Travel Style Travel Style Relaxed A lot of free time, with very few inclusions. Ideal for independent and/or low-key travelers and cruisers.
Full on For those looking to maximize their sight seeing time. You thrive on a packed day’s schedule from 8 am to 6pm, with some (but limited) free time. Most activities and meals included.
Mixed You will have solid amounts of both free time and structured time with some activities and meals included.

Trip Type Trip Type Group Tour Groups are between 25-60 people, typically ~30-40. Usually there will be many opportunities to split off and enjoy meals and excursions in smaller groups. This is the most economical way to travel, saving up to 40% versus booking the same itinerary yourself.
Small Group Tour Small groups are usually defined as between 10 and 24 travelers, often less. If you're the kind of person who enjoys more intimate experiences and personal service this is a good choice. All else being equal you will pay a premium for this style vs a larger group tour.
River Cruise These vessels are smaller than most ocean cruisers, limiting which amenties are available. Passenger counts can vary. One of the biggest advantages of a river cruise is the ability to dock at smaller ports and local villages.
Small Ship Cruise Small ship cruises usually have a max passenger count of 500. The primary purpose of these trips is to spend time off the vessel in local ports (e.g. Mediterranean) or experiencing nature (e.g Galapagos or Antarctica). Cabins can vary from budget to luxury.
Private Guided Private tours give you the undivided attention of a guide, and often involve special access to sites and unique experiences not available to larger groups. This is a great option for families, couples, and small friend groups. Expect to pay a bit more for the extra service.
Self Guided / Independent Tour A travel company plans your itinerary and arranges all the logistics including lodging, local activities, and transportantion. You have the flexibility of a solo trip while still getting the convience and time savings of expert planning. Get 90% of the benefits of a tour, without a guide.
Vacation / Holiday Package Similar to a self guided tour, this usually involves a home base, such as a hotel or resort, with packaged activities and day tours as a part of the stay.
Large Ship Cruise This is the "floating city" experience, with multiple ways to enjoy your vacation aboard the ship as much as on land. Ships are multiple floors, provide several activities, culinary, and shopping options. They often make fewer stops and have less time available for shore excursions.

Itinerary Focus

Lodging Level Lodging Level Camping Typically involves most nights sleeping in tents (sometimes permanent tented sites) or in rustic cabins and lodges.
Basic - 2 star You'll stay in no-frills, but clean and comfortable, hotels or guesthouses. A 'Basic' trip might also involve a few nights of camping.
Value - 3 star Mid-range budget with accommodations ranging from comfortable lodges, guesthouses, and homestays to three star hotels.
Premium - 4 star 3 to 4 star western hotel equivalents. While not all lodging will be 'luxury' they will be quite comfortable by western standards.
Luxury - 5 star The highest level of comfort and service. All accomodations are in four or five star hotels, boutique lodges or high-end homestays.

After a fair amount of research into which trip/company to select, I opted
for this one. I opted for this trip for a few reasons - I'd previously done
another excellent trip with Exodus, only 1 overnight train (just enough!),
the itinerary sounded fascinating with some different places included to
other similar tours. I was extremely pleased with my choice - an adventure
from start to finish, amazing places, loads learned, a fabulous group and a
brilliant tour leader.
So many to mention - a true sensory experience. Varanasi was a huge
highlight - people watching, the Ganges, the Ghats and the various ceremonies
we saw - including beautiful weddings. The mountain scenery in Nepal was
breathtaking - including the drives to get to Pokhara and Kathmandu, the
Pokhara paragliding experience and Everest flight from Kathmandu. The
Pashupatinath complex and Bodnath temple in Kathmandu. Learning about the
Hindu and Buddhist history, beliefs and traditions was fascinating (including
the Bodhgaya stay and day trips). Finally, our 13 strong group and Jatin were
very special people to share this experience and adventure with.

