Horrible horrible horrible

The tours left you in horrible hotels. 2 stars at best. Dirty bathrooms and carpets. In the middle of nowhere! At one hotel we were at an industrial suburb next to what looked like a truck Depo. 30 mins from Florence! The ubers didn't get there. Nowhere to eat. Tour guides recommended shitty restaurants with 2/5 stars on Google. At one place they recommended japenese food... In Italy!!! Because there was little else. The food on tour was sub par... At one place served out of giant metal vats/tubs! When there were so many amazing restaurants nearby in Capri!! Avoid at all cost!!!!!! This was the worst experience. Did not feel like a holiday.

We have just returned from an amazing 10 days Holiday at Europe!

Big Thanks to Antonio Toti, We have just returned from an amazing 10 days Holiday at Europe! This was a special holiday for us. From the minute we arrived, we were looked after by the most amazing Person Antonio Toti our Tour guide, He was a wonderful tour guide with great character and sense of humour. He knew each fact about Europe that made our tour more interesting. Antonio suggested great places to eat and asked us our preferences and could also explain the food we had never tried or even heard of before. Big thanks to Antonio

A memorable holiday

Have just spent a fabulous week on board the St. Hilda vessel sailing around the small Hebridean Islands. This is a stunningly beautiful & spectacular part of the world that needs to be experienced in person to be fully appreciated. Many thanks must go to Christophe for his sailing expertise and extensive knowledge of the Islands & surrounding waters & lochs. Thanks to Kerry for her delicious meals which appeared like magic from below deck and for looking after our every need during our cruise. Loved the birthday cake and Champagne!! Although the weather and the seas were not always kind to us it did not dampen our spirits and only added to the “Scottish” experience. This was truly a memorable holiday made more so by the warm hospitality of all staff in this family run business from Christophe and Kerry to Collette and Julie.

Fabulous trip and company enough!

Just got back from our Mull Odyssey cruise. An amazing, truly special holiday. So many highlights to pick from but the amazing columnar basalt rock formations on Staffa; Lochbuie Standing Stone Circle; dolphins bow riding; huge jellyfish; 'helping' crew the ship; Tobermory; sunsets & rainbows; Iona and the fabulous scenery are a good start. Special thanks to Christophe and Amy for going above and beyond being the crew. I cannot recommend this fabulous trip and company enough!

I had a memorable and enjoyable time

I had a memorable and enjoyable time on Seahorse II. This included seeing a minke whale breaching many times, a huge pod of dolphins, including a baby one, diving and jumping out the water and porpoises. The crew were very helpful, kind and skillful, we had delicious food and good laughs. The islands we visited were wild and wonderful. Recommended.

Fantastic trip!!

Fantastic trip!! Such an amazing way to see Ireland! The small group made it so much more personal and relaxing. The tour guides work so hard to customize the trip to what you want. While on the road, we decided that we would want to do something or see something, and we got to do it- you won’t get that on a giant tour bus trip! I am actually a college student studying abroad in Madrid, and decided I wanted to see Ireland. I booked this trip alone, but the whole Overland Ireland experience is so welcoming and warm! I had an amazing time and would really recommend it!

It was just great, highly recommended!

Ireland is awesome! Overland Ireland even more awesome! I was on the South-West tour and if you are planning to visit Ireland, this tour company is all you need. The best part is that everything was included, there were no unexpected fees. Transportation, accommodation and included food were excellent, the guide (Pat) was great, funny and knowledgeable and really considerate to the group's needs. The small group was also a cool experience, we all got along from day one. I can't really think of highlights, every minute was just jaw-dropping scenery. The tour included boat rides to islands off the coast, hiking, cycling, tasting Irish food, GUINESS! and listening to 'trad' Irish music, more than I expected! It was just great, highly recommended!

Overall excellent trip and would recommend to everyone

The locations we visited were absolutely stunning and because it’s a small group venture we could go places that the big buses couldn’t get to. We got the full Irish experience and gave the trip an exclusive feel. Really enjoyed the activities as well. The van was incredible comfortable and everyone had plenty of space, the fact that we had internet on board was really cool. Was great during the longer drive to add some pictures etc of our trip and to keep in touch with friends. Overall excellent trip and would recommend to everyone.

Think Ireland is only for gardens and quaint guest houses? Think again. These tours are adventure minded and take to the road, exploring off the beaten track. What Makes Them Stand Out? They keep tours small, and really focus on making sure everyone has the best Ireland experience. Instead of just visiting tourist attractions, they also imbue your travel experience with many local stops. Additionally they are adventure minded, so rather than visiting another church you might take a sea kayaking excursion. Prepare to see Ireland in an entirely different light! Who Travels With Them? Overland tours tend to attract younger travelers, in the 18 - 35 range, and very hip older travelers. These kinds of tours aren’t for everyone, as they can be exhausting and involve long drives (though Overland Ireland makes a point to say they try and keep driving distances short). Where Do They Operate? You can plan your own route, but their pre-set tours travel throughout Western and Southern Ireland, either broken up or in one fell swoop. Why Travel With Them? This is a vibrant, youthful tour company. Tours are very active and busy - with the goal of introducing you to a young adventurous side of Ireland. Expect small groups, minimal driving time, and staying in locally run establishments. They are very welcoming to solo travelers and this is a great way to make lasting friendships!

It was a great experience

We just completed a 6 day self guided walk in the Pyrenees on the Cathar Castle trail. It was a great experience. Good accomodation, food and scenery. Everything was really well organised bar a couple of very minor hiccups involving taxis but nothing major. We would highly recommend this trip

Cannot wait for my next UTracks adventure.

Have just had an incredible week cycling along the Danube River through Germany, Austria and Bratislava on a UTracks Bike & Barge trip with my partner. We did a self-guided trip with electric bikes so we could set our own pace each day, stopping for long lunches in the sunshine, wine tastings, coffee in gorgeous ancient villages and side trips to castles, imperial palaces and monasteries, before returning to our boat each afternoon in time for drinks on the sundeck. I loved waking up on our boat in a new destination each day ready to explore the European countryside. Cannot wait for my next UTracks adventure.

Had an amazing time on the Full Spanish Camino! Utracks organised all the luggage transfers and accommodation. Did a combination of self-guided hiking and cycling, which was the best way to go. Bike hire came with panniers, and the self-guided maps and guides provided were easy to follow. Would do it again in a heartbeat!

This was the trip of a lifetime. I had high expectations for what this 8 day adventure would be, and every single moment of the trip exceeded what I had hoped for.

The days in La Paz were fun and seeing the whale sharks was incredible. The 6 days of kayaking and camping around Isla San Jose was out of this world. Beautiful camp spots where I could have spent the rest of my life gazing at the stars. The sunrise every morning and sunset every night was picture perfect. The campsites they chose were out of a movie, true paradise. I loved how remote the area was. We didn't see any other people other than a few local fisherman the entire week we were kayaking our way around the island. The waters were so clear and we saw marine wildlife everywhere we looked- turtles, stingrays, mantarays, dolphins, sea lions, whale sharks and so many beautiful fish I could never list them all here. The guides were happy to take us on whatever activity we wanted, and spent time beyond just the daily kayaking with us to ensure we had the adventure of a lifetime. They also gave me great pointers while we were on the water every day, so my paddling technique improved each day, and made the miles of paddling much more enjoyable with the ease of the techniques they shared with us. The food that was prepared for us each day was some of the best of my life. Traditional family recipes from the guides that ensured I got a real taste of Baja flavor. Hiking, snorkeling, and even accompanying our guides on spear fishing adventures were some of the amazing activities we did every day. Ruben, one of our guides would spear fish for our dinner and then the three of them would make us fresh sashimi on the beach with the snapper and parrot fish he caught! WOW! Thank you to Guillermo, Ruben, and Guerro for the most incredible trip I have taken in a long, long time. You guys are amazing and made this week one that I will remember for the rest of my life. I can't wait to take another trip with ROW, and more than that, I can't wait to come back to Baja and take another adventure with all of you!

6 day Row Sea Kayak Adventures

Beyond my expectations with an abundance of wildlife, professional, knowledgeable and friendly guides, amazing food, spectacular scenery and clean stand-up tents that can accommodate 2 people. We saw a super pod of Orca, many humpbacks of which we watched from our beachfront camp site breaching and having a good ol time frolicking in the waters, steller sea lions, a school of dolphins, and bald eagles flying overhead. The morning starts with breakfast, paddling for a couple hours, a lunch stop, then padding to the next campsite, dinner, stunning sunsets and land games. You can hike if you want. We had a wonderful group of people on this excursion. I highly recommend this trip!! Ty Daniella, Colin and Lucious (our tour guides) and Row Sea Kayak Adventures for an experience I’ll never forget.

