Description Come see one of baseball’s most beloved teams in Fort Myers, where you’ll attend games, speak with pros and delve into sports history as you learn about the former Negro League.
Itinerary: Spring Training Baseball with the Boston Red Sox

Day 1
Check-in, Registration, Orientation, Welcome Dinner
Fort Myers, FL D Hilton Garden Inn Fort Myers
Activity note: Hotel check-in from 3:00 p.m.

Afternoon: Program Registration: After you have your room assignment, come over to the Road Scholar table in the hotel lobby to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing your name-tag, up-to-date schedule that reflects any last-minute changes, and other important information. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in. Orientation: The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the program theme, the up-to-date Daily Schedule and any changes, discuss safety guidelines, emergency procedures including contact numbers for key staff, roles and responsibilities, and answer any questions you may have. Because our programs are planned far in advance, game schedules were not available at the time of publication. They will be published on our website as soon as announced and will be included in preparatory materials sent following enrollment. We have set aside some free time in the schedule for your personal independent exploration. Please be aware that program activities, schedules, and personnel may need to change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: At the hotel, we will enjoy a tasty and nutritious catered meal featuring two entrees, plus coffee (regular/decaf), tea (iced/hot) and water.

Evening: Spend time becoming better acquainted with participants and program staff. The rest of the evening is yours to continue making new friends or just to relax and prepare for the full day of activity ahead.

Day 2
Baseball Spring Training, Afternoon Game

Activity note: Walk up to 1 mile to the stadium and climb stairs.

Breakfast: In the hotel breakfast area, enjoy a variety of hot items including breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit, oatmeal, and more, plus coffee (regular/decaf), tea, and a variety of juices.

Morning: In our private meeting room at the hotel, learn more about spring training baseball. A baseball tradition, spring training typically lasts for six weeks from mid February to just before Opening Day in early April. This series of practices and exhibition games give fans a sneak peek into the season while drawing them to the warmer locations where training occurs.

Lunch: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like at the stadium.

Afternoon: From the hotel, we will board the bus and head to the stadium. GAME 1: Experience a spring training baseball to increase your knowledge of the sport. After the game, we will board the bus and return to the hotel.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: Enjoy a baseball themed DVD with your fellow baseball enthusiasts.

Day 3
Morning Presentations Spring Training Game

Activity note: Walk up to 1 mile to the stadium and climb stairs.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: In our private meeting room, our instructor will introduce us to the history of the Negro League. Before Jackie Robinson played professional baseball, black athletes played in their own, separate leagues. From the early 1880’s, there were more than 200 all-black teams spread throughout the country. At its peak in the 1920’s, three separate negro leagues were established in the Northeast, the Southeast, and the Midwest.

Lunch: On your own to enjoy what you like at the stadium.

Afternoon: GAME 2: Attend our second spring training game.

Dinner: On your own to enjoy what you like in Ft Myers.

Evening: At leisure.

Day 4
Morning or Evening Presentation, Spring Training Game

Activity note: Ride up to 2 hours. Walk up to 1 mile to the stadium and climb stairs.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: From the hotel, we will travel via bus to see a Red Sox game in the afternoon.

Lunch: On your own to enjoy what you like at the stadium.

Afternoon: GAME 3: Attend our third spring training game as we watch the Boston Red Sox play. At the end of the game, we will board the bus and return to Ft. Myers.

Dinner: On your own to enjoy what you like.

Evening: Enjoy an evening baseball lecture with our instructor.

Day 5
Morning Presentation, Spring Training Game

Activity note: Walk up to 1 mile to the stadium and climb stairs.

Breakfast: At the hotel.

Morning: At the hotel, a sports announcer from the Boston Red Sox will share the excitement from his career. We will board the motorcoach and transfer to the stadium.

Lunch: On your own at the stadium or a nearby restaurant.

Afternoon: GAME 4: Attend our fourth spring training game.

Dinner: At the hotel.

Evening: In our private meeting room at the hotel the group leader will offer a baseball trivia quiz and put your new knowledge to the test.

Day 6
Program Concludes

Activity note: Hotel check-out by 12:00 Noon.

Breakfast: At the hotel.
