Short Description

During this tour explore historic and cultural cities of Japan and also its natural beauty. Discover Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple and enjoy spectacular views over the Fuji Five Lakes. Visiting the Takayama city, UNESCO World Heritage-listed Shirakawago and cultural Kyoto. Explore  Todaiji Temple in Nara and enjoy cruise along the Yodogawa River in Osaka.

Days 1 – 2: Fly to Tokyo

Accommodation: Local Four-star Standard Hotel

Depart on your overnight flight from the USA. Upon arrival in Tokyo, you will be welcomed by your Wendy Wu representative and transferred to your hotel.

Day 3: Tokyo

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Local Four-star Standard Hotel

Take a city tour of Tokyo, beginning with a leisurely stroll through Hamarikyu Gardens. Cruise along the Sumida River to Asakusa to visit the renowned Sensoji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple, before a wander down the Nakamise shopping street. After lunch, drive past the impressive Imperial Palace and visit Meiji Shrine before ascending the dizzy heights of Tokyo Tower for sweeping views over the city.

Day 4: Day Tour to Mount Fuji

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Local Four-star Standard Hotel

An early start to travel to Hakone, the gateway to Mount Fuji and its surrounding national park. Journey up to Mount Fuji’s 5th station to enjoy spectacular views over the Fuji Five Lakes before taking a cruise across Lake Ashinoko. Ride up to Mount Owakudani in the world’s second longest cable car where, at the top, you can try an egg hardboiled in the sulphuric hot springs!

Day 5: Tokyo to Takayama, Japan

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Local Four-star Standard Hotel

Travel to Takayama, stopping en route at Matsumoto Castle and to enjoy lunch at a wasabi farm where you can enjoy a tour and try your hand at pickling wasabi vegetables. In Takayama your accommodation includes hot spring baths (onsen), perfect for a relaxing soak after a long day of sightseeing. For dinner enjoy a sumptuous kaiseki multicourse meal using the freshest seasonal ingredients.

Day 6: Takayama

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Today we visit the Miyagawa morning market where stalls sell local crafts and produce. Next is the Takayama Festival Floats Museum, which comprises displays of ornate floats from the famous Takayama festival. Visit the Kusakabe Folk Museum with its traditional architecture of the Edo period. We end our day with a visit to one of Takayama's many sake breweries for a taste of the local drop.

Day 7: Takayama to Kanazawa

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Local Four-star Standard Hotel

Travel to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Shirakawago, famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses. After taking a walk through the village, continue to a neighboring town with an opportunity to try your hand at making Japanese washi paper. After lunch, continue to Kanazawa, where we visit the Nomura Samurai House to see how the Samurai once lived. We then enjoy a walk through the Old District.

Day 8: Kanazawa to Kyoto

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Local Four-star Standard Hotel

Take a morning stroll through the beautiful Kenroku-en Garden (the Garden of the Six Sublimities) before taking in the culture at the Kanazawa Museum. After a lunch of local fare transfer to the railway station to board the Thunderbird Express train to Kyoto, Japan’s cultural capital.

Day 9: Kyoto

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Local Four-star Standard Hotel

Visit Nijo Castle and one of Kyoto’s Zen temples, where there will be the opportunity to take part in a meditation class with a Buddhist priest. Continue on to the famous Kinkakuji Temple, known as the Golden Pavilion followed by a visit to a traditional wooden townhouse to learn about origami, calligraphy and the art of Ikebana. You can also take part in a tea ceremony. End the day with a visit to Kiyomizu Temple and a stroll through Higashiyama District.

Day 10: Kyoto – Day Tour to Nara

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Local Four-star Standard Hotel

Travel to Nara. For 74 years during the 8th century the city was Japan’s capital – many of the temples and shrines built at this time still remain to be explored. Visit Todaiji Temple, the world’s largest wooden structure, Kasuga Taisha, Nara’s most celebrated shrine and finally wander through Nara Park. Return to Kyoto via Fushimi Inari Shrine.

Day 11: Kyoto to Koya-San

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Local Four-star Standard Hotel

Today, we travel to Koya-San, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site and home to over 100 temples. The center of Shingon Buddhism for over 1,200 years, we visit Kongobunji Temple, the head monastery and Okunoin, Japan's largest cemetery. Feel the calm and tranquillity in our shukubo accommodation, part of a Buddhist Temple. Enjoy traditional Buddhist vegetarian cuisine, called shojin ryori.

Day 12: Koya-San to Osaka

Rise early this morning to witness the monks chant their morning prayers, followed by a traditional shojin ryori breakfast. Later drive to Osaka, known for its flamboyance, fun loving people and amazing food. We visit Osaka Castle, known for its sweeping views of the city from its hilltop perch and take a cruise along the Yodogawa River. Osaka is known as Japan's Kitchen and tonight we wander the Dotonbori, a restaurant mecca, where you can sample local delicacies before enjoying a sumptuous farewell dinner.

Day 13: Osaka to USA

Meals: Breakfast

Transfer to the Osaka airport for your flight back to the USA.

If you wish to cancel a confirmed booking, you must do so by writing to our office. Cancellation charges are based on the date of receipt of your written confirmation. Cancellation charges as a percentage of the total vacation cost are:

65 or more days - Retention of deposit

64 – 42 days - 30% of booking value

41 – 30 days  - 60% of booking value

29 – 14 days - 90% of booking value

Fewer than 14 days - 100% of booking value