Amazing Johnstone Straight Experience - Kayaking, Fun, Wildlife, great food, beautiful location

We recently took the Orca Base Camp trip with Sea Kayak Adventures. It was amazing. Yes its camping. We were well taken care of and got to paddle in this pristine area for 4 days. The beautiful scenery and wildlife did not disappoint. Passing Humpbacks, Sea lions, a playful otter, eagles, Orcas, etc. The guides took very good care of every detail of the trip. We would just relax and enjoy the experience. This was our 6th Row Sea Kayak Adventure and we loved it. The guides were well versed in the local history and natural biology of the area. We had fun learning about the area. I had read the book ORCA prior to the trip which made it more fun to see the places and animals featured in the book. Overall, awesome.

Kayaking, Walking & Whisky
Kayaking, Walking & Whisky Trip Type: Group Tour
Established in 1993, ROW Sea Kayak Adventures was born out of a desire to share the incredible wildlife experiences to be had from a sea kayaking outing. With a wide variety of trips to choose from, all of which are led by highly qualified guides, ROW Sea Kayak Adventures provides incredible experiences with every outing. What Makes ROW Sea Kayak Adventures Stand Out? While their parent company, ROW Adventures caters to a wide range of travelers, destinations, and styles, ROW Sea Kayak Adventures keeps it niche. They specifically focus on ocean based adventures - sea kayaking and whale watching are some of the main activities.   For the many diverse destinations ROW travels to, sharing history, culture, and natural history information is an integral part of the experience. Known for excellent cuisine (yes even while camping!), all ROW guides are well taught cooks; local ingredients and traditional meals are highlighted whenever possible. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with ROW Sea Kayak Adventures? These trips are best suited to travelers who enjoy being outside, and are looking for a tour that combines the adventure of sea kayaking with cultural outings and other traditional travel activities. You will be on the water among the salty and windy sea air for a majority of the trip, so a sense of adventure is key! Sea Kayaking is an exhausting but exhilarating activity - suitable to many ages and physical levels. But beware - if you are not a regular gym goer, the muscles activated when you kayak are going to burn the following day! That said, ROW is well known for impressively well rounded itineraries - you’ll have some time to rest as you explore areas of cultural and historical interest, and on some trips you’ll be treated to premium accommodations. They are popular among families, couples, and those in the 50+ range.  Top Destinations Tours are available all over the world in Tours in Baja, British Columbia, Cuba, Quebec, Alaska, the Galapagos Islands, Corsica, and Scotland. ROW Sea Kayak Adventures Travel Style Tours with ROW Sea Kayak Adventures are led by an experienced guides in top of the line kayaks, which are frequently updated to maintain the highest safety standards. While sea kayaking has a small learning curve, these trips do not require prior experience. That said if you are somewhat physically fit and able, you will find the trip more enjoyable. Expect some sore arms, but if you go in prepared for an adventure you’ll have an amazing time. Family friendly trips are available for extra little adventurers! Accommodations are largely camping based, however trips that stay in lodges, as well as cruises are also available. Why Choose a Tour with ROW Sea Kayak Adventures? Sea Kayaking toes the line between “hard adventure” and “soft adventure” in the travel realm. Depending on the weather, for example, a destination that might traditionally offer easygoing kayaking can suddenly become super challenging. That’s why traveling with the experienced guides at ROW is a huge plus for your sea kayaking journey. The wildlife viewing opportunities and up close encounters on ROW Sea Kayaking trips is definitely one of the highlights. It’s also a great way to meet other like minded adventurous travelers. ROW Sea Kayaking trips are small, expertly guided excursions designed to inspire and provide a great experience at great value.

Fantastic Trip in Southern Africa

We did this trip, Explore Southern Africa, from Aug 9 - 26 this year and we thought it was probably our most memorable trip ever. The variety of wildlife (we saw the big 5 plus giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, hippos, hyenas, wildebeests, impalas, baboons, ...) and our proximity to them that we experienced was unparalleled. The scenery was like nothing we had ever experienced before (our first time anywhere in Africa). Although it was winter time there when we went and many areas were looking very dry it was an experience not to be missed. Additionally we were made to feel welcome everywhere that we went. The highlights of the trip for us would be the two days to the Okavango Delta, the optional game drive through Chobe National Park and day 13 with our guide tracking rhinos in Matabos and going to the African village. Our tour leader, cook and drivers were excellent as were our co-travellers. The meals that were prepared for us tasted great, were well balanced and no one ever left hungry. The 2 person tent accommodations weren't the most luxurious but they allowed one to stay right in the "middle of the action" with the animals in close proximity to our overnight homes. This being the case, we never felt unsafe in our tents at any point. The overlander vehicle didn't have air conditioning, as is standard, however if you made sure to open windows for air circulation during the drive the heat wasn't so bad. If one is prepared to put up with these few inconveniences and willing to help out with camp set up, vehicle clean up, and meal clean up afterwards (this is a participatory type of trip where certain tasks are required of the travellers) it is an experience not to be missed. It all makes one more appreciative of the luxuries that we have at home that many do not have in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe.

Intrepid Travel is all about ‘real life experiences.’ Founded back in 1989 following an “intrepid” African adventure trip, Intrepid lives up to its name by offering up some pretty big adventures -- such as an 11-day hike through Papua New Guinea -- but is broad-based enough to also lead group trips to Hawaii, complete with sipping sunset Mai Tais on Waikiki Beach. Intrepid Travel - Quick Facts Founded in 1989 No Single Supplement (rare exceptions) Small Groups - max 16 on most trips Typical Age Range - 18 - 45 Travel Style - Cultural immersion, adventure, overland Accommodation Style - Camping, Hostels, 3 /4 star hotels Average Tour Price - $2,377 Top Regions - Asia, Africa, Europe, South America Other Brands: Peregrine, Geckos Commonly compared with G Adventures » What Makes Intrepid Travel Stand Out? Small group sizes Travelers from all walks of life Well-balanced itineraries (group and free time allotted) Guides are travel experts or friendly locals Above all else, Intrepid strives to get its travelers off the beaten path and under the surface of the local culture. To accomplish this, group sizes average just 10 travelers each, with a maximum of 16 on most trips. This allows for more use of local transportation and lodging, along with fostering cultural immersion. Intrepid also employs local English-speaking leaders who act more as a resource for local exploration than do typical ‘guides,’ shepherding groups from one place to another. Who Will Enjoy Traveling With Intrepid Travel? All ages (seniors included) Adventure seekers and culture enthusiasts Intrepid is one of the early pioneers of the “adventure”-style guided trip. Despite its informal beginnings and emphasis on younger, highly adventurous travelers, Intrepid has expanded to a global company with a broad range of trips to fit all ages. Intrepid divides its small-group trips into three separate styles of travel, all priced accordingly. “Basix,” for budget travelers, keep inclusions to a minimum and offer plenty of free time, “Original” journeys which offer more included activities and more hotels, while “Comfort” trips offer the highest level of included activities and standards of accommodation, as well as roomier vehicles. The kind of traveler who gravitates to Intrepid Travel is one who has a real sense of adventure - whether this means hard adventure, or simply going deeper off the beaten path. Interacting with locals is an important factor when you travel, as is gaining a unique cultural perspective. A sense of fun is also essential, whether it means going out at night with your tour mates or daring, ahem, encouraging each other to try strange new foods. Top Destinations Asia South America Africa Europe Originally focused on small group adventure tours to Asia, Intrepid has expanded rapidly over the years, while maintaining its classic, adventurous, and immersive style. Today Intrepid Travel offers more than 1,000 different experiences in over 100 countries, on all seven continents. Regions with the most trips include Asia, South America, Africa, and Europe. Intrepid Travel Style Intrepid enjoys using local, unique forms of transportation. You might find yourself traveling by felucca in Egypt, on a camel in Morocco, or in a tuk-tuk on the best Thailand tour of your life. Accommodations, which could range from guesthouses to home stays, are also locally owned, allowing a more authentic taste of the region while contributing to the local economy. There are a few broad travel styles to choose from when deciding on an Intrepid tour: 1. Basix - Budget travelers who don’t mind, and in fact prefer, simple accommodations - camping and homestays with basic amenities, and crave a lot of free time for exploring independently will love these tours. Public transportation is used exclusively so pack light! These trips often attract a younger crowd who love the idea of throwing a backpack on, keep plenty of room for the unexpected in their schedule, and allocate their travel funds towards spontaneous bus tickets and street food instead of museum tours and 5 star restaurants. 2. Original - These trips take the backpacker spirit of local immersion, incorporating all the benefits that come with going with a planned itinerary. This style is called “Original” because it’s the type of travel that put Intrepid on the map...pun intended. Accommodations are still simple and budget minded - often homestays are used to give you a true sense of place, personality, and culture. Mostly public transportation is used. 3. Comfort - Intrepid is known for the active adventure style of travel and these trips keep that mentality, with a few more creature comforts thrown into the mix. You can expect higher end, more discerning, accommodations that include a wider variety of included amenities, transportation is mostly private, though you can still expect to use some public transport, as is the Intrepid way. More meals are included in the trip price, and more group activities - which means a bit less free time to explore on your own. Why Choose a Tour With Intrepid Travel? Intrepid is a good choice if you don’t mind foregoing some creature comforts for a truly authentic, local experience. If you enjoy meeting locals when traveling, sampling new and exciting foods, and traveling in mixed-aged groups of 10-16 people, Intrepid could be a good fit for you. It’s important to note, sometimes “ample free time” can be a blessing and a curse. It sounds great on paper, but if you’re looking to maximize your dollar and your vacation time, be sure you understand the implications of having a lot of free time during your itinerary. For some travelers this is an absolute requirement, but for others it can be tough to branch off and explore independently - you also need to make sure you allocate enough travel money for independent meals. The tour leaders are great resources of information for how to spend your free time, but if you like having a full day scheduled from breakfast to dinner, Intrepid may not be the best company for you. Lastly, if sustainable and responsible travel is important to you, Intrepid has poured millions of dollars into local economies, and has a very strong emphasis on responsible travel. So you can feel good knowing that your money helps support some of the innkeepers, vendors, and communities that you’ll meet along the way.

