With our renowned “dream team,” marine biologists and veteran Trip Leaders Lee Goldman and Ethan Daniels, you’ll experience some of the top snorkeling on the planet—from huge fish like giant trevallys, groupers, and sweetlips to schools of tiny iridescent anthias. Rounding out our adventure are visits to fishing villages and island hikes, including one to see the world-famed Komodo dragons in the wild. Days 1-3: Denpasar / Flores / Kelor / Tatawa Besar and Kecil / Makassar Reef
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Boarding our traditional 98-foot wooden schooner on Flores Island, we cruise to Kelor for fantastic snorkeling in waters just six feet deep, then head to Tatawa Besar and Tatawa Kecil, where a drift snorkel reveals groupers, snappers, and jacks. At Makassar Reef, you’ll snorkel among schools of mantas that congregate here to feed on plankton.
Days 4-7: Komodo Island / Komodo Dragons
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
On our naturalist-led hike, we’ll look for the legendary komodo dragons, the largest living lizards on earth. Snorkeling at Padar Island includes magnificent soft coral gardens by a pink sand beach and a quiet bay where baby sharks and nudibranchs can be found. On a drift snorkel we’ll watch for turtles, moray eels, blacktip sharks, and rare scorpionfish, while the currents at Shot Gun Channel float us above shallow corals where colorful reef fish feed.
Days 8-11: Sangeang / Pulau Satonda
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Snorkel the mysterious underwater caves and canyons of Sangeang, with the chance to spot the rare clown bleeny, and visit the fishing village of Bonto. Fields of garden eels poke out their heads on the reefs of Pulau Moyo, and on the tiny island of Pulau Satonda, explore its crater lake and snorkel among huge coral bommies. At sunset, witness the mass exodus of giant fruit bats as they migrate to forage for food—thousands of them nearly blacken the sky in this nightly spectacle! Depart on Day 11 via Denpasar.
Our Komodo National Park Live-Aboard Yacht
Our 98-foot phinisi (traditional Indonesian two-masted sailing ship) is our very comfortable 14-guest vessel for exploring the best snorkeling sites around Komodo National Park. She has three cabin types (3 Twin Staterooms, 2 Deluxe Staterooms, and 2 Owners' Suites), all air-conditioned, with en suite facilities, wardrobe, bathrobes, hairdryer, and towels. There is an air-conditioned salon, a large shaded outdoor dining area, and an upper sundeck with sun loungers and spectacular views. The vessel offers a high standard of service provided by a one-to-one ratio of staff to guests, and there are two tenders to take us to our snorkeling sites and ashore for exploration.
