Who Will Enjoy a Joshua Tree National Park Tour

Joshua Tree National Park.

Joshua Tree National Park is a great destination for many different types of travelers. The only stipulation is that the traveler enjoys nature and is eager to explore and experience it. With so many great outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, trekking, horseback riding and backpacking, Joshua Tree is a great destination for nature lovers as well as adventure travelers. Don’t worry if you’ve never tried these activities before. There’s easier options for beginners and you can even choose to have a guide out there helping you along the way.

Many styles are also perfect for this destination. Solo, private guided, custom or group guided - this destination is well suited for them all. If you’re an experienced outdoor adventurer and prefer to explore on your own, a solo trip is for you. If you prefer to meet new people and explore nature with like minded travelers, group guided tours are for you. If you want a guide showing you the way but want them dedicated only to you then private guided is for you.

Joshua Tree Weather

Travelers can expect hot summers and cold winters where temperatures usually range from 35 to 99 degrees Fahrenheit . Summer months last from June to September with the hottest temperatures appearing in July. The colder, winter months range from November to February with December being the coldest month. All year the park is dry with very little rain.

The best time to visit Joshua Tree National Park is from March to May or October to November. These times yield more comfortable temperatures without having to sacrifice any of the outdoor activities.

Joshua Tree Camping

Camping in Joshua Tree National Park.

Camping is a very popular activity at Joshua Tree which means it may be difficult to find an open campsite during holidays or springtime. However, to ensure you get a spot you can either reserve a spot or visit during the off season months from June to September.

There’s five different campground areas. Black Rock and Cottonwood have water, flushing toilets, tables and fire grates. These campgrounds are perfect for a camping experience with a little more luxury. Indian Cove, Jumbo Rocks and Ryan have pit toilets, tables and fire grates but no water. These campgrounds are perfect for the traveler who enjoys “roughing it” for a few days.

Joshua Tree Music Festival

Held in July, the Joshua Tree Music Festival is focused on creativity, community empowerment, arts and education. This event is family friendly but perfect for travelers of all ages. The music ranges many genres from electro to soul. While you won’t see famous musicians on the stage, these dedicated artists are well worth the visit. You’ll listen to unique, creative music that will surely inspire.

During this four day event there are also many workshops. These range from yoga to music to visual arts. There’s also many activities specifically for children in what they call Kidsville.

Joshue Tree Hikes

Hiking in Joshua Tree National Park.

There’s a hiking experience for every level of traveler. Short walks and Nature trails are perfect for beginning hikers, families and some even have wheelchair access. Moderate hikes are a bit more challenging and may not be the best experience during the hot summer months. These trails are better suited for those with some experience hiking. Challenging hikes are the hardest trails at Joshua Tree. You should not attempt these if you are beginners or if it is too hot outside as there is risk of high sun exposure and dehydration. These are best suited for experienced and highly athletic travelers.

No matter which trail you feel is best for your abilities, be sure to pack the right essentials to ensure your safety. These include items such as water, food, sun protection, first aid kit and a compass or map. If you are hiking in the colder months be sure to bring the right foot wear and extra layers.