The variety that was offered on our tour suited us very well. The Salar de Uyuni at sunrise was truly a unique place.

"We arrived back into Australia on Sunday after spending a couple of further weeks exploring some more of South America. I found you through Google searching for tours that included Atacama Desert options. The Good online reviews from numerous other travelers convinced us to work with you. Also the variety that was offered on this tour suited as very well The 4WD trip through Bolivia was amazing. It's like a different planet up there and was a real experience. The Salar de Uyuni at sunrise was fantastic on the 4WD tour. Truly a unique place. We really enjoyed the hotel in Purmurmarca - Hotel El Manantial del Silencio. It had real character and drinking Argentinian red wine by the open fireplace was lovely. All our guides were very good and were friendly and welcoming. Eddie, our 4WD driver did not speak English which made it a bit hard to converse with, but we were lucky enough to be travelling with an Austrian family who were able to relay information to us. The guides for the Tatio geysers and the Humahuaca day tour were very good at relaying everything in Spanish and English. Sorry - but I can't recall their names. Just one suggestion: It would be worth noting to people that not all services run every day and this needs to be confirmed for the requested dates. This didn't put us out too much as we got to spend an extra day in the North of Argentina, but we may have shifted our internal flights around a bit have we known the bus didn't run on a daily basis. Cheers, Mat"

Absolutely amazing !

Absolutely amazing website! Best way to see tour options for your favorite travel destination. I used this site for a trip to Costa Rica with a some friends. You will not find a site that has more options and information with easy online booking. The employees are quick to respond and very helpful answering any questions and recommending tours based on your preferences. Wish I could give 6 stars

Great service!

Great service! Rob from Project Expedition really helped pick out the perfect trip for me. I ended up going Rafting on the Pacuare River in Costa Rica and it was beyond amazing. The team helped tailor the trip to my needs and went above and beyond to help me with any questions I had and offer assistance with other parts of my trip. I will definitely be using their services again!

This was the first time we had taken a group road tour and I would have to say that it exceeded my expectations. Our guide Danilo was great, it is a difficult job managing people on this type of trip. Everything from the excursion to the dinners where completely organized and well done. We look forward to another trip with Trafalgar in the future. I would without a doubt definitely recommend this trip, it is a little fast pace but Danilo, made sure that we had options if there were needed.

Best of China 2019

The tour guide Hubert was wonderful, very detailed oriented and organized. And had such an extensive knowledge of all the cities and locations we went to. Truly excellent! Personalized care and helpfulness was definitely offered throughout, very nice touch to the trip. Overall a great trip, but some considerations below: The hotel in Beijing – Novotel Peace and the hotel in Chengdu – Crowne Plaza were way below standard – maybe a rating of 2 stars. They were dirty, dark, stained and hot without air circulating in the rooms. After extensive days with waking up early and returning late, you just want to rest in a clean environment with cool air. I would never stay hotels like these. This trip is not for people who cannot handle extensive walking and climbing. Trafalgar lists this as from 5 to 99 years old. Not possible. There were days we did 10 miles of walking, just a caution for anyone considering. We had someone in our tour that was 82 years old and we all took turns taking care of him. Some aspects of the itinerary could be different, but think that is all based on personal preference; however my fellow travelers did feel the same way. The cruise down the Yangtze River was just ‘ok’, time could have been spent better elsewhere. Like Xian, truly amazing city but too short a time. NOTE: Some were charged single supplement, others were not ... I paid for the single supplement and was none too happy about that! Also note that you need to budget for the optional tours that are not included.

Trafalgar is a name many seasoned travelers will recognize. A branch of the Travel Corporation, whose brands all enjoy stellar reputations, Trafalgar has been offering classic and affordable journeys for over 70 years. What Makes Trafalgar Stand Out? Budget friendly without cutting activities Comfortable, not physically demanding tours Largely focused on cultural immersion  Strong reputation    Trafalgar is a budget friendly group tour operator with premium tastes. Their motto is “See the world from the inside,” - this is the place to come for culturally rich and immersive travel experiences that don’t break the bank or the back. Tours are comfortable, not too physically demanding, and offer the opportunity to meet, talk, eat and drink with locals. You’ll get to know chefs, artisans, craftsmen, historians, and farmers as you explore what makes each destination truly special. Trafalgar has a strong reputation, having been around since 1947 - putting them right at the pinnacle of when many premier guided tour companies were established. You’ll meet groups of like minded travelers, enjoy cultural experiences, expertly crafted itineraries with local touches and experiences guides, while traveling in comfort and ease. Who Will Enjoy Traveling With Trafalgar? Older travelers (but all ages are welcome) Low to mid range budget travelers Those who enjoy slow-paced itineraries and little physical activity Those who favor historic sightseeing & cultural immersion over active adventure    If you are an active traveler, perhaps recently retired, eager to explore the world in comfort, visiting a nice combination of unique local spots and classic sites, then Trafalgar could be a great choice. Possibly you are new to group tours and packages, having been used to creating your own travel experiences at a younger age - Trafalgar provides the perfect introduction to group tours. Or maybe you’re traveling with a family and interested in introducing a new generation of travelers to your favorite country - but don’t really have the time or patience to worry about planning out all the logistics. While they offer many trip styles, suitable for travelers of all ages, their classic touch is popular among older travelers. Classic doesn’t mean old fashioned or tired - simply a bit less on the active adventure and more on the historic sights and cultural experiences. They have a number of family focused tours, as well as tailored trips for special interests. Trafalgar trips are budget friendly, with most trips in middle to low range, including a “Cost Saver” feature that allows you to see more inexpensive trips broken down by ratings and cost clearly. They offer several deals throughout the year. Trafalgar is a British brand, so many of the attendees on your tour will be from the UK.   Top Destinations With Trafalgar, you can find trips to Europe, USA & Canada, South America, Asia, Australia & New Zealand. While the destinations are widespread, Trafalgar trips explore the culture and guides take you to hidden local spots without venturing too far outside the comfort zone. Tours in Europe and the UK are among the most popular itineraries. In South America, Trafalgar travels to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. In Africa, they go to Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa. In Asia, it’s Cambodia, China, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. And in the Pacific, Trafalgar visits Australia and New Zealand. Wherever you go, you can expect high quality guides and accommodations, and smooth travels. They also have a number of religious themed tours, including trips that include excursions to Oberammergau, Bavaria. Once a decade this small town presents a Passion Play, and Trafalgar has had special access since 1970. The next time to experience this unique event is 2020. Trafalgar Travel Style The Trafalgar travel style is all about getting to know the culture through activities and connecting with locals. Their main tagline is “Discover the Good Life” meaning getting to experience the real thing, in a safe, escorted environment with knowledgeable guides there to help with the language and provide historical and cultural context. Discovering the Good Life encompasses perks like skipping lines and private access to classic sites; and unique experiences that bring you to places and among people you’d never have the chance to meet traveling on your own. This kind of travel is local immersion, but not in the same way a 25 year old might interpret that idea. Rather than bunking at hostels, going out late at night, and enjoying potentially questionable street food, you’ll stay in premium, centrally located and culturally significant accommodations - everything from bed and breakfasts in Ireland to hotels right on the banks of Norwegian fjords.  Learn cooking techniques in Italy, enjoy private winery tours at French chateaus, and touring a small olive farm in Spain are just a few examples of the kind of unique travel experiences you can expect with Trafalgar. Groups are large, typically between 40-45 travelers, a max of 52 on trips in the USA and Canada. Primary transportation during the tour is in large coaches, equipped with WiFi (with the exception of Alaska) and featuring large viewing windows - ideal for taking in the scenery as you head to your next destinations.   Most meals during Trafalgar tours are included. Trips often include free time during which you can explore on your own, with suggestions from your expert guides. Why Choose a Tour with Trafalgar? Trafalgar has a solid reputation, and they stick to what they’ve done well for over 50 years. They focus on the classics, providing a culturally rich perspective as you meet locals along the way. Their experience has allowed them to cultivate relationships around the world with local businesses - quality control you can trust for every stop along the trip. Niche tours based on specialized interests are also something they are proud to offer. Trafalgar is where you go to have the essentials and logistics take care of seamlessly while you sit back and enjoy. Do note that these tours can be quite large - 40 people traveling together in a tour group can be stifling for some. While they appeal to an older crowd due to their history and recognizable name, Trafalgar has an impressively well integrated social media presence. Trips on their site are accompanied by instagram posts from real travelers who have been on the same tour, using the hashtag #SimplyTrafalgar. Old or young(ish), couple or single, traveling Simply Trafalgar inspires confidence, comfort, and enjoyment.

