. We then drive out of Quebec City to see the historical and majestic Montmorency Falls, including a cable car ride to the top where you will have magnificent views across to the Ile d’Orléans. In the afternoon, guests are encouraged to stroll on their own out the port to visit the Petit Champlain and take the funicular railway to the Chateau Frontenac and its magnificent Dufferin Terrace.

Day 8: Montréal, Québec

In 2017, Montreal celebrated its 375th birthday, making it one of the oldest cities in North America. Situated on the St. Lawrence River, it remains important crossroads for shipping by land and sea, with a rich history of Iroquois, colonial, and cosmopolitan settlements. Enjoy a walking tour of the Old City with a visit to the Notre Dame Basilica. Explore Montreal old and new with a drive through the downtown business district to the top of Mont Royal for a commanding view of the city and the St. Lawrence River. Afterwards, visit one of the world’s largest and most important Botanical Gardens in downtown Montreal.

Day 9: Scenic Sailing of St. Lawrence River

Delight in this day of cruising aboard the M/V Victory II as we navigate the St. Lawrence River. The spectacular coastline offers unrivaled natural beauties: dramatic cliffs, colorful foliage, historic cityscapes, vibrant with birds and marine life. Take in the changing views as you stroll the wooden decks, tuck into an inviting deck chair, or refresh with a meal or high tea in one of our sophisticated onboard restaurants.

Day 10: Toronto, Ontario

Welcome to Toronto, the most multicultural diverse city on the planet: over 140 languages are spoken.  It’s estimated that over half of Toronto’s residents were born outside Canada, and despite its complex makeup, Torontonians generally get along.  Toronto is a vibrant, big-time city abuzz with activity.  Some of the world’s finest restaurants are found here, alongside happening bars and clubs and eclectic festivals.  After breakfast, you’ll disembark the M/V Victory I, and make your way to the airport for your flight home.

Day 11: Niagara Lakes / Port Colborne

After a leisurely morning on board, we’ll disembark the ship at Port Colbourne on the souther end of the Welland Canal. The original Welland Canal was opened in 1829 and was extended to reach Lake Erie in 1833. The current canal was completed in 1932 and boasts eight locks. At Niagara Falls, we’ll embark on the famous Hornblower “Voyage of the Falls” for a cruise into the misty spray of Horseshoe Falls. Back on shore, we’ll drive along the scenic Niagara Parkway, through the charming Chateau des Charmes for lunch and wine-tasting. After lunch, we’ll continue to the town of Niagara0on-the-Lake to peruse the shops and galleries before rejoining the ship at Port Colbourne.

Day 12: Cleveland, Ohio

Located on the shores of Lake Erie, Cleveland represents the heartland of American life and history. Industrial landmarks from its days as a lakeside manufacturing town still stand as testament to Cleveland’s roots. Today, the city is also filled with beautiful urban spaces and is home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Explore the evolution of the musical genre that shaped a generation and track its cultural impact, housed in a striking structure designed by I. M. Pei. You’ll also explore the wonderful West Side Market, set in a 1912 landmark and home to more than 100 vendors.

Day 13: Detroit, Michigan

Sailing from Lake Huron to Lake Erie, we will call on Detroit, Michigan signaling the end of our journey. After breakfast, you’ll disembark the M/V Victory II and make your way to the airport for your flight home.

This was a great trip for sites and history of this region and i thoroughly enjoyed the every bit of it. It was a great experience.
The crew was very nice and made every effort to make you comfortable.
There appeared to be some new crew members that were not as good as others but did try hard and by the end of the trip were getting their stride.
The food was average but gave a good variety and was always fresh. The rooms were not fancy, but clean and the crew did of great job of daily cleaning and bed change.
The excursions were included which was great and the tour guides in each stop were well educated and informative on the history of their tour.
Slower pace and relaxing. i would recommend this trip for those 50+ since not a party boat but designed for site seeing and exploration.

Daily info on the navigation route....what is being passed, interesting history, special navigation required etc. at sea day would be a great time for a talk on the river.

more info on the ports and hints on “to do” options. Interesting things to see/do beyond the scheduled tours. Hop on, hop off options so those that want to spend more time at the art gallery can do so...those that want to do walking tours can do so etc. maps showing options and pick up locations

Add buffet to lunch in dining room or replace lunch with a buffet. This may be a nice option for breakfast too. FOOD WAS GREAT!

Have urns of coffee or brewed pots available in the lounge by 6a with to go cups for those that want to take a cup back to the room

A great trip...we have recommended to others.

We were on the inaugural cruise for Victory II from Montreal to Detroit. It was a special price and was worth every penny! there were some issues due to the newness of the ship, but the crew and staff worked overtime to correct them. The food was good and the company even better. They will be adding more local info lectures in the future and local entertainment as they took down all our suggestions. I had to go to the doctor and she was helpful and I used the spa for a massage that helped immensely.
The tours were great and included in the price.

Hope to take advantage of future specials.

This cruise was very good. The rooms were passable with a shower so tiny that a big man would touch all sides of the space.....but you can manage. The service was excellent and the food was very good. Some of the excursions were very good and some were a waste of time. On one island we traveled by bus for 30 minutes to a curio and craft shop.....very bad. Do not do the arranged tour of Toronto. They stopped at 3 retail outlets and missed almost everything about Toronto that is wonderfull. We did a hop-on-hop-off tour the next day that was much better.
