Horrible disgusting company

Volcano Adventure – Antigua to San José

1.0 June 2017 Recommend: No
My tour guide organized a robbery where all my money and passport were stolen and then I was ditched for more than a month alone with nom money or documents in Honduras. G Adventures says "it's not their fault. No refund, no compensation. I wrote a bad review and was blocked. So immature. Disgusted. Read more

Providing less at more cost

G Adventures Company Reviews

3.0 May 2017 Recommend: No
The requirement for emergency medical and travel insurance, hidden in the fine print to maximize limited choice. Is the prime example. I am not aware of any other tour company requiring such proof of insurance. FMCA provides emergency medical evacuation as a part of basic membership with fewer exclusions at 27 cents per membership. Compare that to the G Adventures plan. And despite the threat of denying attending the trip I have never had a CEO request the information.

Cutting corners with lodging (cheap digs with reduced perks and increased prices). Hotels normally with free WIFI - except for G Adventures. Making most activities and sites optional, to keep costs out of the advertised price.. Very few meals included to keep true costs out of the advertised price. Making you haul your own bags and using public transportation or cramped "private vehicles" – you become an unpaid employee. All are marketing techniques to keep costs out of advertised prices. They are, like the credit card provides, masters of sneaky traps for the unwary consumer.

Compare with mainline tour companies and you will find G Adventures an expert at providing less for more!

This trip was everything I hoped it would be and more

Costa Rica Quest

5.0 April 2017 Recommend: Yes
This trip was everything I hoped it would be and more. Costa Rica is a gorgeous country and I'm so grateful that I got to experience the pura vida lifestyle, even if it was only for 9 too short days. Ronny, our CEO, got to know each of us individually and made recommendations based on our interests. He was a pleasure to have as part of our group and added so much value to our experience. Ronny was fun and truly ensured that we had the best experience imaginable. He was helpful and accommodating whenever we needed him and was always looking out for our safety. The optional activities that were recommended were all well worth the money and the customer service was excellent. Our drivers and transportation were excellent as well and all of the accommodations were clean and comfortable. I have been home for less than 48 hours and have already recommended this trip to family and friends. Read more

This was my third trip to Africa (second with G Adventures), and it pretty much topped the list

Safari in Kenya & Tanzania

5.0 April 2017 Recommend: Yes
This was my third trip to Africa (second with G Adventures), and it pretty much topped the list. I went to see animals, and boy did I ever see animals!!! Kenya and Tanzania outdo South Africa by a long shot as far as wildlife goes. The Masai Mara, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater were teeming with practically every African animal you can think of .... and were they ever active! And the hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti was a once-in-a-lifetime experience --- worth every penny!! Congratulations to G for not only coming up with a fascinating itinerary, excellent accommodations, and knowledgeable CEOs and drivers, but for their support of local projects in most of the countries they work in. Lead with Service, Embrace the Bizarre (can you say 'ostrich courtship'--), and Do the Right Thing .... that's my memory of Kenya and Tanzania. Read more

Discover Southeast Asia

5.0 April 2017 Recommend: Yes
When I was researching potential tours of Southeast Asia, I was looking for Thailand (Bangkok and Chiang Mai specifically) and Cambodia (Siem Reap/Angkor Wat specifically). The other destinations on this tour were just added bonuses. I am so happy that I chose this tour; it took me to places that I have never gone to -- like Luang Prabang which I had never heard of -- even though I consider myself to be a savvy traveler. I am happy that I went to Vietnam to learn about that country's perspective on history and to marvel at the beauty of Halong Bay. This particular tour offered the right mix of culture, history, escorted adventure, and individual discovery. It seemed to appeal to everyone in our group of ten travelers who ranged in age from their 20s to their 60s. Read more

Stride Take

Specializing in small-group, multi-day adventure tours and expeditions, Toronto-based G Adventures has been a pioneer in the field since 1990. Founded by entrepreneur Bruce Poon Tip after a backpacking trip to Asia, the company fosters sustainable and environmentally sound tourism practices -- giving back to the communities they visit -- and considers its business “changing people’s lives,” not just offering a vacation. It’s since grown to become the world’s largest independent adventure travel company, with more than 1,350 employees, many of them professionally trained guides.