Terrible, the guide ruined our trip

Our guide tried to skip almost all of the things on our itinerary and we had to fight with him to get him to do half of the things we paid for! He hated his job, didn't do any of the guide portion and really ruined our trip to Sri Lanka. Overall, this company was terrible to deal with and didn't care about what their guide did! We didn't get what we paid for at all. Stay away from them!

Based in Paris, Evaneos is similar to a travel agency, though with a heavily personal and social community touch. What Makes Them Stand Out? Evaneos puts you in touch with local travel agents who are there to help you design a custom trip catered to what you want to see and do. They provide easily accessible sample itineraries to help you design the perfect trip.   They are also an effective tool for local travel agents and DMC’s to find new clients. In essence, Evaneos allows the traveler to get directly in touch with the resources often used by traditional tour companies. If you are on the fence about whether you want a small group guided tour, speaking with an agent from Evaneos can clear this up. Agents have a lot of flexibility - and you can still join a tour through them if you end up deciding this is the right mode of travel. Discussing one on one with a local expert can help make this decision clearer! Who Travels With Them? Evaneos attracts a younger traveler seeking creative control over their travel experience. This is also apparent in how they’ve structured their social community. They will appeal most to travelers who are somewhat budget conscious, care about responsible and sustainable travel, and value having a local guide. Evaneos agents are helpful for providing local expertise and knowledge about how to make your trip ideas fit into a viable itinerary. Where Do They Operate? Currently trips are available all over the world, excepting Antarctica - a majority of tours are centered in Europe and Asia, and very few travel to North America. Why Travel With Them? You may be thinking that a guided tour isn’t right, but also may be unsure about creating your own travel experience from scratch. If you are looking for help crafting an experience that has a local focus, with professional input this is a great way to find agents and travel advisors to help you do just that. Prices vary, but are generally affordable - around the same amount as a group tour but this is a great option if you’re looking for something a bit different than a traditional tour. Unlike a traditional travel agent, flight arrangements are not always included.

Bad trip leader experience

The activities were a mixture of good and repetitive and the description of the game drives seems a little embellished. We didn't encounter hardly any elephants and the leopard sighting is apparently not as common as one might think (2-3 a week according to local guide). While we were "fortunate" to observe one, it was so far away that only a 400mm lens would get to see it, but that's after you fight through about 40 vehicles all converging to a single space in order to catch a glimpse before the park warden hurries you on because your time is up! It's also a madhouse trying to get into the park. There is no orderly fashion while up to a hundred vehicles all vie to be first in the gate (this is at Yala). The biggest downside to the trip was our trip leader. On two occasions when we had questions about the activities, he became very defensive and argumentative, and when trying to walk away from the conversation so that it didn't escalate further, he followed us intent on exclaiming what a good guide he's been and that we were the problem. We walked away again, and yet he still following us turning the conversation into harassment. I was glad when the trip ended to get away from him and if it weren't for having another back-to-back Exodus trip (see Maldives review) immediately following this one, I would have never wanted to travel with Exodus again given that experience. In sum, trip leader very poor (astonishingly so) and trip itinerary could improve by offering more variety/flexibility to wildlife viewings rather than doing the same repeat walks 3 times. All food was at hotels so not much of a variety or local fare encountered. Lovely country and lovely people though and group was great!

The most stunning trip of my life

Its been a long held dream of mine to go to the Antarctic and the trip I booked via Exodus far exceeded my expectations. Amazing scenery, captivating and exciting wildlife, a plethora of facts, figures and general education from the on board experts and I can claim a world first to boot from my holiday to the Antarctic and below the polar circle. The landscapes and wildlife. The scenery is breathtaking, from the continent itself to the many islands and icebergs floating away from the land mass and glaciers. I have never seen anywhere quite so remote and in many ways barren, yet at the same time rich in life and activity. And you will never get over the amazing shapes of the ice along with the vivid blues you see in the glaciers and icebergs. Quite sensational. The penguins are of course the stars, but the frequency of whale sightings and fluking along with seals and many type of birds including the mighty albatross just make the experience even more rewarding. The tour leader is in effect an Expedition Leader fronting a large team of professional from a range of countries. Ours was wonderful. An enormous personality and with the best sense of humour coupled with safety and huge amounts of professional integrity. The people in the expedition team were sensational. They come from a mix of backgrounds, however all have skills in subjects ranging from glaciology to water sports instructor, polar researcher to the armed forces, historian to nature and much more. Not only do you get the chance to attend lectures and learn from them on a really diverse range of topics, but they also accompany the trips off the ship and interact with you during meals and drinks as well as on time when you are cruising. They have both professionally and also personally empowering stories to tell and they really enhanced my trip in a way I did not think possible. If you want to do any of the activities then book them up as soon as you make your reservation. Spaces are limited and I was unable to camp on the ice or take part in kayaking. Don't worry about being cold. Its not actually as cold as you imagine and the ship is fantastically warm and homely. The jacket and boots they supply you with are excellent. Concentrate on buying good quality thermals in layers along wit6h waterproof trousers and gloves and a warm fleece or wool hat. Edit your photos as you go along and always be ready to shoot stuff. The onboard team will help you with this as they have photographers ready to help with your trip. I was in the first group of paddleboarders believed to have ever paddleboarded south of the Antractic Circle. Not only had I never done it before, but we got to claim a world first. Finally don't delay going any longer. It may not be a cheap trip, however it is so amazing and experience that you will not regret the time and expense in going.

A magical trip! One of my best ever!

This trip far exceeded my expectations on every level. The underwater wildlife encounters were superior to any other snorkeling I've done. There's an abundance of things to see and coupled with the chance to scuba dive and excellent water conditions - it's a top notch destination. The boat was very comfortable, the crew was excellent and took care of every need, and the food was awesome. Ranks as one of my all-time favorites!

Explore also uses local leaders and local accommodation whenever possible, so you can be sure to get the local perspective on everything from the history and culture to the best restaurants and bazaars. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Explore? Active travelers seeking a fun, interesting travel experience. They offer 450 trips in over 120 countries with trips trending towards the more active side. Think cycling, trekking, and walking. If you are the kind of traveler whose suitcase is more active wear than formal wear, Explore is your kind of travel company. While it is possible to find Explore trips where culture and urban exploration are more the focus, where just a minimum level of fitness is required, their speciality is definitely in breaking a (small) sweat while traveling. Tours with Explore are open to all ages, and they even have a whole group of Family Friendly tours available. Because you will be active, being relatively physically fit is going to help your enjoyment level exponentially - and some tours are more difficult than others. Be sure to check the Tour Pace and physical requirements. Top Destinations Explore travels to all seven continents (yes, including Antarctica!) and offers trips in over 120 countries. Explore Travel Style Besides Small Group Tours, which is what they are known for, you can also book Private tours, which are great for large families or corporate trips, Tailormade - for those who want something ultra-personalized, and Self Guided trips when you don’t need a guide with you every step of the way. Explore offers three classes of travel: Simple, Classic, and Premium, with the majority of trips categorized as 'Classic.' Expect to pay a bit more for 'Premium' tours as they usually offer more included meals and a higher class of accommodation. As always, accommodations with Explore are chosen for their character and the more they provide a uniquely immersive experience, the better. Another nice feature is Explores 'Tour Pace' designation, which is on a scale from 'Relaxed' to 'Full On,' with most trips falling in between as 'Moderate' or 'Busy.' Explore travel themes are all active focused. They weave cultural travel highlights into their activities, so while you will be on a “cycling tour” or “hiking tour” Explore recognizes that you are also a traveler. Why Choose a tour with Explore? Choose Explore if you are looking for a more active trip without a lot of creature comforts. Explores trips are very well priced, and leave some flexibility in terms of meals. Expect mixed-aged groups with the average traveler in their 30s as well as a mix of nationalities, but trending towards mostly Brits. Additionally, Explore is very active in practicing responsible tourism and supports a number of different local charities in various destination countries.

