What travelers are saying

"We spent two wonderful weeks touring several of the best destinations in Portugal & Spain with a group of 16 people. Our guide (Fredy) was from Spain and intimately familiar with the region, including its rich history, attractions, and food/beverages. The tour was well-paced using a combinations of private vehicles (small buses and cabs), trains, and an airplane ride as well as a fair amount of walking to get around these two beautiful countries. We extended our stay in Lisbon to see more attractions and took a side trip to Fatima, Obidos, and Nazare that was also excellent. Would have liked to have a bit more time in a couple of the cities, but we'll just have to plan another trip!"

What travelers are saying

"We've taken over 10 group tours using Cosmos and Gate1. This trip last month, 9000 was not very good. -During booking, incorrect information was given about airport-hotel transfers -The whispers (listening devices) didn't work from the get-go, so no whispers were used during the 13 day trip. - Porters are no longer hired to bring your luggage to and from your room. (Very elderly had to handle their own luggage. Our friends had to help many of them.) -A few days into the trip one couple left. At the end of the trip we found out they had covid. Cosmos did not let us know; a few people weren't feeling well and two of our friends then tested positive. -One hotel was awful and not even up to "budget" standards -Many of the stops had castles, churches... but were not included, so be sure to count that in when pricing.  don't plan to use Cosmos ever again. Gate1 is the best in my opinion. When my husband's passport was stolen, they assigned someone to go with him to the embassy, translate, etc...It was above and beyond what we expected  "

What travelers are saying

"Sad to see a once good tour company stumble and fall into mediocrity. That’s Tauck post-Covid. My May 2023 tour of Normandy, Brittany and the Loire Valley was done on the cheap by Tauck, yet cost me thousands of dollars extra as a solo traveler on a special small-group tour.

5-star hotels switched to 3 and 4 (without any compensation or explanation)… many more meals “on your own”… lots of “self-guided” tours of museums and chateaux and castles we knew nothing about… airline quality “rubber chicken” dinners, not in hotel restaurants, but in sad and isolated business convention spaces… poorly-trained newer Tour Directors (like the one on this tour) with limited experience traveling outside her tiny Canadian village or dealing with people from diverse backgrounds. She even confessed that this was a second gig job that took her away from her own business back home! You get what Tauck pays for, but unfortunately, not what YOU pay for.

Speaking to a “Guest Relations” agent was comically pointless. She tried to make everything my fault, which I now understand is par for the course with the “new” post-Covid Tauck. Please reconsider spending huge amounts of your hard-earned money on a tour company that has lost its way and no longer delivers."

Yellowstone National Park

Highlights

  • The world's first national park inspires awe any time of the year
  • as Yellowstone winter tours would attest. But as you'll discover visiting the national park during the winter – when bison
  • elk
  • wolves and bighorn sheep wander across snow-covered valleys
  • and Yellowstone's amazing geologic features are even more spectacular in the frigid air – is a whole other... and perhaps other-worldly... experience.Exploring by snowcoach

Yellowstone National Park Tour Selection Trips

  •  Yellowstone National Park spans nearly 3,500 square miles of land. Because of its vast size, it’s best to choose a tour that lasts at least three or four days so you can make sure to see all the top attractions.
  • The park is busiest in the summer months. To avoid the crowds, pick travel dates for late spring or early fall.
  • When booking a tour, you’ll want to know where to stay in Yellowstone. There are a few different lodging options at the park: cabins, hotel style and camping. Depending on your style of travel, make sure to find a tour that accommodates your lodging preferences.

What to Wear for Yellowstone Weather

Yellowstone in Summer

During Yellowstone summer tours, you should bring comfortable outdoor clothing that you can easily layer and remove. Because Yellowstone National Park sits a mile above sea level on average, you should expect cold nights, no matter the season. Be sure to bring a warm jacket or a fleece, and a rain jacket -- Yellowstone weather can be unpredictable!

If you plan to swim in one of the park's countless rivers, hot springs, or go whitewater rafting, consider bringing water shoes. The rivers are rocky and can be uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. Otherwise, make sure to bring comfortable, closed-toe shoes for any hiking you may do.

Yellowstone in Winter

If you are traveling to Yellowstone in the winter, anticipate severe and colder weather. This means bringing a heavy waterproof jacket and wearing wool or other insulated clothing underneath. If you are planning to do any snow sports, dress appropriately and wear synthetic, fast-drying material as your first layer. This way, if you sweat, the clothing will dry quickly and you will stay warm.

Because of the reflective qualities of the snow, also bring a pair of sunglasses. Make sure to bring along a set of gloves and a hat too.

What to Bring for Yellowstone Tours

On a Yellowstone tour, it’s better to be prepared. Make sure to pack a good water bottle, binoculars, a small day backpack if you are hiking, and of course, your camera!  If you plan on leaving the main tourist areas in the park, or camp overnight, it’s also recommended that you bring a first aid kit and carry bear spray.

Recreation

Yellowstone has a variety of recreational activities. Some of the most popular include:

More than Meets the Eye

While the most obvious attractions of Yellowstone are physical, the park also has a rich and fascinating history. One of the benefits of taking a group Yellowstone tour is that your guide will be able to tell you, in detail, about the park. If you are interested in learning about the Native American tribes who battled and conducted pow wows in and around the National Park, consider taking a culture-based trip. Go see the Crazy Horse Memorial, tour a Native American art exposition, and even meet local tribe members.

Guided Yellowstone tours often go outside the park to explore the history of the region. A historical tour will guarantee you the opportunity to learn about it. For example, visit old Wild West towns and learn about important figures like Buffalo Bill and Calamity Jane, or take a short drive to see the infamous Mount Rushmore.

How safe is Yellowstone?

Many visitors to Yellowstone are alarmed when they first read that bear spray is recommended within the park. Despite this recommendation, the probability of a bear attack is very low -- many more visitors have been injured trying to get close to the geysers than by all interactions with wildlife combined!

With that being said, Yellowstone is an uncontrolled environment. In order to remain safe, keep to your common sense, properly dispose of all of your garbage (especially if camping), and do not feed or harass the animals.
