Short Description

This classic tour has been designed to give you a balanced, varied and full experience of the state of Rajasthan and of India. From Delhi we will visit the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra before criss-crossing our way south to Udaipur, taking in some of the most famous highlights this part of India is so well known for on the way. We will also show you the other side of this colourful state - the rural villages, out of the way temples, hidden lakes and spectacular hilltop forts - all the while providing you with comfortable and characterful accommodation in charming, family-run heritage hotels. We’ll embark on exciting dawn and dusk jeep safaris for the chance to spot some of India's most elusive wildlife, including the rare black buck, chinkaras, nilgais, civet cats and tigers.

On this itinerary you will witness all the colour, culture and beauty of Rajasthan as well as getting away from the madding crowds.

Small groups are usually defined as between 10 and 24 travelers, often less. If you're the kind of person who enjoys more intimate experiences and personal service this is a good choice. All else being equal you will pay a premium for this style vs a larger group tour.

Love Wild Frontiers because of choice of trips and guides. Remember particularly Dhala Campbell in Palestine as typifying the brand, slightly whacky (sorry, Dhala) but tremendously efficient and fun. Really interesting people are attracted to the unusual trips which adds to the enjoyment.

Accomodations

Trident, Agra

A reliable contemporary option in Agra, this four star hotel is built from red stone reminiscent of the Mughal era, it has a stylish lobby with a great intimate bar and restaurant, a large outdoor pool in the courtyard and hammocks dotted around the garden to laze upon when not sightseeing. It is well placed for visits to the Taj Mahal and the rooms are spacious and comfortable with very good service.

The Claridges, Delhi

The Claridges has been a veritable treasure in Lutyens Delhi since 1950's. Amidst the rush of new modernity, the soul of The Claridges lives on. Refurbished, redesigned and revitalized, the hotel now offers the guests an experience that is new and yet so familiar. The hotel is also in an excellent location just a short Auto ride from Khan Market and not much further to Connaught Place. The Claridges has appointed new management personnel to blend tradition with modernity, which gives it a completely refreshing look. Leading designers of international repute have helped enhance the heritage and elegance of this four star hotel.

Khandela Haveli, Jaipur

Khandela Haveli is a comfortable heritage property with a roof restaurant. The ambience of the property specializes in time-honoured architecture and style. Each of the 22 rooms and suites are clean cut with simple decor, nothing fancy but very tasteful. This is an authentic Shekhawati Haveli in Jaipur. There is a nice roof top restaurant serving good local food as well as a small plunge pool. This is a great mid range option in a good location (Bani Park) with plenty of charm.

Pushkar Palace, Pushkar

Hotel Pushkar Palace has 48 well-appointed Rooms and 5 Suites, built by Maharaja of Jaisalmer about 400 years ago and later on presented to Maharaja of Kishangarh. Situated on the bank of the lake and centre of town, it is the perfect location from which to wander around the ghats, or enjoy the view of the lake, sand dunes and hundreds of temples.

Ravla Bhenswara, Bhenswara

A colourful treasure in the heart of Rajasthan -this historic hotel could only exist here in India's desert state, somewhat garish, bright colours inform the well-designed interiors, all crafted locally, and individually style by Uma, wife of your co-host Shiv -a delightful, welcoming couple who do their best to make sure your stay is an enjoyable one. The haphazard charm and friendly village vibe are a welcome retreat from the bigger cities and the leopard safaris are excellent as are the guided village walks. The food is tasty and the outdoor pool has loungers to relax by after your outings. A real find.

Rawla Jojawar, Jojawar

The former royal house of Marwar, now the Jojawar Fort is a lovely heritage hotel in the small picturesque, colourful village of Jojawar. Opened as a historic hotel in 2001 and run by the brothers Nagendra and Amit Vikram, this is a great hotel with an inviting outdoor pool and lovely courtyard to relax. The food served in the two restaurants is delicious and there are many excursions to make your time here as eventful or as relaxed as you would like. You can choose from horse safaris and trekking, jeep safaris and a local train ride.

Castle Bijaipur, Bijaipur

An enchanting castle standing high on a plateau of the great Vindhyachal ranges, Castle Bijaipur is one of our favourite heritage hotels. This is not, it should be made clear, because of the service - which is definitely more Fawlty Towers than Aman Resort - but because of the laid-back, unpretentious and aesthetically Indian experience it offers. More elaborate homestay, than commercial hotel, the castle gives breath-taking views of the valley and village encircling it, through which you can horse ride, cycle or take wonderful walks. The rooms of the castle, and its more contemporary Victorian wing, are all individually styled in addition to which there is a lovely courtyard to relax, a large swimming pool, plus a wonderful rooftop terrace to do some yoga, have a romantic dinner or just watch village life go by. For those looking for the heart and soul of India, this quirky palace will form one of the highlights of your adventure.

Ranthambore Regency Hotel, Ranthambore

Located on the Ranthambore Road, this is a fine four star option and well placed for your tiger excursions. The hotel has 63 comfortable rooms with some lovely Rajput furnishings. The staff are welcoming and there are plenty of shaded area to cool down in the hot desert days by the swimming pool or at the poolside bar. A wellness-spa and restaurant complete the facilities making this a great place to relax in between safaris.

Karohi Haveli Hotel, Udaipur

The Karohi Haveli was built in 1820 as residence of the Karohi noble family and recently converted into a lovely, heritage hotel to offer royal hospitality and the experience of the Haveli lifestyle. It is run by the Karohi family and benefits both from an excellent location on Lake Pichola and friendly service. It has traditional Rajasthani architecture and a fabulous rooftop restaurant and bar, as well as an outdoor pool. There are 26 distinct rooms well decorated in the traditional style with bright colours.