Extremely knowledgeable

Amazing staff who are very friendly and also extremely knowledgeable. My trip was amazing and I enjoyed every minute of it. I did the Spirit of Europe last year and couldn’t recommend Topdeck enough.
5.0 • Sally

Overall amazing value. Food, particularly by Topdeck staff, excellent. Spontaneous/flexible; be prepared to pay for lots of extra excursions, on and off your itinerary, in cash.

Food was excellent. Accomodations were better than expected: hostels, but usually with in-suite bathrooms and always only with other members of your tour of the same gender. Don't try to overplan; trip is quite spontaneous and flexible and you won't know much about the schedule/optionals for each city more than a day or so in advance. Optionals will be plentiful and paid in cash. Only do those that are right for you, even if your trip leader really encourages them and most other people are going. These trips are great for solo travelers, but make sure you find people interested in the same things as you...it will probably be easy to find groups to go to bars and clubs with in the evenings, but harder to find people who prefer other evening plans. Driver was excellent and bus was very comfortable and clean, but be prepared to spend a lot of time on it as there is no driving at night. Trip leader extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and helpful. Overall, excellent value and a trip with plenty of time to see the bucket list highlights in each city.

Fast-Paced Tour of Western Europe that highlighted most Bucket List Sights. Awesome Company. Great Food and Tour Leader

I jumped on this tour with very little notice and planning, and I was thoroughly impressed. Our Topdeck trip leader was very knowledgeable, fun, and adjusted the trip to the group (34 people). The meals provided were delicious, and they worked hard to cater to dietary needs. Accommodations were good, typically with 2-6 people in a hostel room. Keep in mind they are hostels, not hotels (bring your own towel). I loved the itinerary, as it highlighted the must-see places and had variety (ex. Paris, Rome vs. Switzerland). The optionals in each city were all wonderful. However, many were not presented in the Topdeck literature online and were not introduced on the trip more than a day in advance. All are paid for in cash (Euros). Because of how the optionals were presented, it was a bit harder to budget. I would recommend inquiring more about the optionals when booking and at the beginning of your tour via your trip leader. Don't feel pressured to do all of them and remember to keep your own interests in mind. The solo travelers easily found others with similar interests to explore with. For many on this trip, drinking and going out to bars/clubs was a major component (as alcohol is often cheaper than water). Because of the shortness of this tour along with all the destinations, prepare for lots of driving and to make the most of the time you have in each city. This trip provided am amazing sampling of Western Europe and opened my eyes to cultures and history I was unfamiliar with. Overall, I would highly recommend this itinerary and touring company, as it provided a good balance between budget and experiences. P.S. Stay flexible with plans, but some of the popular sights need more pre-planning than expected, like the Eiffel Tower and the Anne Frank House (Amsterdam).

Founded in 1973, Topdeck has been providing fun, adventurous trips around the world for 18-39 for over 40 years. What Makes Topdeck Travel Stand Out? Topdeck tour focuses on providing friendly and authentic guided group tours where like-minded 18-39 year old travelers can have amazing group experiences. There are several trip types to choose from, from camping, to immersive, to multi destination, to sailing. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Topdeck? Sociable, adventurous, budget conscious 18-39 year olds are the kinds of traveler who will gravitate to Topdeck. Though they offer a few different distinct travel styles, there is definitely a sense of an ongoing party, with travel as the conduit and underlying shared interest. If the idea of being around a group of similarly aged people - many of whom may be exploring internationally for the first or second time - being spontaneous, and meeting locals (often in the environment of bars or clubs) is unappealing, then Topdeck may not be your cup of tea. Introverted travelers, or those for whom an extensively planned itinerary including many museums and historical sites is ideal, may want to hunt around before choosing a Topdeck tour. That is not to dissuade the more observational traveler - who may very well find a group they gel with perfectly on a Topdeck tour. Only to caution that you will be surrounded by several extroverted personalities. The bottom line is if you are game for anything, are traveling on a budget, and don’t mind fairly basic but comfortable accommodations and inexpensive meals - sometimes on the go - then you will enjoy the Topdeck tour experience. Top Destinations Topdeck has tours throughout the world, in Europe, Australia & New Zealand, North America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Topdeck Travel Style The Topdeck travel style is tied quite specifically to their audience. These tours are great for youthful and energetic 18-39 year olds looking for a good time and to make new friends. In the interest of keeping their tours affordable, travelers with Topdeck will need to make a few allowances. For example, hostels and hotels may be situated quite far away from the city centers. You can also expect some long travel days. The more of a good sense of humor and adventure you have, the more you’ll enjoy the experience. Why Choose a Tour With Topdeck Feeling the urge to connect with travelers in your age group, have fun, and make lasting friendships? Topdeck has over 40 years of experience in adventure travel, which has helped them create epic low cost trips for 18-30 somethings. These tours are certainly not for those who prefer to take things slow. You will be running around, moving between a lot of places - which in some cases means very long bus rides - going out a lot, meeting new people, and staying active throughout your tour. If your ideal travel experience is more methodical and planned out in nature, Topdeck may not be for you. But if you are an adventurous and social travelers eager to absorb a new culture and make new friends, then hop on board!

Founded in 1987, Tucan Travel specializes in adventurous, immersive travel experiences. What Makes Tucan Travel Stand Out? They are all about going beyond the resort style of travel for adventure trips that let you experience another side of the country you’re visiting. They offer no pretense either, clearly stating that their style of adventure travel is not for those seeking a chill beach vacation. The four main travel styles you can choose from include Adventure Tours, Overland Tours, Budget Expeditions (specifically geared toward 18-35 year olds), and Add Ons, short side trips. Tour leaders are known as “Adventure Specialists” and will be alongside everyone in your group, encouraging you to to try the fried scorpions. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Tucan Travel? Travelers who gravitate to Tucan will be budget minded and looking for fun, new experiences - and maybe a classic site or two thrown in for good measure. Unlike some of the companies Tucan is commonly compared with, they do not have an age cap, though travelers do tend to be on the younger end. Think young professionals less interested in an ongoing party, but still not quite at the “cultural attractions and museums” stage. Tucan fits comfortably in the middle, offering inexpensive tours with interesting itineraries. For those younger travelers seeking a youthful group, Tucan does have group trips specifically for 18-30 year olds. Most Tucan trips are active, engaging, and exciting, with many local touches. Travelers with Tucan enjoy taking risks and experiencing a destination from the inside out. The price of Tucan tours is designed to be very affordable, however the tours aren’t all inclusive. You’ll be on your own for some meals, and there is a lot of free time available. Also keep in mind Tucan encourages travelers who want, to go off on their own and rejoin the tour later on. Solo travelers are very welcome, and encouraged! Tucan tours are a great way to make new friends, and most tours don’t require a single supplement if you are willing to share with a same-sex roommate. Tucan Travel Style Tucan tours are separated into 3 broad buckets: Worldwide Adventures, Adventures for 20s to 30s, and Tailor Made Travel. Worldwide Adventures with Tucan are tours intended for a wide audience - the age range is from 18-65. Groups are very small, between 4-19 people. Accommodations are in comfortable, locally owned hotels or guest houses. Like all Tucan tours they are budget conscious. Adventures for 20s to 30s are perfect for young adults between 18-39 years old after an adventure. These tours can be super high energy and are typically low cost. Accommodations range from camp sights to 2-3 star budget hotels and hostels. Transportation will include local public transport systems such as public buses and trains or overland vehicles. A note on Overland Travel: Overland tours are a very specific kind of travel, so make sure you know what you’re getting into! These journeys are self sustaining bus rides. Travelers all pitch in at various times to help with cooking, cleaning, and camp setup or breakdown tasks. Prepare for a rustic, outdoorsy venture. It’s a unique way to travel, but certainly not for everybody! Tailor Made Travel is great for those travelers seeking a more customized experience than a pre-set itinerary can provide. Tucan travel experts will design a trip to your specifications and provide a quote. Suggested for families, couples, and small friend groups. Why Choose a Tour with Tucan Travel? Tucan lays on the adventure travel idea pretty think throughout their tour styles. Adventure travel means many things, and Tucan takes a wide view. If you have an adventurous spirit, are one of the first to try the strange street food, volunteer to have the tarantula crawl on you, and love meeting locals these tours will be for you. You’ll meet young, like-minded travelers, and those that are young at heart. Guides are enthusiastic and experienced, ready for anything and ready to make sure your trip fulfills all your expectations. They emphasise the community aspect of group travel and encourage solo travelers to join their groups (and don’t require a single supplement). Independent travelers who are feeling really unsure about a group tour may find exactly what they’re looking for in a Tucan tour. Tucan actively encourages travelers who join their group tours to go off and explore. You can even choose to spend longer on your own and rejoin the Tucan group at the next destination!