Jatin was absolutely brilliant - this would have been a tough and complex
trip to manage and Jatin worked tirelessly to make sure everything came
together, that we were all safe and well, and that we had a brilliant time.
Whether someone needed meds, first aid, money, recovery of a
misplaced/lost/left-behind item, souvenirs ... Jatin was always on hand and
happy to help (he even rolled his sleeves up to help fix the bus!). Jatin's
knowledge and experience was superb, he cared and his happy nature made us
smile. A huge credit to Exodus.

Bring plenty of hand sanitiser (and use it regularly!), drink loads of water,
bring an open-mind and be prepared to go with the flow. This is a really
fun adventure trip - there are some early morning starts (for activities or
to travel), rough and bumpy roads, long days, squat toilets and often
facilities which might not meet our usual standards - go with it, it's really
worth it. The long travel days weren't so bad as the views and outside life
was fascinating to watch.

Try and carry some snacks to keep the energy levels going - Jatin and the
drivers often stopped at street vendors to get us fruit or other snacks
during the day. During the long journeys, we stopped every couple of hours
for a leg stretch, cuppa and a loo break. We were always told to shout if
anyone needed an earlier stop. We encountered an unscheduled 6 hr delay, due
to protests, on the morning train to Varanasi and many of us were very
grateful for saving some our breakfast box leftovers which kept us going.

The overnight train was an adventure. We made sure we had a good feed at
lunchtime and we stopped off at the shop for some snacks. I carried a
lightweight sleeping bag liner for the overnight train - I used it because I
carried it, but the bedding provided seemed clean enough to use without the
liner. However, it did get a little chilly during the night so the extra
layer was welcomed. One thing I wished I'd packed was some cards or small
games, but we made our own fun in the end.

US $ are very useful to carry - crisp and un-torn notes. Indian rupees can
be carried into and used in Nepal.

Don't overpack - hotel laundry facilities were cheap and good, and best used
on 2 night stays. I used the hotel laundry facilities in Bodhgaya and
Varanasi. Bodhgaya was slightly cheaper, but neither expensive at all.

Get over the cappuccino love! Mainly instant coffee all the way until Pokhara
- but the Masala Chai is a good substitute.

This is a superb trip for an India first-timer or someone wanting to get a
taster of Nepal and North India- It gives a taste of so much - people, ways
of life, forts, palaces, mountains, countryside, nature, temples, Hindu and
Buddhist insights/learning, trains, roads etc. The trip visits many UNESCO
world heritage sites. It requires a bit of stamina (for the travelling days
and early starts). Both India and Nepal are challenging and daunting
countries and this trip made the experience do-able, straighforward and easy.

It has been a fabulous trip! Could not ask for more. Fantastic group leader, Vinod Kumar. However, I am dissatisfied with the handling of my last day here in India. I was scheduled for a 4:30 AM flight out of Cochin but am having to pay for my last night here. If I had the choice I would have left the night before. I appreciate you reconsidering this situation. Again, this has been a spectacular trip!

This trip is not for the faint hearted and although it is classed as
'leisurely' there is a bit of walking in high temperature and lots of steps,
especially at the train stations. Most mornings were 05.30 start with many
hours transferring between places either by air con. mini bus or sleeper
train.
The hotels ranged from ok to wonderful. The sights were beautiful and
historically interesting. Our guide was excellent and very proud of his
country and his religion.
All the cities are traffic heavy specially with local tuk tuks, the noise is
deafening from all the horns hooting, it is very dusty and sometimes smelly.
Tuk tuk rides are exhilirating and frightening but glad we did it!
If you don't like curry (I tried really hard) food that is available in the
places the guide takes you to is limited but ok e.g. a few pasta and noodle
dishes. The only meat you will find is chicken, often still on the bone but
hidden in the rice and also mutton.
At times this was a hard trip but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
The part I had wanted to do the most was visit Varanasi. We went at sunrise
and sunset and the experience was magical and different both times. The
funeral pyres on the ghats was very moving as was the boat trip and the
evening ceremony that takes place at the edge of the Ganges every evening.
The sights and sounds will stay with me for ever.

