Itinerary

Day 1: ROME, ITALY

When in Rome … you cannot miss the opportunity to visit St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican, not to mention the Colosseum, the Forum, the Pantheon and so much more. Windstar’s landmark hotels are perfectly located for your excursions. Grand Hotel de la Minerve welcomes you to luxury in the very center of Rome, immediately across the street from the Pantheon itself. The Ambasciatori Palace Hotel, on one of Rome’s most famous and stylish streets, Via Veneto, features beautiful historic detail…

Day 2: CAPRI, ITALY

There is so much to see on this captivating island — from the ruins of Roman villas to gorgeous private residences surrounded by flower-filled gardens. Wander along little lanes scented with the aromas of bougainvillea, plumbago, grapevines, and mandevilla. Don’t miss an opportunity to explore the famous Blue Grotto, with its intense azure interior and ethereal silvery light.

Want insider advice on where to find the tastiest restaurants, most unique local markets, authentic culinary shops, and hidden watering holes? Check out Capri’s Local Dining Tip Curated by Saveur on our blog.

Day 3: MESSINA (TAORMINA), ITALY

The cobblestone streets of Messina, Sicily, are the perfect launching point for an optional visit to nearby Taormina. Stroll along flower-filled streets in search of a delightful lunch or an artist’s palette of colorful gelati. The ancient Greek Theater is an ideal place to sit back and admire shimmering waters below and Mount Etna, languidly smoking in the distance.

Day 4: KOTOR, MONTENEGRO

This is one of Montenegro’s most beautiful bays, and the approach offers one breathtaking fjord-like view after another. Just when you’ve reached your fill of blues and greens, the bright red rooftops of the medieval town come into view. Now the real fun begins. The charming streets of Old Town remain car free, filled with 12th century Baroque palaces and Romanesque churches. For a fresh perspective climb to the fortress on the hill for a breathtaking vista.

Day 5: DUBROVNIK, CROATIA

While larger ships pass by, we anchor right beyond the famous walled city so you can admire its beauty with every glance. Tender ashore and step right into Old Town where no cars are allowed, just eons of history. Capture the exhilarating views on your camera — and in your memory. End your day at the Buza Café (if you can find it) watching bold divers leap off the cliffs into the crystalline sea.

Day 6: SPLIT, CROATIA

Split welcomes you with open arms, Mediterranean style, and a bustling harbor lined with busy cafés. Beyond, looms stately Diocletian’s Palace in the center of town. Within the palace walls, a majestic cathedral soars, surrounded by polished marble streets lined with every type of tempting shop. If you’re longing for a quiet respite, head for the western end of town for an easy stroll

Day 7: ROVINJ, CROATIA

Rovinj used to be a tiny island until the channel was filled in during the 18th century, so while the red terracotta roofs now spill inland, the Old Town is tidily self-contained. Hints of Italy are everywhere — in the signs, in the language, in the cuisine — thanks to having spent more than 500 years under Venetian rule. Romantic, quaint, and captivating, it’s Istria’s most beloved town.

Day 8: VENICE, ITALY

No other sea approach in the Adriatic raises goose bumps like Venice. On your luxurious home-away-from home, you arrive already equipped with a sense of what it’s like to live in the city that’s neither land nor water. Add your own sigh to the Bridge of Sighs, sip a spritz al bitter as you plot your agenda, and let the water taxis do your navigating unless you don’t mind getting lost. Not such a bad prospect, with serendipitous discoveries around every corner.

My wife and I and two other couples recently returned from a week-long sail on the Aegean Sea aboard the Wind Star to Greece. Service on board is impeccable; the ship is spotlessly clean, the staff is ever attentive and the captain, Belinda Bennett is out and about all day checking on the dining room(s) the service on the veranda and is often found sitting with passengers and sharing her experience as one of the first female ship captains. This cruise was a delight from beginning to end aboard a four-masted sailboat. Highly recommended.

I disembarked from the Star Breeze ship this morning. The cruise was from Lisbon to Barcelona. This cruise and excursions were fabulous! The ship had awesome rooms with walk in closet, an actual bath tub, and a sitting area! The food was excellent! The entire staff was very attentive and so much fun! I will definitely be cruising with Windstar again! A few shout outs to crew members... Anna at the excursions desk, Shirley on the wait staff, José in Sporting, Hendry in the dining room. Cath in the gift shop. I am grateful to have met you all and hope to see you when I am cruising again!

Just finished my first Windstar cruise and already planning my next one. The crew was wonderful, the food amazing, and the trip incredible. I can’t wait to go on another. I have never had any interest in going to a floating all inclusive resort. I thoroughly enjoy being on the water, not in a hotel, even if it is a five star. I will gladly take a Windstar over a bigger cruise any day!

Ridiculously awesome experience! We sailed on the Windstar’s Barbados Cruise a few years ago. By the next morning after boarding, nearly all staff members knew us by name. The food, drinks and entertainment were amazing while aboard the Windstar. We enjoyed hopping from Island to island nearly every day. I would HIGHLY recommend taking a Windstar Cruise. You won’t be disappointed.

I just returned from the 7-day Tahiti cruise on the Wind Spirit and it was an experience of a lifetime. Not only are the tropical surroundings breathtaking (yes, they live up to the photos), the ship was an absolute delight. I received five-star service throughout -- from my sweet and thoughtful cabin attendant, to the amazing meals served under the stars and the onboard entertainment, which included a hilarious talent show put on by the crew. Even the raising of the sails was made festive with the majestic music.

Nearly every day we were treated to something special, including a barbecue on a private islet (motu), where the crew had set up a full bar and we could kayak and snorkel all afternoon. They also hosted a huge onboard feast followed by dancing, and another barbecue on another motu that featured fire dancing.

I traveled alone yet felt as if I were with friends the whole time. And because there were only about 150 passengers, I did leave with new friends. This was a bucket list trip, so expectations are naturally high. Not only did Windstar meet them, it far surpassed them. I'm already saving for my next cruise.