The Amazing Turkey by land tour was absolutely amazing

The Amazing Turkey by land tour was absolutely amazing. It was well planned and a great introduction to the major cities of Turkey as well as the different landscapes and seas, history, food, culture and traditional crafts. Our guide, Mustafa was very knowledgeable and added so much value to the experience whether it was an explanation of the evolution of Turkey, recommendations on the optional activities or restaurants or a good bad joke. My highlights included a traditional Turkish bath, Turkish pottery demonstration, exploring the Saklikent gorges, paragliding and the hot air balloons in Cappodocia.

British company, Travel Talk, strives to provide top notch travel experiences at reasonable prices. What Makes Travel Talk Stand Out? Travel Talk was born out of the desire to make extraordinary experiences accessible to ordinary people. They have many niche tours such that finding a tour suited to your interests is easy, and you’re guaranteed to meet like minded friends along the way! All tours are led by local experts who are there to make your experience unforgettable. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Travel Talk? The Travel Talk traveler is someone eager to hit the ground running and explore destinations from all angles. These trips are intended primarily for 18-39 year olds, though the “young at heart” are also welcome. However if you are more in the 40+ range, be forewarned that the tour personality will definitely be youthful in tone. In this case “like minded” traveler is pretty age-range specific. In their own words, travelers on their tours “have a desire to get off the beaten track, experience the culture and tradition all while having a little fun.” Single travelers are more than welcome, and provided you don’t mind sharing a room, no single supplement is required (with the occasional exception on sailing tours). However, unlike their commonly compared counterparts, Contiki and Topdeck, Travel Talk presents itself as less of a constant ongoing party and more of a cultural experiences tour. Not to say there is not the occasional night out on the town - only that the more introverted may enjoy Travel Talk more than Contiki or Topdeck. Top Destinations Their specialized tours focus in Europe, though they also operate in Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco.   Travel Talk Style Travel Talks travel style is all about cultural discovery and having a good time. Accommodations are chosen within a variety of comfort levels, and Travel Talk strives to choose where you stay and how as it’s own experience - not just as an afterthought. Travel Talk tours are budget conscious, but depending on the destination, you may experience anything from a 5 star resort to riding aboard a traditional felucca on the Nile.   Why Choose a Tour with Travel Talk? They are committed to providing a real, adventurous, cultural, and above all local experience. Yet they are careful to not force the comfort zone too far. You will receive outstanding service, accommodation, transportation, and attention from your tour guides. Itineraries cover the must see tourist spots as well as hidden gems. It’s the perfect travel experience that won’t break the bank.

A group of us from Wyoming just did the 5 day Hells Canyon trip with ROW. Great guides (Will, Bethany, Max, Trevor, and Connie) and excellent food. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

Best Vacation Ever!

The Family Magic Trip down the lower Salmon River in August was AMAZING! The guides were awesome! So knowledgeable, funny, and resourceful. The food was better than most restaurants and my kids loved it (as did I)! The River Jester (Lily) was such a sweet yet stern and fun lady that kept the kids entertained and they loved her. They setup camp for us each day at these amazing beaches! I have never been rafting, and they were there to make it seem easy and doable! I loved that they taught us about the local history and environments. A stop at Spalding was awesome start to the trip! I enjoyed the paddle boats, inflatable kayaks, and the oar boats. I even became part of the swim team but it was a good experience having the guides there to ensure our safety. I loved cliff jumping, the short hikes, swimming the rapids, and swimming in the river with the kids. The time with friends and family was great. It was so relaxing and good to meet so many different people I feel that I can call my friends now. Best part was sleeping under the stars with my family hearing the rushing river next to us. The guides made the trip so personal and they were caring! Thanks so much Mark, Max, Connie, Jonas, Curtis, Lily, and Bethany! Absolutely recommend going on a trip with ROW and I plan to with my children again, it was worth every penny! Thanks Jason for helping plan the trip for me!

Barging Ireland
Barging Ireland Trip Type: Small Ship Cruise
Established in 1979, by ROW Adventures began as a whitewater rafting company, which now offers many different kinds of active adventure trips. Their award winning trips have been featured in National Geographic Traveler’s “50 Tours of a Lifetime” and Travel and Leisure has named them one of the “World’s Best Tour Operators.” What Makes ROW Adventures Stand Out? ROW Adventures has grown over it's 30 years as a family owned business to include all sorts of adventure travel offerings. They have a high guest to guide ratio, and specialize in small, customized tours, highlighting history and culture with the help of authentic local connections. Most trips involve some camping, but lodge-based options as well - higher end lodging, motels, and ecolodges are available as well, depending on the location and type of trip. Who Will Enjoy Traveling With ROW Adventures? At first blush, ROW Adventures may seem to only be intended for hard core adventure travelers and adrenaline junkies. In reality, they are less niche focused - striving to create active tours that will appeal to a wide range of travelers. It’s not just about Class 4 rapids! If you are active travel minded, relatively physically fit, and enjoy being outside - you will definitely find a tour to enjoy with ROW Adventures. They cater heavily to families, as well as couples, and even retired-aged adults, provided you don’t require mobility assistance, as these trips usually involve walking, hiking, and being active in general. ROW is particularly well suited to travelers who maybe have hesitated to book active travel tours in the past out of fear that cultural travel experiences will not be included. Rather than focus 100% their time on active travel, ROW itineraries also do an impressive job of incorporating visits to historical attractions and cultural activities. Additionally, it’s not all camping and roughing it - ROW has a very wide range of accommodation styles available from glamping to more traditional hotels. Top Destinations Row offers trips on five continents, including North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Antarctica. Almost all trips take place on or around water, and many involve kayaking, rafting, or other multisport activities. Among some of the most popular activities offered are sea kayaking in Baja, kayaking with Orcas in British Columbia, and they are the world's only tour operator through which guests can beach camp inside of the Galapagos National Park. ROW Adventures Travel Style While some of the main activities you’ll experience on most ROW trips are of course water based given their name, they also offer safaris, biking, and hiking trips. For those who can’t make up their minds, multisport itineraries are also available. Many trips utilize self-powered means of transportation, either sea kayak or raft. Others are cruise or yacht-based, hiking-based, or are supported by gear boats. All trips are accompanied by an extensive support staff. In fact the impressive guide to guest ratio on ROW Adventures trips is a huge plus for travelers. Accommodations on ROW Adventures trips are quite varied depending on the trip theme, time of year, and budget. You can find everything from luxury yachts in Croatia to camping the stars along the Idaho River. Why Choose a Tour with ROW Adventures? Whether you are a thrill seeker or just dipping your toe in the waters of adventure travel, ROW has the trip for you. With their focus on authentic local experiences, highly qualified guides, and intent to make each trip as special and personalized as possible, they are one of the best choices available for your next adventure trip.

Beauiful Croatia

This was our first Bus Tour. While we did enjopy the spots we visited, we felt that there were too many towns and not enough time in each, necessitating more time on the bus. Nevertheless the value of the tour is undeniable. The Tour director Jon, was extremely professional and he was a huge positive on the trip. The topography of Croatia was spectacular, the Sea and mountain views were gorgeous. Lake Bled, the Postojna Caves, Opatija/Plitvice Lakes, Debrovnik, the Roman Ruins, Zagreb were wonderful. The hotels were all clean and rooms were comfortable. Unfortunately my partner Barbara fell and injured her face and broke her glasses on the way to Debrovnik. Jon was extremely concerned offered to find a doctor ()which Barbara declined) but Jon took the broken glasses to an occulist who temporarliy repaired the frames. Two of our fellow travelors who were Nurses took care of Barbara after the accident.

