Day 1: Depart USA

Depart the USA on a scheduled Cathay Pacific flight to Shanghai.

Day 2: Arrive in Shanghai

Arrive in Shanghai where you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Take some time to settle in before sitting down to dinner.

Day 3: Discover Shanghai

Shanghai is a city fronted by towering skyscrapers, but you'll also find plenty of fascinating history and culture behind this gleaming facade. Spend the day exploring the traditional Chinese Yu Gardens, rediscovering history on the bustling streets of the old town and viewing the antiquities of the Shanghai Museum. You will then admire the magnificent architecture with a stroll along the riverfront Bund before finally venturing out on the Huangpu River for a cruise. Today you will also have the option to try out the impressive Shanghai Maglev train, which travels at a speed of over 200mph. All optional extra activities are bookable and payable locally; and subject to availability.

Day 4: Board Your Cruise Ship

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Spend the morning exploring the futuristic cityscape of Pudong where you will have the option of ascending to the top of the landmark Jin Mao Tower. Fly to Yichang and transfer to your Yangtze River Cruise vessel. Take some time to settle in before enjoying dinner onboard.

Days 5-7: Cruise the Yangtze River

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Sit back and relax as you cruise along the Yangtze, admiring the ever-changing passing scenery. See a massive man-made marvel - the Three Gorges Dam, revel in the dramatic nature of the Three Gorges themselves, and enjoy side trips along the Shennong Stream and to the Ghost City of Fengdu.

Day 8: Visit the Pandas

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Golden Flower Hotel or Similar

Disembark your Yangtze cruise at Chongqing. Head to Chongqing Zoo to visit the eight furry residents of the Panda House before travelling to the airport to fly to Xian. On arrival transfer to your hotel before enjoying dinner. This evening you have the option of taking a night tour of the Great Tang Ever-bright City.

Day 9: Terracotta Warriors

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Spend the morning admiring the Terracotta Warriors - these ranks of intricately crafted soldiers, created to guard the tomb of China's first Emperor Qin Shi Huang, are a truly impressive sight. Later, back in Xian, stroll along the beautifully preserved 14th century city walls. This evening you can add on a night of dumplings and a tang dynasty dance show.

Day 10: Explore Beijing

Catch a morning flight from Xian to Beijing. Whilst China's capital is a thoroughly modern city at first glance, at its heart you'll find a millennia's worth of fascinating history which you will start to explore this afternoon. Marvel at the huge expanse of Tiananmen Square before wandering through the magnificent Forbidden City, a legacy of China's imperial past. This evening you have two optional activities - dining on Beijing's most famous delicacies, Peking Duck, and a showcase of the ancient Chinese martial art Kung Fu.

Day 11: The Great Wall of China

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Jiangxi Grand Hotel or Similar

Today see one of China's most iconic sights the Great Wall. Stretching thousands of miles through a series of dramatic landscapes, a walk on this impressive feat of engineering will be a highlight of your trip. Returning to the city take a relaxed stroll through the traditional gardens of the Summer Palace, admiring its exquisite architecture as you go. Enjoy dinner this evening before considering a spectacular acrobatics show to round off the day.

Day 12: Fly Home

64 – 42 days - 30% of booking value

41 – 30 days  - 60% of booking value

29 – 14 days - 90% of booking value

Fewer than 14 days - 100% of booking value