What Makes Them Stand Out?

G Adventures strives to create unique experiences for its travelers that start even before the trip itself. The company provides trip inspiration through their Looptail blog and you can connect with fellow travelers via the ‘Departure Lounge’, which is part of G’s ‘Watering Hole’ travel forum. Once on your trip, you will meet your ‘CEO’ or ‘Chief Experience Officer’ who is “responsible for enriching your journey, offering local insight, and pursuing great experiences as they happen.” Most groups average around 12 travelers, with a maximum of 16 on most trips.

Who Travels With Them?

While its target market has traditionally been younger travelers, G Adventures now offers a broad range of trips that can appeal to adventurous-minded, culturally curious people of any age. Groups are geographically diverse, with a higher proportion of North Americans than some other operators.

Where Do They Operate?

You can find G Adventures trips in most parts of the globe, including 32 countries in Europe, 25 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, 21 countries in Asia, 10 countries in South America, 12 countries in Central America and the Caribbean, five countries in North Africa and the Mideast, plus the U.S., and Canada. A number of destinations are well off the beaten track, from Sao Tome and Principe in West Africa to Borneo in east Asia to the Maldives in the Indian Ocean and both polar regions.

How Does it Work?

Pricing is competitive (cheaper), largely by using “grassroots” approaches: local transport and a mix of privately-owned accommodations, perhaps including homestays and camping. Efforts are made to focus on authenticity with both culinary choices (locally-owned restaurants) as well as transportation methods. G Adventures truly offers something for everyone, with trip styles such as Comfort, Active, Rail, and YOLO (You Only Live Once - for 18-39’s).

Why Travel With Them?

G Adventures is a good choice if you are looking for an authentic, if not luxury, guided travel experience. Some features especially stand out. Lifetime Deposits allow passengers who have to postpone a trip the chance to use their initial deposit at a later date and at no extra charge. Departures are guaranteed once you’ve paid (barring significant weather or safety issues). And they don’t charge single supplements. In short, G Adventures wants you out there with them.

From G Adventures

G Adventures is an adventure travel pioneer offering the planet's most awe-inspiring selection of affordable small-group tours, safaris and expeditions. Our award-winning trips embrace authentic accommodation, exotic cuisine and local transport to put travellers on a first-name basis with the planet’s people, cultures, landscapes and wildlife.

Adventure travel is more than a vacation. It’s a chance to get to know your world better by putting yourself on a first-name basis with the people, places, and things that make it worth exploring. This is your planet. Come and get it.

All G Adventures tours share a common love of adventure, but life-altering experiences come in a variety of flavors. Here are some of the Travel Styles we offer:

"Comfort": “Adventure travel” doesn’t have to mean “roughing it.” Comfort tours offer the genuine experiences you want with more extras, frills, and upgrades.

"Classic": An unbeatable mix of uncommon experiences, insider access, cultural contact, and all the must-sees and -dos, Classic is adventure perfected.

"Active": Why just see the world when you could bike, hike, kayak, and multi-sport it? Why, indeed. Active tours keep travellers who like to move on the move.

"Yolo": You’re only young once. Make the most of it with Yolo tours, fun-filled and fast-moving adventures designed just for travellers aged 18 to 39.

"Family": Just because you settled down and had kids doesn’t mean your adventuring days are through. Family makes our big planet small enough for all.

"Local LIving": Want to get under the skin of some of the most gorgeous and out-there places? Local Living tours grant access that even locals don't have.

"Private Groups": Got a group of eight or more and want to keep the fun to yourselves? Try a Private Group tour. You pick the who and where, we’ll handle the what.

No matter what kind of traveller you are, we’ve got a tour (or a dozen) that’ll fit you just right.