Wonderful experience, well-deigned by SmarTours

The Treasures of Portugal trip focuses on the highlights of the cultural and artistic heritage of this fascinating country. The chosen destinations and sites rarely disappointed, and there was always something awe-inspiring at each stop. The tour provides a great balance between programmed and free time, allowing you to see what you want or find time to explore on your own. The fact that few dinners and no lunches were provided afford you the opportunity to discover the places and tastes that intrigue you as you discover the variety of offerings available in each location. The destinations chosen are smart and live up to the promise that these are the country's treasures. Our guide was brilliant - she knew well the backstory of the locations and the significance of the art and architecture. Each part of the tour was a lesson in history, presented with excitement and passion. Her adoration of the history and culture of her countrymen was palpable and infectious, and gave the touring experience much added value. Well planned, organized, balanced, affordable, and utterly enjoyable. Very highly recommended.

Exceeded my Expectations!

For someone who usually plans every detail of my travels...going on a group tour was not something I relished. Plus, I knew that Smartours was considered a “budget” travel company, so my expectations weren’t that high. However, other than a few minor inconveniences, this trip exceeded my expectations. The magical African landscapes and its kind, welcoming people made this adventure one of the best vacations I’ve been on. Pros: Well-paced itinerary that gave us the opportunity for some free time to plan our own activities, smallish group (25) of lovely, considerate, fellow travelers (we were in the minority of “younger” folks and we are in our 50s), excellent included tours, mostly lovely hotels/lodges, amazing breakfasts/dinners, included porter services at all stops, Smartours CEO personally responded quickly to our inquiry regarding booking cost concern, and our delightful and attentive guide Jonathan. Cons: 6 hour scheduled layover, most uncomfortable 14+ hour flight ever via South African Airways, trip extension Vic Falls guide was very personable, but not very attentive, Smartours sends trip info only 2 weeks prior to departure (would love to have had this info sooner), several of the optional tours were mediocre. But honestly...if you’re a frequent traveler...these concerns are pretty minor. I will definitely be recommending the South Africa Tour to friends for value/quality and hope that ST keeps its word about limiting group sizes to under 25. I will definitely use them again in the future!

The trip was a perfect

We just returned from our first family trip with B&R though Normandy. Our guides, Thilo & Sigrid, were incredible. The trip was a perfect balance of cycling, history, food (and wine, of course). The kids loved hiking across the bay to Mont Saint-Michel and the go-karting was a huge hit (as was pizza night)! Really can't say enough great things about this trip. We enjoyed every minute and are looking forward to planning our next adventure!

Grand adventure

I just completed my 9th biking trip with Butterfield & Robinson! We loved every minute of biking in Tuscany with our guides, Alex, Stephano and Edo. Stunning scenery, challenging biking, a great group of fellow travelers, and, of course, delicious food and wine! Private access to illuminated Medieval manuscripts was a highlight for us because we are college professors and book lovers. Thank you so much for a grand adventure.

Incredible this trip

Just got back from an amazing trip with B&R from Vienna to Prague. This was my first trip with B&R and I was so impressed by every detail!!! Our guide was so thoughtful and made sure every moment was perfect!! We really enjoyed getting to know him and felt completely spoiled by all the great treatment. The accommodations were fabulous, food and wine was delicious and plentiful, and the bike rides were all so much fun with new adventures and beautiful scenery around every turn! Even the walking tours in each place were top notch with very interesting and knowledgeable tour guides that we enjoyed getting to know. I cannot even believe how incredible this trip was, I highly recommend B&R and am already planning my next trip!!!

Ireland Biking
Ireland Biking Trip Type: Small Group Tour
Born in 1966, Butterfield and Robinson specializes in higher end guided and self-guided biking and walking tours to many of the world’s top destinations. What Makes Butterfield & Robinson Stand Out? The seamless combination of luxury minded travel and the active travel style of cycling are what have consistently made Butterfield a household name among affluent 50+ travelers. You can choose your own activity level, whether it’s a ramble through the Burgundy countryside in France or a more strenuous hike along the Inca Trail in Peru. On cycling trips, bikes are customized to fit the riders, and they have a high staff and support vehicle ratio per guest -- making them a top choice for travelers seeking a high-service biking adventure. They offer several tours around the world, small group is their primary offering, though private guided and customizable itineraries are also available. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Butterfield & Robinson? They offer trips for all ages, but are definitely most popular among older active travelers with a taste for the finer things. If a leisurely 25 mile bike ride through European vineyards, stopping for picnics, going at your own pace, and meeting up with your small group for a nice rustic dinner with a well deserved beer or glass of wine at the end of the day sounds like your perfect vacation, then Butterfield & Robinson is for you. Activity levels vary with the terrain and there are several different activity categories that B&R offers for you to choose from. They’re open to people of all ages -- kids under 18 are eligible to go on special family trips -- and athletic abilities. Ebikes make it easier for even the most basic physical fitness level to travel farther and in more comfort. Of course it’s not a complete ride with no effort - you must pedal, but it is possible to travel on a cycling trip with Butterfield & Robinson without feeling like you’ve entered the Tour de France. Trips with Butterfield & Robinson are not budget by any means, though a range of price options are available in the mid to upper budget category. Top Destinations Over the years, they’ve expanded to more than 100 biking and walking trips around the world, including Bhutan, the Baltics, Jordan and Colombia as well as favorites like Spain, France, and Italy. Wherever you are, you can expect to be showered with refreshments, route maps, and suggestions for interesting places to stop and explore. Butterfield & Robinson Travel Style Most tours with Butterfield & Robinson are easy to moderately paced. Cycling is the primary means of transportation from point a to point b on most trips, with a generous helping of stops to enjoy unique cultural experiences or explore a historical site. Guided bike trips average about 25-30 miles a day (longer for expert level), while walkers average six to ten miles a day. Group sizes are kept small, to allow for travel along all kind of roads, and create the opportunity for a lot of space between riders, allowing you to find your own pace. On most trips you’ll be joined by more than one guide, allowing for very personalized and dedicated attention throughout your cycling experience. Small group sizes also help Butterfield be able to arrange unique accommodations. On a B&R trip, it’s not unusual to find yourself in a renovated castle, chateau or other signature lodging. They are known for cycling, however Butterfield also offers Walking Tours, Family Trips, Boat Trips & Cruises, Safaris, Food & Wine centric tours, and Corporate Holidays. Why Choose a Tour With Butterfield & Robinson? Even for avid hikers and cyclists who choose the more expert options, B&R sees to it that all you’ll have to cope with is that next hill. You never have to carry your own luggage or purchases that you might make along the way -- the support van, which you’re likely to encounter several times a day on your route -- takes care of that. You also have plenty of flexibility in pacing your walk or ride; group members don’t have to stay together -- you can stop at cafes or museums along the way as you see fit. You can even take the afternoon off if you wish. In short, Butterfield is the pinnacle when it comes to well planned, fun, expertly guided, cycling tours with a luxury travel touch.

The knowledge of every guide made the trip soo much more enjoyable.

We just returned from a 10 day trip to Italy on Story’s Treasured Cities tour and we had the most amazing trip. We were not part of one of the group tours as they were sold out so we were a bit nervous about getting around not speaking Italian. Story arranged everything soo perfectly for us that it took 100% of the stress out of the trip. Someone was waiting for us at every airport, train station etc to get us to our destination without a hitch. We had private one on one tours daily and the guides were incredible. Andrea in Venice, Susanna Buricchi in Florence and Sonia in Rome went above and beyond. The knowledge of every guide made the trip soo much more enjoyable. You have plenty of free time in each city to explore and the hotels are always right in the heart of the cities, all walkable. If you were even questioning story don’t, It’s worth every penny and we could not be more pleased.

We decided to trust Story to deliver one of our bucket list trips. THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT!

