Memories: mint tea, exquisite ceramics, signs in Arabic and Berber, being sand-blasted by the desert wind at night, getting lost in the Marrakesh Souk (who doesn’t), locals everywhere extremely helpful, in halting Arabic/French. Moroccan meals are huge. Beware of the set menu. Three courses even once a day may be too much. We often chose single items ‘a la carte’, sometimes to the chagrin of the restauranteur. Moroccan soup, tagines and even pizza came in various interpretations but always good. ‘Pastilla’, a tasty chicken pie made with various types of pastry was sometimes dusted with icing sugar and cinnamon. Delicious. Our guide, Ahmed, was informative, well organised, and considerate. Driver, Said, was careful, especially on some of the precipitous mountain bends. I was a bit disappointed with the movie sets at Aït Ben Haddou. I thought at the very least we would have been shown clips from the famous films that used the sets. (We were, but only on the local guide’s mobile phone!). A most memorable tour. I have spent time in Indonesia, another Muslim country. Morocco is totally different. I strongly recommend it."
