  • Delightful meals brimming with fresh and local produce, including Gower mussels, Welsh lamb, wine and cheese tastings
  • Be welcomed into local homes for a classic Welsh meal
  • Meet scholars, weavers, climbers, and historians
  • Accommodations include historic coaching inns and a royal country home

Ancient Celtic traditions, a rich cultural heritage, and an impossibly beautiful landscape converge in Wales, making it the perfect setting for our new hiking adventure. You’ll discover the stunning trails of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, hike into the exquisite Wye Valley, and explore the haunting ruins of Tintern Abbey. The Welsh are natural storytellers, and we’ll meet weavers, scholars, a Cistercian monk—even a coracle enthusiast. Our meals are wonderfully local, from delightful cheeses to fresh-picked mussels and scallops, and of course you’ll have a taste of world renowned Welsh lamb. As we journey from the castle-topped ridges of the Brecon Beacons to coastal villages and the mountains of Snowdonia, you’ll enjoy overnights in historic coaching inns, a royal country home, and, perhaps most memorably, be welcomed by Welsh families for a home-cooked meal.

Days 1-3: Wye Valley / Tintern Abbey / Brecon Beacons National Park

Accommodation: Bear Hotel

Hiking across the historic border into Wales, we enter Wye Valley to discover the haunting ruins of Tintern Abbey with a “white monk.” Another hike brings us to the literary mecca of Hay on Wye where bookshelves line the sidewalks and are tucked into the town’s meandering stone walls.

Days 4-6: Laugharne / Pembrokeshire Coastal Path / Solva

Accommodation: Warpool Court

We visit the home of Dylan Thomas with a scholar, then head to tiny St. David’s, the spiritual center of Wales. The most dramatic stretches of the Coastal Path are right outside our hotel’s door, and we’ll follow sea-cliff trails to the lovely village of Solva, savor a meal at an award-winning local restaurant, and join the 1,000 year old tradition of evensong at St. David’s cathedral.

Days 7-10: Snowdonia National Park / Capel Curig / Beddgelert / Snowdon

Accommodation: Days 7 to 9 : Castle Hotel; Day 10: Plas Dinas Country House

Heading to the rugged beauty of Snowdonia National Park, our hike brings you through lush Conwy Valley to Capel Curig, where Hillary’s team trained for the 1953 Everest expedition—the pub is filled with historic climbing mementos. We’ll summit mighty Snowdon, Britain’s highest peak, via the Victorian-era train, so that you can savor the wild mountain scenery on the hike down.

Days 11-12: Caernarfon Castle/ Anglesey Island

Accommodation: Day 11: Plas Dinas Country House

Explore the ramparts of 13th century Caernarfon Castle, then we’ll hike to tiny LLanddwyn Island, with its church dedicated to the patron saint of Welsh lovers, and enjoy views to the mountains of Snowdonia. Depart on Day 12.