We decided to trust Story to deliver one of our bucket list trips. THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The tour through Venice, Florence, Cortona, and Rome exceeded our expectations. Absolutely everything was FIRST CLASS. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We gave it 5 stars only because there aren’t 6. The published itinerary was delivered in spades with special additions, sometimes twice a day. We never touched luggage, as it was moved for us from location to location. We never had to deal with tickets for transportation or museums. The local, private guides were super. The included dinners and wine were superb. This is a no driving, hassle free tour. We are planning to take another Story Small Group tour. AND, as a special treat, the owner of the company was our tour captain. We tried several things that may be included in future itineraries. In the course of 9 days nothing flustered him. Everything was taken in stride, dealt with and resolved quickly. Nothing interfered with his fantastic service to his guests. We were not customers in any sense of the word. There was never a hint that Story was trying to watch the budget. For those of you reading this and trying to decide, there are some things you need to consider. (When you have questions, call. You'll find that the Story help line is very knowledgeable and helpful.) Small group - There were 15 people on our tour (16 is maximum). The tour caption had the time to get to know all of us. We saw lots of groups that appeared to be 40-50 people! You get to decide which is best for you. The smaller group = higher cost. We thought that it was easily worth it. Walking - There is a lot of walking on this tour. There is always the option to use a taxi to get from place to place (extra cost). Some of the people on the tour with us had apps to count steps. Most showed more than 10,000 at noon time! MANY of those steps are on stairs and rough/cobble stone streets. Many of the stairs are inside attractions - not between them – so they can’t be avoided. By the end of our nine days, some tour group members were opting out of some planned activities. Opinion: If you can't complete a three mile walk, over uneven terrain, at a three mph pace (that's faster than most people walk), comfortably; get in shape. You’ll never do a constant three mile walk, on the tour – but it’ll feel like it. Weather - We had fantastic weather! Temperature in the mid/low 70's and two sprinkles in nine days. Mostly sunshine. A great time to go. Crowds - On the other hand, it wasn't such a great time to go. The crowds of tourists were overwhelming, everywhere except Cortona. I.E.: Our private, skip-the-line guided tour of the Vatican was especially BAD. We waited in line for about an hour and then once inside, we were literally shoulder to shoulder for the remaining two - three hours. It was nearly impossible to enjoy/understand what we were seeing. We spent more time trying to keep in sync with the group than looking at the art. The Sistine Chapel was NOT worth the time it took to get there. This was not something that Story could control. If the Vatican is important to you, go some other time of the year! If you are there during the busy season, opt out. There are thousands of fantastic things to see in Rome that won't be busy. Security - We had a tour guide point out a small group of gypsy/pick-pockets as we exited the Vatican and steered us around them. That was the only "issue" in nine days - not a big deal. But, we were reminded to be "vigilant" many times - especially around crowds. Navigation - Venice, Florence and Rome are VERY difficult to get around. There are many streets/alleys that run in apparently random directions. The maps available through hotels/tourist agents are not in adequate detail. Consider a hand-held GPS navigation system MANDITORY. Our phone did not have cell connectivity, so we down loaded the Google map. It worked once. Be very careful that you have a navigation device that works! Download a local map and test, test, test in airplane mode (?) before you go. Driving – If you are going to Italy and renting a car, during the busy season, Venice allows no cars, problem solved. Driving in Florence and ESPECIALLY Rome is crazy. You've been forewarned. Hotels - As it says, the hotels are in the center of the city/attractions. For example: the hotel in Rome was 200 feet from the Pantheon! This means that some of the buildings are more than 1,500 years old. You'll get used to seeing corners that you'd think should be 90 degrees, but aren't. Be prepared to spend time learning how things work and how to find your room - it'll be different from hotel to hotel and what you are used to! WiFi worked good in each hotel, except Rome. Story Land & Sea is a travel company centered around small group tours both off and on land. It was founded by Mark Story in 1988 and after much success, expanded to a full operation in 2003. It remains family-owned in Centennial, Colorado and prides itself on its family values, which they reflect in their services. What Makes Them Stand Out? Story Land & Sea distinguishes itself by its main focus on small group tours. With no more than 16 people on each tour, Story Land & Sea establishes an individualized and memorable experience. The company also utilizes the multiplicity of activities in each location, providing a wide-range of things to do in each itinerary. This also encompasses their pricing options which vary from luxury to affordable. Who Travels With Them? As mentioned above, Story Land & Sea provides a well-rounded pricing range. Prices start at about $1,200 and can reach to about $5,000 depending on the desired tour. Individuals who choose Story Land & Sea average between 35-55 years of age. Story Land & Sea also provides discounts for groups of 8 members or more. Where Do They Operate? Story Land & Sea operates in Western Europe, Africa, Mexico, Australia and the Pacific. They also have tours to the Galapagos Islands. The company does offer specifically focused tours of Italy as well. Why Travel With Them? Those who want to feel culturally immersed in their surrounding should travel with Story Land & Sea. The fact that each tour group does not extend past the count of 16 means that each individual is able to get a more personalized experience. The “tour captains” have a pristine expertise of the subject matter while also not being intrusive on the experience. Story Land & Sea prides itself on putting the guest first and exceeding their expectations.

We loved everything

We loved everything about Umbria! It was nice to be in a location with other Untourists as it gave us social opportunities in the evening. Umbria has many special discoveries like the Piano Grande with its wildflowers

Wonderful

The food everywhere in Umbria was wonderful. Our favorite towns were Trevi where we had cappuccino in the square every morning and wonderful streets to wander, Spello with its flowers on every doorstep and in every window, Bevagna and Gubbio which had colorful banners hanging everywhere as well as beautiful flowers

When is a tour not a tour? When it’s an Untour, of course. Pennsylvania-based Untours stakes out its own ground in the tour business, offering “all the fun of independent travel without all the work.” And they’ve been doing it for more than 40 years, building an experienced, knowledgeable staff both in the U.S. and Europe. What Makes Them Stand Out? As its name suggests, Untours is different than a typical tour agency. It doesn’t offer guided tours or group tours, but it does offer unlimited pre-trip planning advice, orientation upon arrival at your European destination, a private apartment to stay in, and transportation while there. Who Travels With Them? Untours clients like the idea of being mostly on their own while traveling, but are looking for extra assistance in planning, getting oriented, and arranging for lodging and transport. Since the Untours method saves time and energy when traveling to an unfamiliar place, it’s especially popular with people of working age or those who don’t enjoy extensive research. Where Do They Operate? Untours operates in 24 European locations, including multiple cities, towns and villages in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Other locations are in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Holland, Ireland, the UK, and Greece. How Does it Work? You choose the European location of your dreams – it could be Alsace, France; Tuscany, Italy; London, England; Budapest, Hungary; Barcelona, Spain; Leiden, Holland; Nafplio, Greece; or a village in Switzerland, among others – and Untours will set you up. You can ask all the questions about your destination that you want, and you’ll also be given an Untours guidebook to the region. When you arrive, Untours’ local staff will fill you in on anything you want or need to know. They’ll transfer you from the airport to your private apartment, cottage, or farmhouse -- where you’ll stay for one to two weeks -- and also set you up with a rental car, rail pass, or mass-transit pass, depending on your location. Otherwise, you’re entirely on your own to do what you want. Why Travel With Them? Untours offers an unusual service that strikes a balance between a guided tour and independent travel. Of course, you can put together your own group of friends or family if you don’t want to travel strictly on your own. You can also combine Untours (they’ll provide transfers between regions) if you want a longer trip, or opt for customized itineraries and luxury-level properties. You can even choose to just book one of their properties and dispense with the other planning and orientation.

I went on the Grand Tour of Ireland and if I could give this trip 20 stars I would! It was my first trip with EF and definitely not my last! I was nervous at first but those fears went away once I met my Tour group and my travel guide. The experiences I had were amazing and I met friends that I'll have for a lifetime. We all had so much fun and our tour guide made each day exciting. We had Shane Creegan as our Tour guide and he was hands down one of the best people I met, he has such a passion for the country and is incredibly knowledgeable, I learned so much from him and he made everyday more fun and exciting. I would definitely recommend this Tour to everyone, and if I can give you a piece of advice is just go for it, you definitely won't regret it!!!

We had a wonderful time. Though we didn't drive too far, mostly due to the short October days, we did drive up the Fife coast to St Andrews and to Loch Katrine to cruise on the Sir Walter Scott. We used the train to Edinburgh and Glasgow as id was inexpensive and very convenient. Fun to be in a country that still has real rail service! Enjoyed the food, both old style and new. Only downside was that some historic venues had already closed for the season. We loved the friendliness of the people. The pride they have in their heritage. Their commitment to the environment. They live amidst ancient history, for which they have deep pride, but they are among the most modern-thinking people on the planet.

My husband and I just returned from our first trip with smarTours to Ireland. Our tour guide and driver was Paul Kealy. We had such a wonderful experience and it was because of Paul. He is very knowledgeable, he makes the history of the country come alive, his witticism ( My husband and I are smiling as we write this) is infectious, and most of all his care and concern for all of us was always at the forefront He is truly the best guide we have ever had and we hope you know how valuable he is to your organization. We were very pleased with the hotels and in particular their locations. I could go on and on. If all your other tours and tour guides are as good as this trip, we are hooked.