The Taj Mahal is incredible and strangely familiar, again we went at sunrise.

On the last day in Delhi we took ourselves to the Sikh temple at the
suggestion of our guide and it was so welcoming and amazingly beautiful. Our
family group of 5 were given a tour by a sikh lady volunteer who took photos
and selfies as well as told us some of the history. Lovely memories.

Seeing a tiger on safari.

Everything in between.

Ronit our leader was exceptional. He was very knowledgeable and friendly.
He happily answered all of our questions and explained what we saw and the
history behind them very well. He looked after us when out and about and
gave us hints and tips of what to do and not to do when being approached by
people wanting to sell you something. There are a lot of street vendors at
the different sites.
I had 'Delhi belly' and he was very concerned and helpful.
Ronit was happy to tell us a liitle about himself and his life.

The overnight train is tough. The bunks are hard but you are given clean
sheets, pillow and blanket. The second time we put the folded blanket
underneath us to give a bit more thickness. We also took a small inflatable
pillow and used this as well. It can get cold in the air con. especially on
the side top bunk. It was better to be with other people from our party but
this wasn't possible on the first trip.
At one side of the carriage there are 2 squat toilets and on the other 1
squat and 1 more conventional. Take toilet paper and wipes and lots of hand
sanitiser. We took a bike chain as suggested but didn't feel the need to use
it.
The trip from Varanasi to Delhi is 12 hours and there is often delays. Our
train broke down in the middle of the night and our journey took 16 hours!
Change your money at the airport as although some hotels offer the service
the tight time schedule didn't allow for much free time.
Take diarrhoea tablets and sunscreen.
The dress code for women is more relaxed than described on the website unless
visiting temples or mosques etc.

Be prepared to see some upsetting things. Very poor people living on the
streets. Beggars knocking on the bus window. Disabled people struggling.
Lots and lots of cows absolutely everywhere. Lots of dogs in a poor
condition.
It can be very dusty you might like to take a mask.

The country is full of surprises and there is never a dull moment. Your
senses will be overloaded.
Go with an open mind. Dont be frightened to haggle but be kind as the
majority are trying to make a few rupees to make life more bearable. Smile
and say 'Namaste' and enjoy every minute.

...to describe or explain the wonderful experience and memories this tour
provides. The itinerary is arranged to provide Visits around the culture,
religion, history and wildlife of the country but the experience includes so
much more- noise, smell, bright colour, chaos, food- be open to everything
and you will not be disappointed . The tour is necessarily "full on" but the
sights and experiences outweigh the pace.
Whilst the Taj Mahal was an obvious highlight the additional activities
arranged by our Leader Nabin Gurung were the highlights specifically visiting
the children in a rural primary school as well as the sunset boat trip on the
Ganges to experience prayers at night- a vision which will be a life long
memory.

Nabin was so knowledgable teaching us many things, answering all our
questions at our beck and call no matter what time of day or night, no
request too big or small. He arranged additional activities instead of down
time to ensure we maximised our visit . It was clear he really cared about
our experience and his professional and super organised approach to
everything made the tour perfect. He was personable and got to know each of
the group and our sense of humour and needs personally. He made sure all of
our experiences were equal especially whilst viewing the tiger at rathembore.
Nabin was an excellent leader providing the highest level of customer
service.

Be prepared for an almost non stop tour but don't be put off by that - book

As a first timer to India, this trip provided a memorable experience of
colour, noise, marvellous historic architecture and lovely friendly people.
Plus a totally amazing sighting of a tiger.
Seeing a tiger in its natural habitat was beyond any experience had so far. A
close second was the magnificent Taj Mahal.

Mayank was outstanding. Calm, professional, friendly and always aware of all
our needs.

Be prepared for some very long road journeys. Arrange at least an extra day
for your own sight seeing in Delhi, at the end of the trip. The train back
from Varanasi can arrive very late, curtailing the chances of seeing much
before the flight home.
